  1. So the past 2 Weeks I have been doing nothing other than AAR in the A10 F15E and F16 with the KC135. FINALLY I FINALLY!! can refuel and top off the tanks in the A10 and F15! Still Working on the 16. I use VR, an HP G2. In the F15E and F16 you need a good sight picture of your position under the KC135 as well as paying attention to the lights on the belly of the aircraft. I can see the Height indicator in VR, its faint but readable. Unfortunately the indicator for forward and aft positions cannot be seen clearly at all. Fortunately I can position the F15 in the correct spot through trial and error but the whole process would be easier if those lights were brighter. I tend to disconnect because I start drifting aft, if I could see I could do better. With out the proper indicator lights I doubt I will be able to refuel at night. I don't think this is a bug just something that needs to be adjusted to make the hardest task in DCS a bit easier. Thanks
  2. Lets also hope that the world map comes out soon so there is a place to use these assets. However ED would need to unlock most of the buildings in Normandy so mission builders can place static building assets to create the towns and cities in Eastern Europe to begin to reflect the time period. I doubt anyone wants to wait for WWII maps stretching from SE Finland to Ukraine, all of Poland then over to Berlin. The Eastern front was HUGE! Also A Korea Map, set in 1952?
  3. Just want to put this out there for anyone listening. I love the Idea of upgrading the FC3 Aircraft to modern DCS standards. I learned the A10A way back in the LocOn days and hope that the A10A from FC3 will also be upgraded to full fidelity. With the Iraq and Afghanistan maps coming it would be nice to have an A10A for historical context. I would definitely pay for it if it became available. The Mig-29A is a much needed REDFOR plane. So is the Su27 but I will not get my hopes up.

  7. So I decided to drive around the map in Combined arms. Biggest thing I noticed were no roads in London or Paris, yes there was civilian traffic and all bit no roads just grass that was a funny shade of grey. Also the building textures in Paris and London were very low Quality they don't even look like the screen shots in the promos, the small towns like Baeoux look great and have roads. Is this an early access issue or is it my RTX 2070, all settings are high. For Combined Arms I lowered the distance objects loaded as to not tax the system so much to no avail. Overall from the air this map is great and very good performance. One wish-list Item I will ask for, is at sometime can we get several buildings and factory objects to be used as static objects or armed houses and buildings? The architecture in this map is very unique.
  8. Flew the Hornet on a tour of the New Normandy 2.0 (French side and Paris) in VR. Was seeing 35 to 50 FPS with the HP G2. Was running the Multi threaded version of DCS without steam. I love this map, purchased a new war-bird since they are on sale again. While flying over Paris I could see the buildings growing out of the landscape in the distance. Still a bit stuttery when looking straight down, maybe a new 4090 will help with that. System i9-9900K, 64 GB Ram, Geforce RTX 2070 Settings
  9. FYI Google maps will not show the coast of Normandy as it was in the 1940s. The coastline there changes constantly. For example on our tour of Utah beach the sand dunes are 20 feet higher then they were in WWII during the landing. However Omaha beach is for the most part the same. We stood by the rock portrayed in Saving Private Ryan, that the troops used for shelter in the water. DCS maps are not entirely correct anyway since buildings are placed relatively in their real world position. I have been to Vegas for work many times and lots off stuff is missing or not there.
  10. The detail on the buildings is amazing. Will some of the buildings and scenery be available as static objects in the mission editor?
  11. If you download VPC Airfield Equipment you can make the airbases as complicated as you want. DCS just needs to provide generic air strips, taxi ways and aprons for the planes. I figure a short runway and a large one for big aircraft like Tankers and large transports.
  12. First off I like this region since I have traveled allover Normandy, Visited Paris a few times as well as London. If new tech allows them to rapidly build these regions then would it be possible to create some modern buildings and current airbases and make a modern version of the area as well. this could show the feature of both WWII and modern versions of the same map. Most of France still looks like it did in WWII with the exception of new industry and the occasional Super market. Most of these can be Static objects the player drops in the Mission editor. (DCS cities are not exact copies of reality, there is artistic leeway) Besides the Current big International airports there are a few modern Airbases in southern England, around Paris and a Large AB in Évreux, for the modern stuff to easily fly in and out of. If they can pull that off then a German/Poland map with both eras can be made. May be Pricey but worth it.
