Imacken is still using 1903 isn't he? There's a bug with that which makes all WMR headsets blurry, he'll need to roll back to 1809 to see the proper image clarity with the Reverb.

Posted (edited)

Finally, I'll boot into Windows 1903 later this week to see if there are any differences by not honoring the higher rendertarget.

And after I have sorted it all out, I'll post a new thread with my extensive review.

F18 aircraft on free flight instant action mission. You can see screen shots of the performance in the thread below. I look and judge the situation by turning my head 45 and sideways to see how much smearing or micro stutter I see. I see very little with the settings below.

I consistently see the vram just over 10gb and ram at 16gb. I have more in the system for both.

I already have wrapped/wire-tied to the circle in the back. To be honest, it's a little easier to work with than the original Vive cables. That was horrendous. This isn't as nice as Rift, but it's workable.

I mean COME ON!!!! @imacken, I have to believe something was wrong with your Reverb. There is a CLEAR difference between P5K+ which already has a CLEAR difference between the CV1.

Guys, I said all along that the 2 big plus points of the Reverb over the VP were resolution and (almost) total removal of SDE. The sharpness in terms of detail is excellent. But, there were quite a few other issues than I just couldn’t live with.

There was no blurriness on the Reverb in 1903 for me - but let’s not go down that road again!

Have you tried it in anything other than 1903?

No, but the sharpness couldn't have been better. However, I can't go down this route, as others will start on me for suggesting that there is no bug on the Reverb. I've been told to move on!:smilewink:

I mean, if it were me, I'd definitely try 1809 to see if there is a difference - it's pretty consistently reported in WindowsMR reddit that 1903 has an issue for all WMR headsets including the Reverb. You might just not know what you're missing out on.

Honestly, I don't want to go back down this route again. I've said all I have to say about the one Reddit thread reporting this issue, but thanks for the suggestion. Anyway, a clean install of 1809 is something I can't face!

Pretty sure it's a USB power issue - try plugging a powered USB 3.0 hub between the headset and the PC.

I was trying to record a few seconds through the Reverb lens with my Samsung Galaxy S9+ phone a few minutes ago to give folks on my squadron an idea of what I am seeing. It turns out (without it mounted) to be very difficult to hold the headset and phone by hand and get a picture in focus. It gives one an idea at least. One lens doesn't give much of a sweet spot. My Lenovo Explorer is so fuzzy by comparison. Colors looks fine.

Oh I have no doubt that it looks great. The lateral resolution is 4320 pixels which is huge compared to the Rift S 2560 or Vive Pro/Odyssey 2880, if anybody cannot tell the difference then they would need an eye exam.

O.M.G. Reverb is INCREDIBLY clear. I mean I got used to clarity because of Pimax5K+. I thought *that* was a step up from Rfit. Before I got SteamVR Mixed Reality installed (Windows Mixed Reality installed by itself) I thought I was ready to go. Since WMR installed by itself. Then I fired up DCS and it came up as a regular 2D big screen app inside the WMR portal. And even though I knew something was off, I got VERY excited because the 2D DCS in the big panel in the portal looked INCREDIBLE. No different than my monitor.

So I took a deep breath and installed the SteamVR's Windows Mixed Reality (search for it in the store). Then I jacked up the SS in SteamVR to 188%. That gives me 2208x2160 resolution. I set DCS' PD at 1.0.

WOW. HOLY COW. I mean there was *nothing* in the FA18 that I couldn't read. The small numbers on the MFDs were not a problem.

And I got 70's FPS in downtown Dubai at 300' off the ground. I even did the "Ready on the flight line" instant mission because in the past, that ate up FPS like crazy. Just looking at the other parked Hornets made the FPS drop. Here, it just went to 45, and went back up to 70s and 80s.

I mean COME ON!!!! @imacken, I have to believe something was wrong with your Reverb. There is a CLEAR difference between P5K+ which already has a CLEAR difference between the CV1.

I didn't change any settings yet. My in game setting is below.

And the default.vrsetings file had "renderTargetScale" : 2.0

And everything for motion reprojection was commented out (the default)

This was in Windows 1809.

I haven't installed steamVR WMR up to this point? Does it make a significant difference to just using steam VR and the standard WMR? Do I need to do anything specific to set it up?

You need steam vr wmr app from steam for DCS. Until dcs makes wmr support native. It will probably also have you install steamvr.

@Sohei - I think the SteamVR for WMR is required to make WMR headsets work with DCS.

Well I've got steamvr and wmr installed and dcs runs on the reverb fine. I just want to clarify if 'steamvr wmr' is necessary and offers any improvement?

Yeah I've got steamvr, but not wmr for steamvr, just the version that comes with Windows. Seems to run OK.

Yea I don't know if steamvr for wmr is required. Not sure why it's even there in steam because windows installs wmr on its own.

I suspect the SteamVR wmr app is probably not required tbh. Just native wmr and steamvr is most likely adequate.
