Release dates are targets, you need them but you can't release a product that doesn't conform to normal quality standards, that's counterproductive for everyone. It hurts the company because their reputation is damaged and it hurts the consumer because they get frustrated and may not even be able to use the module. I work in QA (not for Heatblur), we can't release if we have high priority bugs (show stoppers) I'd rather them (Heatblur) get it right and have everything they said they would sort of working than stumble around with a buggy module. IF they just haven't finished the dev and miss the release date "end of winter" that's just poor planning... ;)

Wow. What an exciting thread.

I would suppose that from the HB dev comments on here, getting my loupe out and reading between the lines....

HB can no longer do anything to speed up the process, other than continue to squash bugs, my theory being that the F14 has been entered into ED's QA process with a list of known issues yet to be addressed and in the process of being worked on.

QA will communicate to HB which are the up gripes and which are the down gripes that ED are prepared to accept in early release in a more focused manner than any prior communications.

These communications take time to research, write and be acted upon.

ED also will have to ensure seamless integration with all aspects of the DCS world engine, including all servers, missions, campaigns, terrains and even stuff that is in development.

Then there is testing for the proposed integration of Vulkan in ED's backroom. Then the proposed VR improvements.. and shaders, who knows, they may even be looking into RTX and have to ensure the cat will work with that, and if not why. New weather effects new ATC. Stuff that even HB are not aware of.

Then, not forgetting of course, to build an uploader tool to download it.

Then there may be key staff off sick.... the list of snags and holdups are endless.

Loads of stuff at ED's end that HB have no direct control over and issues that very few on here have any inkling of.

If it's out by March 20th. HB kept the faith. If it is not, then the pitchforks will come out, but again, the delay may not be at HB's end.

I doubt I will get it on March 20th because I gave up on OB out of frustration and went to Release Version. My Cat will likely be in April, but then I can hardly blame HB for that. My choice to dump OB.

I also doubt anyone else will see it more than a few days earlier than the deadline either.

That's my take.

totally agree i still think its months off
Mhen!

I do not think release is months away.

I am confident ED and HB would will straighten out whatever integration snag is left before 21th of March.

I am sure Ed was put in the loop on some of these integration issues all along. My 2 cents

My guess is that ED is busy with the Mig-19 release wich might come this week. And after that the F-14 is the next in queue.

(No hate to Razbam! Just my speculation)

You'd think Wags would want to be around for a launch as exciting as the F-14 (he said he's out this week), plus HB basically guaranteed that there would be no F-14 in February. So I wouldn't get your hopes up. It may look nice in Jabbers' vids, but that's the point of them to get you hyped! There are still a LOT of bugs for HB to iron out in the 14. I don't think F-14 will coincide with with typical patch schedule, either, but that's purely my conjecture.

Source for this?

Cobra is constantly telling us to expect bugs in EA. Also there were a few bugs on display in Jabbers' latest stream. Almost all of them involved jester. There was also a collision detection glitch during his refueling attempts

Ok, but this doesn't constitute for 'A LOT' of bugs as you stated. We don't know that at all. All we know for sure is, there are some. I'm sure there are many, but A LOT, doubtful.

This thread (and pretty much all of the other release date threads) are a prime example of why devs are loathe to give firm release dates.

Well, the F-14 is in ED’s hands now so even if it’s not bug free it seems to be good enough for EA :)

Still less buggy and more completed than the Hornet. Not trying to be sarcastic or anything, but it is the truth as of right now.

I have waited plenty for games in the past, 5 years for God of War, 9 months for Fallout. Jesus, I really hope none of you are Square Enix fans cause those crazies can't hit an original release date to save their lives. Here is the thing though.....those were GAMES, not simulations. I totally get people being upset about not getting the Tomcat yet, but some of these posts....... just WOW. I'm new to DCS so I may not know all the details of past module releases. That being said, HB still has almost a month to deliver (if ED gives the green light). I want the best product that these guys can give us upon release, if that means I wait till 21 March, then I wait till 21 March. That being said I understand that game design and simulation functionality are not things easily done or finished fast.

You can called me a fan boy or what not, makes no difference to me. I have invested hundreds of dollars and many hours into DCS, as have many, many of you. I think that kind of makes us all fan boys (or girls) and while we SHOULD demand that best, we have to understand that GETTING the best takes time. Often more then we as users and the devs would like.

Do your thing HeatBlur, I'll be waiting and reading up.

Looks like it was a good time to finally get that pre-order in.

Hype levels are off the scale, at this moment in time I'm just excited to fly it, spend time looking around the cockpit. Watching US Navy operations on VHS videos was what I grew up with so to finally get the chance to get stuck into the Tomcat soon is amazing.

Absolutely incredible work!