  13. All these announcements, and the growing list of 60's era aircraft, F-4, A6, A7, F8 Crusader. Is there a Mig 17 being modeled? Also an Essex carrier.... I am waiting for the announcement of the Vietnam Map, its pretty much all that left. Meanwhile i will Que up the Creedence Clearwater Revival tracks.
  14. Based on the description I was able to draw this up. Check my work but it seems that the two maps will overlap. Maybe I am too far north? There was no mention of Jerusalem being included, however that could be in a low detail area or just not modeled like so many other maps, Bahrain in the Persian Gulf map for example. The image with Kola shows whats planned. Was there supposed to be an Iraq map? I know Afghanistan is supposed to come out but I don't know the boundary. Iraq would possibly intersect 2 maps. I wonder if there will ever be a way to seamlessly load one map to another in one game.
  15. I have finally figured out how to add 3D scenery from Google Earth to DCS. Its still rough around the edges but works. No drop in frame rates yet. The only problem is when yo fly really close to a skyscraper and the collision model calculations kick in almost crashes the game. I have a fix for that and will test it out. For the most part the scenery looks very good, some models exported are low quality, Paris France. So anywhere on Google Earth where the 3D models are available, can be imported to DCS. These can be individual buildings to city blocks. This would be great for adding new buildings to the static objects library, or building entire cities in the blank areas of the DCS maps. Flat areas are required for city block sized models. I would like to model more scenery for the static objects. I have been modeling buildings and plants for Architects and Engineers for years. I however have little to no experience with coding and creating the LUA files necessary to make the model s work in the game correctly. So that is the reeason for this post. I need help, I have gone as far as I can go. Currently I am using a very basic template for what you see here but I cannot code damage models, textures or control the amount of damage it takes to switch to the damage model. Is there a way to control explosion size, smoke, fire size and duration? I also have some non Google models I want to publish as well. Any Blender users out there? I have problem when deleting clutter from the Google models. When trimming geometry or deleting Clutter the model will not export to the EDM file. The error message is that the model is not a Mesh or a Quad and cannot be exported. Any ideas how to convert the model back to a mesh? This is key to isolating individual buildings.   16. Looks like all FC3 aircraft are now clickable with this mod. Cant wait to try it out. Still has limits but a big step forward. I want to use it on the A10A
  17. Umm... maybe it has been addressed but for me left Ctrl+E shuts the engines off and restarts.
  18. I think the skill is more about response time when shooting at an aircraft. Higher the skill the faster the SAM detects locks and shoots. I also found that when the TOR is set to a higher skill setting they tend to have the ability to soot down your Mavericks or HARM missiles.
  19. I would pay for an updated map, depending on what it is. The map is much larger in game then in the mission editor. In F10 view centered on aircraft I could see lat longs clear into Poland to the west. Istanbul and Northern Turkey, The western part of the Caspian sea. Armenia as mentioned in a prior post. Moldova to the west and the missing 800lb gorilla based on current events. Yea I know the reason, been here a long time, since the Loc On days. Still, this would be a pretty hot game right now if all that was there. I know if a complete map appeared tomorrow, it would be a "Shut-up and take my money!" moment. Que the Futurama meme.
  20. Thanks to miners these cards are FINALLY available but way overpriced. I am waiting for either the prices to drop or hold out for the RTX40XX series... At first it was a joke but I may be getting serious.
  21. Libya, Lots of F14 and carrier missions here during the 1980s, as well as some during the uprising a few years back. Isn't someone working on Carriers that were in service at the time? Also I believe the A7 and A6 Intruder are on the Horizon as well. Challenge Col Muammar Gaddafi and cross his line of death! OR Evacuate Embassy personnel from Benghazi (Historical rewrite of past events) Map is 800x 500 KM mostly desert and coastal cities. Stretch the map a little bit more north and you can maybe grab an airbase or two in southern Italy/ Sicily, Malta. F14, F18 vs Mig-23, Mig-25 With a land base you can include other blue non naval planes. With only 2 or 3 major cities could be faster to develop then a Central Europe or other largely populated map like Taiwan. Yes its another desert map, but probably a good one to start with if your a new developer. I know I would buy it.
