GumidekCZ Posted October 18, 2019 Posted October 18, 2019 I would like to start discussion about visibility of lights (size, distance) during the all 24h of the day. It is big issue mainly during bad weather, dusk, night and sunrise time. It has been long time ago, when was complaining about plane and airfield light range visibility. Since then, almost nothing happens; I know I know, many other more important stuff needed to be done. I’m glad that DCS is being improved continuously month by month, year by year. With this in mind, I would like to point out this problem of DCS, which is creating huge problems every night flight, where planes are closer than 7nm (example). I will not comment here all the problems, which lack of light visibility distance is creating to me and my friends. It would be great improvement if somebody from ED team will try to fix this.
ghost84 Posted October 18, 2019 Posted October 18, 2019 +1 This is a really BIG problem for us who like to do night ops.
twistking Posted October 18, 2019 Posted October 18, 2019 i understand that a complete overhaul of night lighting is a big task, but as an interim solution could we just get the aircraft lights visible over great distance just as sprite-based lights? i don't see how that'd be more work than just adding the sprites to the lods... My improved* wishlist after a decade with DCS *now with 17% more wishes compared to the original

kreisch Posted October 29, 2019 Posted October 29, 2019 Lighting is being worked on by the team, especially night lighting.Hey, Most of us know, but the question "how long will this one take?" remains. Obviously I know about the pressure, repriorization etc etc.... That's called software development. But could ED give us a workaround until this is fixed? Maybe unrealistic and bad looking lights... But lights! Something which is looking not great but which is usable until the pretty implementation is ready? Working on this topic is good, but if you think how long the lighting is Already in the current state, I can also understand the frustration. Maybe a developer has a nice "1 hour idea" which could be used as a workaround for the current time ;) Gesendet von meinem VOG-L29 mit Tapatalk Ugly-Squadron GamestarPinboard

lucky-hendrix Posted October 29, 2019 Posted October 29, 2019 A New graphics engine ? Are you serious ? We are talking years ! Maybe Devs should have thought about this kind of issue while implementing the current engine. We are not talking about a small cosmetic issues, we are talking about a fundamental part of the game. Unable to see aircraft afar during night. Unable to have landing light illuminates runway ... Sent from my VTR-L09 using Tapatalk
Tippis Posted October 29, 2019 Posted October 29, 2019 (edited) Since April, 2018 I assume? Nah. It was deferred shading/PBR introduction that broke all night lighting – it was a part of 2.1 that came out in May 2017. So that's 2½ years now that one third (the night third) of the game hasn't really been usable… ;) Edited October 29, 2019 by Tippis ❧ ❧ Inside you are two wolves. twistking Posted October 29, 2019 Posted October 29, 2019 We understand the frustration, but yes it is an issue that needs to be done right and may require the new graphics engine before it can be implemented. I assume the new graphics engine is the switch to Vulkan. Can we expect that for this year still? I was surprised that the new cloud tech is planned for "later this year", as i wuld assume that it'd be built upon Vulkan, since it would not make too much sense to develop it for the "old" engine at this point... If you cannot answer to that, can you at least say, if it's "years away" or mere months away... ?! :) My improved* wishlist after a decade with DCS *now with 17% more wishes compared to the original

ac5 Posted October 29, 2019 Posted October 29, 2019 The Mig21 is the only plane with realistic nose wheel lights. Indeed. Maybe even a little bit too bright, but anyway, it shows what is possible to do with the CURRENT GRAPHICS ENGINE. It is not a problem of the graphics engine, but more a reluctance from the devs to implement something that is utterly overdue. That being said, the night lighting issue remains, and should be addressed ASAP in my opinion. This should be possible with the CURRENT GRAPHICS ENGINE, see my previous post.
