Has there been any previous talk about the African campaign during WW2 and a map? This area of the war is so underrated and overlooked in flight sims. A lot of WW2 aviation history happened here. This area of operations would provide an outstanding map for the WW2 buffs and a good period to introduce some of the more less spoken about aircraft. Just curious if there has been talk about it.

I’ve never seen any mention of it.

For all that you could just use more desolate areas of NTTR.

This would be awesome. And aircraft that fit the map, too!

If they did a map covering 1943, they could hit the last few battle of Africa and the invasion of Italy all on one map. This would give a well rounded opportunity to cover several major battles on top of many different aircraft.

It would all historically coincide with the map so players could either create and battle North Africa or set it up for the invasion of Italy and battles in the Med.

This idea needs some traction. This must happen (with accurate aircraft) in DCS! I'd pay a lot for an accurate theater/aircraft map of part of the North Africab campaign.

Commenting to bump this through the forums. This is a great goal for DCS WWII, down the road. Map, planes and all

Interesting

Then... maybe...

Employ full-time developer/artist and deal with ED as a 3rd party?

You said you would pay a lot, so I thought maybe doing it as a 3rd party would move these forward. Thinking you don't know how to do it yourself, I suggested getting a person do it.

Oh. That's way beyond my abilities right now, though. Cool idea though

the problem is that you need an SDK for terrain, and ED gives this only to 3th parties, imagine how many maps we could do if the sdk was available to everyone...

I wish it was available for everyone

No, if you present a serious project to ED to build a map (with a team, etc).

A lot of Value can be had with a map as described in this thread.

WWII battles are a given. However model the Coral Sea or CV America and you can recreate the 1986 Regan vs Qaddafi raid. If the Map is east enough you could almost have enough map for the Bosnian War.

but only if the map will be payware i suppose, nothing for free

the thing is that to present a "seriouse proyect" to ED requires a lot of interdisciplinary abilities, so you need a team.

If they would offer the SDK and a library of objects already made, we could have a lot more maps. I have done several Il-2 maps, back in the day but I lack the 3D expertise to create my own objects. Still, right now there are a plethora of objects that would aloud the creation of lots of maps without specific landmarks...

I would be more than willing to do a Chile-Argentina (Tierra del Fuego) map, that really doesn't have any specific distinguishable landmark, nor big cities... Also I believe that the Kola Peninsula does not have any specific landmark or object, and it could be populated with Caucasus maps objects. An exception may be if Airbases, (runways and tarmacs) are one big 3D object...

Maybe also a comprehensive tutorial or guide on how to make maps, would help use better determine if we have or what abilities are needed to create a Map...

Also i seem to recall that Maps were not going to be so strict regarding quality control, and that i was going to be a much wider modder base WITH SDK and all...I would love to know what changed EDs mind about that.

Maybe too many low quality maps would affect purchases of official maps?