  22. I have noticed this too. Been away from the sim for awhile and started practicing again. F 18 vs MiG 21 BIS the MiG was just going vertical all the time. I can shoot it down but I stall every-time. I dint think that MiG could do that since that's how the F4 defeated them in Vi et Nam also saw a video about the F14 and going vertical was one way of defeating enemy planes at the time.
  23. Makes me wonder if because of the chip markets being what they are that optimizing the core DCS program will become more front and center. I have read about the push to make the game use multiple threads and better use of hardware other than the GPU, so something is being done. No one knows when these improvements will be completed but the version numbers for DCS is getting close to 3.0! They just announced the roadmap for the Viper this year. However I have seen many posts recently about people quitting the game for awhile due to frustration. So maybe this needs to be a priority. As for chip shortages too many people in too many industries are suffering. Automakers have stock sitting in fields because they cant get the electronics for their cars to run. All eggs are in one basket in Korea and Taiwan, the industry will wake up and build more plants to cover the demand. (Or will civilization begin a slide backwards?) Still this shortage will be here for a couple more years. Crypto mining is going cooling off since China is cracking down and the billionaires have made their investments. Because so I can actually buy a 30XX card, for stupid money, so no thanks. I often wonder if the price for 30xx cards do come down, do I buy one or wait for for the RTX 40XX. The NVIDIA 30 series is half way through its cycle (Based on prior releases like the 20 series in Sept 2018. Will there be an announcement of the 40 series next spring?
  24. Saw a video on the modern version of the 15C and yes no need for the FC3 Version. However, the A10A cockpit is so analogue. Yes I would pay for an upgraded cockpit. However like it was said let see what happens with the Mig 29 FC3 model.
  25. Can combined arms be improved? Yes absolutely!! This is probably the third or fourth thread addressing this? What changes are you proposing here? So far I have read... Making all vehicles derivable with realistic interiors, including gunner/turret positions. I wonder how that will work on ships/ Subs. Making DCS more like a First person shooter COD or Arma ( I never played Arma so not sure what I am talking about.) DCS with payable modules such as M1 Abrams (fully modeled interior and systems like the planes) There are probably others I am missing, So what does this survey propose? I do spend time in DCS, simple missions like escorting a supply convoy, or just blowing stuff up. Nothing major like an entire battle front, more grand theft auto than anything serious, just for fun. I even use an Xbox controller in third person view to drive the vehicles. Unfortunately you cant use the turret unless your first person in the machine. (Bug?) I don't feel like you can command any large armor movements efficiently given the current interface. How many times do I discover that a group of assets is under attack by chance no notification that a group is under fire, or direction of where the fire is coming from. The AI has no effective defensive tactics. Like popping smoke when an enemy is shooting at you? How do I take command of naval assets, and set up formations, sub hunting, etc? I feel that a good command interface for DCS would be something like HARPOON. However since that game is decades old the potential to make DCS way better is a reality. They have inventories for warehouses and airfields! DCS has the potential to simulate strategic and logistical elements of the battlefield as well as front line elements. Yet another thread mentioned the implementation of ELINT and EW in DCS. Eagle could make something that is a learning asset at West Point. Would I buy such a module. (HARPOON interface and functionality) Yes. Would I buy each Tank or APC as a separate more immersive asset? (Maybe) Probably not every Tank or APC but talk to me what does that offer vs the standard Combined arms models. We all have our favorites after all. First Person Shooter (FPS) I don't know, (Probably not) you wont be able to clear buildings given the current environment (LOD of current buildings in game) and I don't think they should, DCS is not that game. I could be fun to be a soldier fighting block to block clearing a path or defending an urban area but again the Level of detail will be a constant discussion; this isn't Call of Duty after all.
