HP's Reverb VR Pro Headset

Guys stuarson has very low setting in dcs (i saw the pictures in his signature) when i tried his settings in the mission imacken requested i had similar numbers.

When i tried with mine much higher.

Later i will post the fpsvr pictures of the different scenarios.

It seems that shadows have an impressive hit and with all that hornets parked there the milliseconds goes really up

Sorry for the intrusion guys, but I have a small question.

I just received my Reverb today (yay!) and I'm installing everything by following vr4dcs.com.

Think I got most things going (although I can't find all options in the SteamVR settings as the menus seem to have changed quite a bit). Now I got to the part where it says:

Settings to change in the Steam.VR.Settings File

This turns on an advanced Reprojection mode that will smooth your experience even more. It is close to or better than the Oculus implementation as of this date.

NOTE: Changes to WMR BETA drivers, ED VR Modes, Microsoft WMR code or the wind direction can have an effect on this. It’s BETA.

File Location:

\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\MixedRealityVRDriver\resources\settings

File: default.vrsettings

In this file, the highlighted lines are commented out with //

Remove the // and restart Steam and SteamVR.

Optional: If you DO NOT want the indicator to show in your HMD, don’t uncomment the line for the Indicator. // “motionReprojectionIndicatorEnabled” : true,

No need to remove spaces and yes the quotes ” ” need to stay in place. Case also matters.

OPTIONAL:

Try either of these settings to see which works best for your Rig.

Less than a TI grade card and lower than 8700k CPU may need the second setting for performance.

Less Horsepower Rigs

“motionReprojectionMode” : “auto”,

},

Should I go through these steps as well?

This is not really my cupa tea and I don't want to mess things up

I guess if I take some time for it, I'll manage, but is it wise to do this?

Edit:

Oh and one more question:

Hopefully my ipd isn't out of range (I roughly measured ±66), but when I'm in DCS in VR with my Reverb on, it feels like I have to slightly look cross-eyed. I've tried several different ipd settings in WMR, but I couldn't really notice any difference for the better or worse (even when setting it all the way back to 59). At some point while flying I don't really notice it anymore, however when I remove my headset, I'm actually looking cross-eyed and my eyes need like half a minute to adjust

Could this effect be caused by something else, rather than my ipd?

I certainly hope so, because the image is just mind blowing and I want more of this!

What I did was just get a feel for VR using the stock settings, noting the fps and frametimes as I tooled around with the graphics settings to find what worked and what didn't in terms of detail. I then experimented with both "auto" and "motionvector", finally settling on the latter with SteamVR SS @ 150%. This gives me a very fluid experience with my chosen level of detail.

N.B. if (like me) you have a discrete drive for Steam installations, then the default.vrsettings file will be found in "<drive>\Steam\steamapps\common\MixedRealityVRDriver\resources\settings". ;)

Settings to change in the Steam.VR.Settings File

Hi Sirrah! Congrats on the Reverb!

Here's a good link from Microsoft about working with WMR and SteamVR for WMR. The VRsettings file is a bit different now, but the main settings you would change for enabling Motion Reprojection are covered in pretty good detail. If you want to delve into editing that file to turn Motion Reprojection on, I highly recommend getting Notepad++ to do the editing if you don't already have it. If you're nervous about messing something up, you can always create a temporary folder in a safe place and make a copy of the original VRsettings file in that folder.

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/mixed-reality/enthusiast-guide/using-steamvr-with-windows-mixed-reality

The important thing is to make the backup first, then just take baby steps in changing the settings. You don't have to do everything on the Microsoft page all at once, just take small steps until you get more comfortable with how the changes you make are affecting things. Don't forget, each time you make a change to that file and save it, you have to shut down SteamVR and SteamVR for WMR and let them restart so they can run the modified file. Just for extra safety, you may also want to shut down and restart WMR itself each time. Its all going to be about what you find works best for you, so don't pay too much attention to dogmatic statements about what the "best" setup is. :)

Oh...I just remembered another thing that changed from when that Microsoft article was posted. Supersampling now has a different relationship with headset resolution. At the time the article was written, you needed about 188% SS to reach roughly the native resolution of the Reverb. With the latest version of SteamVR, you only need 100% SS to get close to native resolution. So, I'd start by setting that to 100%, and then gradually increase the SS to a point where you are happy with the clarity and performance.

Thinking about it last night, I'm afraid this can only be caused by me having a slightly to large ipd

Oh no. I've noticed when I move my head, I'm getting colorful static in my displays and flashes as if it's cutting off & on. Also, might be unrelated, but my Reverb keeps going back to 60Hz. The WMR setting is at 90Hz and I've uninstalled/re-installed WMR through Steam but I can't get it back to 90Hz Anyone else had these problems before? I was using the beta versions, but I switched back to stable and it still stuck at 60Hz.

Just had my wife measure my ipd (still using a ruler, but more accurate than trying to do it myself). She measured somewhere around 67, but definately not more than 68.

So... if it were 68, that should still work without having to look crossed eyed, right?

When I change ipd in WMR, should I directly see difference, or do I have to close all VR applications first?

Not sure what is causing the issue you describe, but it certainly isn’t your IPD. I have 68mm IPD, and have no problems with the Reverb.

Yeah its impressive...

His cpu is comparable to mine but i am not getting anything near his numbers.

For the gpu...he is using 100% SS. Maybe with 150% you can stress the rtx 2080ti a bit :)

Anyway imacken you should try settings similar to his (shadows flat for example)

Ok, so I've been thinking about your situation and trying some stuff

Can one or two of you guys do me a favour? Load up Hornet 'Ready on the Ramp' in Persian Gulf and the 'Cold Start' Training Mission and tell me what you see in fpsVR for CPU frame time.

Just saw the VirusAM screens. I nitice that I didnt use the same mission. I thought I followed the request but I was standing on a carrier with a few F-18 ahead and also a helicopter in the view.

Maybe specify more exact which mission to use? It would have to be the same to make sence :)
