Well I guess no F-16 can operate from a classic Russian AB (broken runway, missing parts on the runway, grass and little trees) :D!!

lol! yeah....everyone has to agree. lol! thats one good thing about russian planes. They are little tin cans. Just fuel up and fly. Unlike the snazzy western jets which require all that maintenance and so on. lol! Well....I am biased towards my flanker...so lol! (Actually if there is one US plane I love its the HOG). ;)

Thats true! Thats true! :lol::lol::lol::pilotfly:

How about trees growing on and from buildings ;)

Have you ever seen the rocks on a Russian runway, man, it would rain F-16s at the end of that runway.

LMAO :megalol:

That's what I always thought of F-16s... they are not true warplanes.

Note sure about the F-16 but I would guess it went through the same testing as the F-22. Most of those migs were probably already grounded as well due to mechanical problems, thus getting stuck in the snow :P

According to Brent Poulson, the F-22 combined test force climatic laboratory program manager, since the F-22 arrived at Eglin in early June, the Raptor has been subjected to cold weather tests such as -40 degrees with its engines running, and then -65 degrees without an engine run.

"We had eight inches of snow on top of the aircraft and also performed a windblown snow test," Poulson said.

About 70 people from Edwards Air Force Base, Calif., accompanied the aircraft here to analyze how the F-22 performs in weather extremes.

"We've been planning these weather tests since at least 1987, and the tests are an extremely integral part of the program," said Brig. Gen. William J. Jabour, program executive officer for fighter and bomber programs for the assistant secretary of the Air Force. The general visited the F-22 CTF recently while attending a conference here.

As I know from our country during F-16 and Mig-29 cooperations, our migs taked off without problem from our military bases but after that, some crew have to clean runways for F-16. So the true is that F-16 is not able to start from classic runways before some clean up, or lets say THEY COULD BUT ONLY ONCE ;)

Thats because the Mig29 has intake doors to prevent FOD and vents on the top.

Yep they are pretty nice. Curious why not more planes use these(or do they?)

Seems like a very efficient way of not sucking stuff into engine.

S = SPARSE(m,n) abbreviates SPARSE([],[],[],m,n,0). This generates the ultimate sparse matrix, an m-by-n all zero matrix. - Matlab help on 'sparse'

Actualy the Su-27 family uses much more simple engine intake protections- a grill that deploys/raises when the nose gear lifts off/main gear touches down. Newer MiGs like the M/K/MK also have grills instead of this complex system. True, it fully closes the engine intake but also leaves no space in the LERXes that could be used for avionics/fuel tanks.

And what is this that the F-16 can't take off from rough runways? Of course it can, but with it's lower intake location and lack of FOD protection it's pretty worthy to make sure the runway is as clean as possible to minimize the risk of damaging a few million dollar engine, isn't it? ;) When I first saw on video US ground staff with gloves and brushes walking on the ramp and cleaning every piece they could spot I was like- Whoooo! Loosers!- but after I started working IRL maintenance where every $ is precious not to metion few millions I found myself doing exactly the same. It's a question of how you take your job and the aircraft you're maintaining.

Thats the point the can`t OPERATE (sure the F-16 can take off from a standart street as well but operating everyday would keep the F-16 in the hangar all the time and waiting for some engine`s) from bases like in RUSSIA.:D
