Wizard1393 Posted July 15, 2019 Posted July 15, 2019 So here goes. Just exchanged my old GX 980 to an RTX 2080. I'm getting WORSE performance in games with the 2080. DCS is like giving me 60% of what it used to with my old 980. Where i would see 60-70 FPS with the GTX980, I now see 30-40 with the 2080. GPU shows 100% in windows task manager, and thats in just 1080p and not at all maxed out settings. Help! What could be wrong? Svsmokey Posted July 15, 2019 Posted July 15, 2019 It is a free downloadable utility that will clear the old graphics card drivers . THEN install the new ones . There have been two changes in architecture between the 970 and 2080 . Be sure and follow instructions regarding booting in safe mode to install new drivers . Also , visit Nvidea for latest updates after new driver installation . 9700k @ stock , Aorus Pro Z390 wifi , 32gb 3200 mhz CL16 , 1tb EVO 970 , MSI RX 6800XT Gaming X TRIO , Seasonic Prime 850w Gold , Coolermaster H500m , Noctua NH-D15S , CH Pro throttle and T50CM2/WarBrD base on Foxxmounts , CH pedals , Reverb G2v2
Wizard1393 Posted July 15, 2019 Author Posted July 15, 2019 Thanks for the tip. I disabled my NIC, rebooted to safe mode and ran DDU clean and then shutdown. Started up, installed latest drivers, same result :( :( :( Did I just waste $730 on a graphics card??? How is it even possible that I get MUCH worse performance with a 2080 over a 980??? Heeeeeeelp! veenee Posted July 15, 2019 Posted July 15, 2019 as above - what about other games? do they also struggle or is it just DCS? have you ever made changes in your BIOS? perhaps loading default values or updating it would make sense? So many modules, so little time... www.mikphotography.com

Wizard1393 Posted July 15, 2019 Author Posted July 15, 2019 You need to give your other specs, you could be bottlenecked somewhere else. This is not a DCS issue. All games affected. Jabbers_ Posted July 15, 2019 Posted July 15, 2019 Typically when installing new nvidia drivers sometimes the nvidia power profile setting gets set to adaptive instead of performance. See here https://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3130/~/setting-power-management-mode-from-adaptive-to-maximum-performance See if that helps. Twitch2DCS - Bring twitch chat into DCS. Wizard1393 Posted July 16, 2019 Author Posted July 16, 2019 Thanks all for the tips. However seems like something might be wrong with the card. It never adjust GPU clock speed to above 300Mhz, which means the card is performing just 20% of min capacity (1500Mhz) or 17% of max capacity (1710Mhz). My first thought after discovering this was that maybe one of the PCIe power connectors wasn't connected properly, but I've checked and double checked and they're connected properly. VampireNZ Posted July 16, 2019 Posted July 16, 2019 (edited) Have you tried some different power connectors from your power supply - you should have a few you can use. But yea that 0mV is bad news - possibly a dud card. Just RMA it for a new replacement one. There has been a lot of news about the 20 series of cards crapping out, but mostly due to dud GDDR6 memory. Very strange your graphics works for 2D frequency. It shows 0 mV is fine, the condition is unlock voltage monitoring, I'd now rather not do that. Show more: dxdiag.txt? Wexler Posted July 16, 2019 Posted July 16, 2019 (edited) Start with BIOS. (press DEL at computer start-up). Dont change anything you dont understand and don´t forget to save settings. Maybe you discover something here. Also what is your PSU (Power supply - wattage) ? And are you sure you can manage cooling of the beast? This behaviour I have mostly seen when cooling wasnt enough. Check ventilators, Vacuum the case etc. In your case I would say problem with PSU, maybe non-functional cabels, or jsut too low wattage?
