So I've figured out good landings, good takeoffs, few of the systems to get around...

I do the mission with the "Mig 28s" in nevada, and I keep getting my ass kicked. I'm never able to out turn the F5, so I always accelerate away using my power and climb and TRY to find him (usually never succeeding) and try again. I always get the missiles launched at me by them.

I just figured out how to use the pilot radar locks (only works while in SW though, never with guns?) so that helps a little with vertical high.

I'm a turner, and I thought this plane turned like nobody's business... am I wrong?

also the visibility is very bad in this plane, and even with jester calling out where the planes are, I'm having a tough time seeing anything. I'm resisting turning labels on

help me out. someone write an article on how to dogfight with this thing please!

I'm trying very hard not to give up on this plane, but as of now, anyone can make their bitch if I get in a dogfight with them! lol

Most the time you wanna go up and bleed them of their energy.

I too would love to hear someone with bfm experience chime in. I’ve seen the above video many times and all I can get from it is to keep going vertical.

The problem I have is when I go wertical I essentially leave myself with an aircraft that is barely controllable with stick. It’s very difficult to come over the top and only be able to adjust with rudder and baby pitch inputs. This is the toughest aircraft I’ve flown in a sim as far as bfm. But I’m sure enjoying trying to figure it out :)

same, and now I have full burners with my ass to the bad guy who shoots a sidewinder up my booty hole

Personally I feel no shame turning labels on. The way I see it, our human eyes have infinte resolution so we can see things like a MiG-21 coming at us from out of the sky or from below against the background.

But our monitors are limited to their resolution as specified, at least 1080p hopefully. So it makes it near impossible, especially in a turning fight, to pick out a MiG that is only 1 pixel on your screen.

So, I say having labels on is fair. Just sucks when there's tons of targers clustered together--then you are forced to turn off labels so you can see past the blob of red labels.

One thing that should be considered is that AI uses SFM and never makes mistakes, so it's eventually cheating esp. in a dogfight. Although you might suck at fighting them, you will probably be more than good enough to kick some butt against players.

Me too, I feel no shame with having the minimal (dot) label enabled. Especially for VR, and my "seasoned" Mark 1's... ;)

If you are fighting AI and they get on your six you can always cut throttle, apply brakes and make them overshoot. Just like top gun. Remember to fly evasively so they don’t hit you with guns. Remember to light the burners when you see that they are about to overshoot since the AI will invariably go vertical when this happens.

Well said. ACM is hard enough even without this limitation.

I always have aircraft labels on only.

This is a simulator being viewed on a desktop monitor so there are some limitations. I am all for realism but labels make up for some of the viewing limitations. I also would like to spend my time having fun as well instead of struggling the entire time just trying to spot aircraft.

I see a lot of assumptions about how easy people think they could spot aircraft w their mark one eyeballs in a real life dogfight. Even a simple general aviation flight in a traffic pattern would very rapidly disabuse you of that notion. You have to work at spotting aircraft in that big sky real life or sim. That’s part of the challenge.

In GA, I was able to spot planes much easier than in the sim. Especially the fields with no atc. That being said, we always coordinated where everyone was.

It's not that easy in real life either. No idea in a dogfight. Lol

Yup, dots for VR.

Yes, don’t try to analyze your (pathetic — welcome to the club!) performance when flying against the AI. The most amusing (once you’ve accepted it) dogfights are when you do F-86 vs MiG-15, where energy conservation is critical. If you’re flying the F-86, the MiG is utterly amazing. It never bleeds energy, shoots vertically like an F-15, and turns as well as you do. Same if you fly the MiG, the F-86 is a super weapon.

Ultimately the strategy against any AI on a plane of similar capabilities is either to let the AI overshoot, or get down to the deck asap and make him crash.
