Sorry waiting for mine to arrive, wasn't yet aware it is displayport.

Displayport cables are limited to two meters or revert to the next lowest spec.

RBR (Reduced Bit Rate) RBR DisplayPort Cable 6.48 Gbit/s

HBR (High Bit Rate) Standard DisplayPort Cable 10.80 Gbit/s

HBR2 (High Bit Rate 2) Standard DisplayPort Cable 21.60 Gbit/s

HBR3 (High Bit Rate 3) DP8K Cable 32.40 Gbit/s

Interesting, but not really surprising. Nor is the fact that the HP cable is probably heavily shielded to improve SNR. Given that DP was designed to work with a monitor thats probably the distance from a tower to a monitor its unlikely to be more than 2m for most people.

How long is the reverb cable 4m? Isn't there a short and a long? I personally could get by with a 2M one.

Dug a little deeper, the first source of info wasn't fully developed in it's answer.

The DisplayPort standard does not specify any maximum length for cables, though the DisplayPort 1.2 standard does set a minimum requirement that all cables up to 2 meters in length must support HBR2 speeds (21.6 Gbit/s), and all cables of any length must support RBR speeds (6.48 Gbit/s). Cables greater than 2 meters may or may not support HBR/HBR2 speeds, and cables of any length may or may not support HBR3 speeds.

That is a big loss in data transmission speed going over 2 meters. Is 6.48Gbit/s enough to drive two 2160 images?

Unless its an amplified/boosted cable. Just to toss that bit of confusion in there :)

Along comes Displayport 2.0. 8K headsets are coming. We may go through this again in two years.

https://www.roadtovr.com/displayport-2-4k-vr/

"VESA mentions that through the DisplayPort Alt Mode, DP 2.0 has the ability to provide data transmission for two 4,096 × 4,096 VR/AR displays running at 120Hz—30 bits per pixel (bpp) and 4:4:4 HDR with Display Steam Compression.

The VirtualLink connector, a VR standard created by a consortium of industry players, was released last year, and includes everything you need to connect the next generation of VR headsets to your GPU with a single, thin cable—support for four lanes of HBR3 DisplayPort for high-resolution displays, USB 3.1 Gen2 (SuperSpeed USB 10Gbps) for headset cameras and sensors, and up to 27 Watts of power delivery."

"The VirtualLink standard has made its way onto Nvidia’s RTX 2080 and 2080 Ti graphics cards, combining video, audio, and power into one single USB Type-C port."

I actually heard these guys may have folded.

HP Canada rep just called me back today, and let me know that the Reverb will be available in 3 to 4 weeks, as they are correcting issues with every Reverb that was selected to be shipped to Canadian resellers. I asked her if she knew if it was replacing the cable/whatever, but she didn't know specifics, just that they had to pull the entire shipment for Canada and replace/fix problems with each unit.

Well, I'll be importing mine form Canada then! Will probably have to use a freight forwarder and pay local taxes. How much are local taxes btw? :)

Don't you normally have to pay taxes in your own locality? When I buy from the states I don't pay whatever taxes they might charge in the states....

but, ftr, sales tax in Canada varies province to province, typically between 13 and 15% in combined federal and provincial tax.

If I buy from the US/ Canada directly and have my true international address then I don't have to pay US/ Canada taxes.

But HP does NOT ship internationally. Which is why I will have to use a local freight forwarder. So my delivery address will be the freight forwarder's address in the US/ Canada and sales tax will be charged based on his location.

US taxes are pretty low or even zero in some states so this works fine. But with 15% in Canada as you have said, its not worth it.

Sadly, testing tonight has resulted in a return to hp decision. This headset to me feels cheap, is extremely dim, and now is starting to flicker badly. On dimness, the headset is only about half as bright as my o+ with marginally better resolution. Very sad. I’m glad others have had better experiences. The reverb just isn’t for me.

Ran at 188% ss in steam @ 90hz. I tried really high gamma and some other things with same results.

