It was ok for me on the previous build, but now they are barely visible from 50ft. Didn't change anything in the settings and all the view distances are set to max, graphics on highest, drivers updated. The deck crew are missing their glowsticks as well.

Cool, so the minor issue is known, but the major isn't.

Same on the Forrestal and even shore runways. It seems something with the lighting engine across DCS as a whole has reduced visibility, with carriers being hit the worst. With runways I can at least see them from 2nm out, but the carriers I can't see landing area lighting (centerline) until 0.5nm, after calling the ball on a CASE III pass.

I’ve been away from DCS for a while, came back looking forward to some new SuperCarrier features. Just completed a CASE III, and almost flew into the island whilst following the ILS down perfectly. The landing deck lights were almost invisible till 0.1nm!

Has there been a fix to this issue I’m not yet aware of, or has it been left broken for the last 2 years, since I first reported it?

Yeah it's bad rn. Only LRLL are visible at night decently, then the red vertical line is ok and green horizontal lines on FLOLS (but only if the carrier is heading right direction, lol), then barely visible landing lights at touch down and of course the meatball went missing.

For my colleagues and me, who have been flying carrier operations for over two years, the current setup feels far from ideal. We would prefer the lighting to be as bright as it was in the beginning. It’s hard to understand why such details aren’t left under the control of the server owner or administrator. A better approach would be to delegate this decision to the mission maker by adding a configurable parameter for these attributes in the Carrier unit properties. Hardcoding such features inevitably invites criticism, as there will always be someone dissatisfied with decisions made arbitrarily by the developers.

Lighting bugs should be fixed, not left for players to control.

For those enjoying the thrill of landing on the boat in the darkness, I've tweaked the landing area lights so that they are usable again. It's not perfect, but you can actually see the landing area before calling the ball.

The file is OMM ready, if you are using it. For those who don't, unzip the contents of the "CV_Landing_Area_bright_v1.0" folder in archive into your core DCS directory (NOT the saved games directory!). Make sure to backup the original texture archive in "\DCS World OpenBeta\CoreMods\tech\USS_Nimitz\Textures\USS_Nimitz.zip"

Except we're not talking about fixing the lights, because they work, but about adjusting their brightness, which is definitely a matter of preference.

You can have your preference but DCS carriers should be modeled as close to RL as possible. What you ask though is possible with mods.

I completely agree! On real-life aircraft carriers, there’s often the capability to adjust the brightness of selected lighting during operations. It would be fantastic to have a similar option implemented in DCS.

Regarding mods, you’re absolutely right that they can be a solution. However, when it comes to LRLL specifically, I’ve been searching for some time and haven’t found anything that fits the bill. Since you seem confident that it’s possible to achieve this with mods, I’m sure you know where to find an example. I’d greatly appreciate it if you could share your knowledge with us.

Could you point me toward a resource or provide guidance on the files that might need to be modified to adjust the brightness of the “Laser” to suit my preferences and those of my colleagues? Also, the key question: would such a modification affect compatibility with IC?

On another note, I’ve noticed a bit of a “passive-aggressive” tone in many of your comments, which makes for quite the impression. You must really believe you’re the expert here. Keep doing your thing!

Thanks, I will

I thought you were after landing lights as this is the thread title?!

LRLL are also pretty fine atm and confirmed close to RL by guys that actually were there. Check the other threads. It's not even the real laser there so don't expect it to be visible for very long range. If you have better info feel free to share your experience - I'm always happy to learn.
