Razor18 Posted December 13, 2019 Posted December 13, 2019 Hi There, M61 has unreal dispersion, like shooting with a shotgun loaded with tracer pellets. For testing purposes, in the shell_table.lua i toned down each M61 bullet type's Da0 to 0.0008, went dogfighting. If I kept the "tracking mode" A/A gun reticle dot right on the opponent, I always missed it, tracers went by waaay behind it. I had to put the reticle waay in front of him, almost by half the reticle diameter, practically the big outer circle touching his nose, which is, I dunno, 40 mils, to hit. I know it was a "cheat" or a "sniper gun", but even if I leave it on the original 3x wider "garden hose" dispersion of Da0=0.0022, the middle of the grouping should be where the dot is pointing anyways, shouldn't it? Sorry if reported already..

Razor18 Posted December 13, 2019 Author Posted December 13, 2019 Thanks I found the dispersion part of it. Insufficient reticle lead is still a problem, I just found others reporting similar some times back, but "wasn't reproducable".

DLEGION Posted December 15, 2019 Posted December 15, 2019 honestly, i dont know personally the M61 but i suppose for coherence that aircrafts mounting same cannon should have same dispersion. about F18 radar gun sight lead...its waaay off. i've been get used to it and anticipate it ..but seems strange that older planes like F14 have perfect lead and newer F18 have not. something seems wrong.

ED Team BIGNEWY Posted December 16, 2019 ED Team Posted December 16, 2019 How do I make and save tracks? Thanks for help, am not really into it (yet). Hi You can save a track replay when you exit a mission during the debrief window. Once saved it can be attached here when you switch to advanced mode for reply. If possible make the track as short as possible, picking an air start mission for example. thanks Forum rules - DCS Crashing? Bankler Posted December 16, 2019 Posted December 16, 2019 I'm obviously not the original poster. But I think I'd agree with the statement that the lead is not calculated correctly. I've sort gotten used to it, and have a habit to put the pipper in front of the target and spray a lot more bullets than I normally would. I tested it a bit now to see if I see some patterns. One theory is that the distance is not taken into account as it should. At 3000 ft I consistently miss and the bullets go behind the target (as seen in the track, even when I lead a tiny bit). But at 2000 ft it seems to work fine, at least in this aspect. Short trk attached. I have no idea how accurate the real jet is. But if it's supposed to be accurate at 3000 ft, I do believe it needs some tweaking.GunPipperTest.trk Bankler's CASE 1 Recovery Trainer