Try dropping your SS to 160% and dropping the refresh rate to 60Hz, then manually take it back to 90Hz. Set visual quality to high.

This has been found to work for a few people and the refresh tip is straight from HP apparently. Have you done the cable mod? It really solves a lot of issues. I have not seen any real difference between CV1 and the Reverb either brightness wise or in any colour except really deep black.

Your rig is far superior to mine, so you should be getting better results than I am.

Finally, try a set of in ear headphones and physically remove the originals.

I have been using in ear phones for a couple of days now in my quest to get buttkicker working and yesterday, finally got around to taking the OE headphones off completely.

It is a very much improved headset in many respects with them off. It makes a big difference.

BREAK.

Slightly off topic...

I have been thinking of pre ordering the new version jetseat, the one with the flight package.

Question to those who have one, does it use telemetry from in game, or just sound like the buttkicker?

With all the problems I have had getting the Reverb running (almost) seamlessly, I don't want to order one and find the same problems with it, and WMR.

I figure a few who will spend £1400 on a GPU and £600 on a headset who are on this thread will likely have tried buttkicker and the jetseat.

Is the jetseat a worthy successor to buttkicker? For those that never tried buttkicker, it's like VR, once you walk down that path you can never go back.

Downside is that even though I mounted my chair on metalastic mountings (think engine mounts), it can still shake the house a lot.

I hear jetseat is quiet in operation, but does it still deliver the shakes, rattles and rolls as good as my buttkicker gamer 2 setup?

EDIT: after watching a couple of youtube reviews I preordered the Realtus Jetseat and downloaded the simshaker for aviators software.

+1

I’m really glad that others are now echoing what I said 2 or 3 weeks ago. All that plus the hardware issues - and WMR! - made the Reverb is a no-go for me as well.

At the time, some people were saying it was my eyesight, or something wrong with my system.

Let’s hope HP get it all sorted out soon, but in the meantime, I waiting patiently on the Index!

Like Nagilem, I’m glad it’s working well for others though.

I've only just realised that there is a pretty significant difference between running WMR direct from Windows versus running WMR for SteamVR. WMR for SteamVR doesn't open up that quite frankly annoying room which then takes up a load of resources. Overall it's much more stable and efficient, and has made DCS run a lot more stable.

The only way for Reverb to be "extremely dim" is for it to be a lemon. I had to reduce gamma in DCS and IL2 as it was overly bright, read that others did the same.

Clarity increase compared to the RiftS (reported to be better than Odyssey's) is certainly not marginal either.

It's all subjective really. All I can say is that, in my opinion, compared to the VP, the display of the Reverb was lacking in pop and dynamic range. I put this down to LCD panels compared to the OLED of the VP. I also felt the previously mentioned dimness and had to increase gamma.

Resolution was great in cockpit, but I felt that terrain image quality was a bit soft, again, compared to the VP.

But, there is no definitive answer to all this. Different eyes, different preferences, etc. Each to his own.

Just wondering what everyone is using to clean there reverb lens? (mine now need a clean) - was told previously my reverb (pro version) should have come with a cleaning cloth which should be all that you need(which I didn't get) - HP tech support just told me they don't come with cleaning cloths! - they are suggesting using lens wipes (non-alcoholic)? anyone got any suggestions?

Note when I had my rift was recommended (MCR lens wipes - for plastic glasses) and for the vive (was told Zeiss cleaners which I think were alcoholic)………..

What about the Vive cosmos? I haven't read much about it but I don't know if it's like the quest whereas you can't directly connect it to pc?

I'm really hoping they do figure out the issues with the reverb but I don't have much hope. I haven't flown since the news of these new headsets because I wanted to replace my original Odyssey. Seems like I'll just be waiting longer.

Woah. I would be very cautious about using compressed air to clean any optics. I know for rifle scopes that is absolutely verboten, as the compressed air may force its way past seals and damage internals, as well as damage lens coatings. I don't know if there are any applied lens coatings going on in VR headsets, but I would follow your manufacturers instructions on cleaning to the letter, rather than rely on 'Wikihow'.
