LHD JUAN CARLOS I (L61) MOD

At this point, as you've ignored multiple requests to ship a zip rather than an .exe, I'm assuming it contains malware or at least does something that you don't want people to know about.

Shame, it looked like a nice project.

If you check the A-4E Mod discord’s, it is amazing how many people gets the install on the wrong folder ... it is a pain having to teach so many users how to install, it doesn't matter if you add a FAQ, most wont read it. So, I can understand a modder desire to avoid this headache.

I downloaded the exe and let it run once, then I packaged this mod in OvGME format because I want the ability to enable or disable it as I see fit. Then I removed the installer. If it were indeed infected with something, my antivirus would have acted.

I get that a lot of people are happy to download .exe files from the internet and run them, but a lot aren't, and with good reason. For every person who spoke up in this thread and in the store page comments, there's dozens or hundreds who thought ".exe file? no way" and silently ignored the project.

Sure it passed your antivirus, but maybe it put a .dll or .exe in some out of the way spot that does something you would rather it didn't. You don't know, do you? It probably didn't, and the exe is probably just to ensure that people accept their license agreement despite what they say about "making it easier", but...

Re the A-4, even with those challenges the team still understands and respects the right way to distribute DCS mods. And it's open source. The Illustrious / Invincible mod is distributed (properly) via the store User Files, in zip/rar - not via an external website and an exe from Mega. There are good reasons of trust why devs decide to do that, and avoiding having to support users who don't understand how to manually install mods is not - imo - a good enough reason to distribute L61 so opaquely.

But that's the dev's decision, and if they're happy to lose users because of it, cool.

Hi,

The desdemicabina-simulation team has been using this type of diffusion since their first work. I have never encountered the slightest problem with their installer.
However, it is a pity not to have an OvGME format.

The ships are superb. Thanks to the team.

you are right, I don’t really know... but with that attitude towards software I wouldn’t be able to do much with my computer as most software is distributed trough an installer exe .. I couldn't even install windows because, hey, it’s not open source, who knows how many spywares it includes 🙂

Another reason why they may be distributing their mod outside ED’s Users Files, is because they ask for donations.

Snip...

Why don't you just download it and unzip it? You know you can do that right?
And your AV should be able to check it anyway.
And I agree with Rudel as to why they distribute outside of ED forums.
And of course I have donated.
Cheers!

They've used a form of .exe packing that is resistant to extraction. So no, you can't do that.

Not so, I just tried it on the latest version of this mod:

Thanks @MAXsenna .. much easier than running the installer 🙂

Edit: Sang victory before time .. the exe is inside a RAR file, it must still be installed 😞

Great! My memory is still serving me well then!
This is what I did with the MB-339 module too, to package into OvGME etc.

Btw. Congrats on getting southern part of Chile. Can't wait to see what you can do with it!
Cheers!

Yes, I much prefer to have the ability to run DCS with no Mods at all, very useful for debuging new Mods:

Thanks .. actually I had swored to myself that I wouldn't purchase another Razbam module until they fixed the MiG-19 .. but having Chile on DCS has way too much appeal to me, so I will probably purchase it on day 1 .. my grudge with the Mig-19 be damned 🙂

Just testing this new version of the L-61 .. seems very nice, love the lighting effects:

I offered to make Liveries for Canberra, Adelaide, Hobart, Brisbane and Sydney.  The destroyers were easy enough to do, but I asked them if they would remove the plated on L61 on the side because that was impossible to hide even with matching colours. (See the image). The reply I got from them was they did not want anyone making a "Franken" version of their Mod. I went to a lot of trouble to redo the flight deck and hide the L61 numbers and other stuff as well as I could, and I thought the Liveries were pretty good.  Sadly not wanted.

'Franken' Indeed - I withdrew my offer.

Complete lack of surprise here with this team, sadly. I was going to base a campaign around the Canberra class, but no way I'm listing it as a prerequisite with their attitude to control and monetisation. Using a fictional Queen Elizabeth class (HMAS Coffs Harbour) instead.

Sadlly for now the L61 is included in the Edm with a diferent material ( thats why you cant hide it )
Dont know if that will change in future versions or never at all but could be a good option  in order to be posible for comunity members to create its own country skin.

Weve been focused on bug fixing and creating a new asset for 2.9 .
( if thats the case It wont be for next version or anytime soon)

Nobody is hidding anythin , if you want to download it its your call .
Is a free charge mod made by comunity members for comunity.
Is a user friendlly decision based in a "low level technical knowledge download" taken by Head of project ( will ask about if that could change).

The dev team has the right to keep something in a way if you like it or not.
The release of the first staged was to share something that was made for us for fun.
We are not a bussines or selling any type of digital content.

But is the dev team call (not yours) how the path is walked and when.

Edit : For 2.9 Ovgme version approved
It wasnt noticed how the install was an issue for many and it dont take much time to prepare a folder to the used by  Ovgme or Jsgme .
In the future we will be more in touch by forum and discord ( https://discord.gg/wGwekcT4kx ) but due to workloadout it wasnt quite posible. ( to be honest today is the first time Ive heard that you want a ovgme comp ver and will be for next ver as Ive said before).

I know that this is not an important point, and probably it's because I'm not a native english speaker, but I used the word "ask" in the sense that on the Webpage there is a Donation button with the label "Give support with a donation" ... of course, the Mod is free and the visitor can donate or not .. else I would have used the word "request" instead of "ask"  🙂

Goodnight everyone.
I will try to answer most of the topics that I have seen posted here.
As everyone will imagine, this project's sole objective is to distribute a series of units belonging to the Spanish army,
completely free of charge. Each ship requires a lot of work: 3d edition, painting, LUAS edition, lighting, weapons, information search ...
I think we already explained it sometime, but the reason why we do not make other boats like the Canberra, Adelaide, Hobart, Brisbane and Sydney is that the 3d model is not exactly the same as the L61 and from the beginning we wanted this project to include units that are as real as possible.
We would love to be able to make those boats, they are beautiful, but the 3d work takes many hours and for now we have focused on Spanish units.
Believe me, I would love to be able to have much more time and to be able to make the necessary modifications and to be able to offer you those boats, but I do not dedicate myself to this and my profession requires a lot of time and daily study, and of course my family.

A malware? Are you serious?.I doubt it.
Obviously all the files we upload are extremely safe.
After all this selfless work, do you think we were going to do something like that? It's crazy ...
The first version we did without .exe but we saw that many people had problems when installing it, they asked us questions daily and as I explained previously, our time is limited.
Even so, I have decided that for the next version we will have the option (thanks to our friend and collaborator "gone1crazy") to include the Ovgme version.
I can tell you that we are finishing the development of the L51 Castilla ship, which despite having been a father only 5 months ago, I have taken time to develop it.
Frankly, we do not mind at all having more or less followers, clients, friends, or whatever you want to call it.
This project is not intended to earn money, rather I can assure you that I have lost a lot of money in its development, but I repeat, I do not care. If you like it and want to install it and make a donation, perfect, but if not, then great too.
Fortunately I have a job that allows me to dedicate myself to this without depending on anything else.

Kind Regards  to all from the paradise of Europe.
Canary Islands.

How do I use this fine ship? I see it is installed and I have the tab for it. The paints for the Harrier work, but I see no L61 in the Mission Editor or anywhere else to allow me to use it. Also, is there a manual somewhere?

If I missed something that is right in front of my face, my apologies. Thank you in advance!

Assuming that it is correctly installed, and that you choose Spain as country, the only other thing that could be hiding the L61 would be an activated Historic Filter .. no user Mod is compatible with that feature:
