A update from Racer:

"I have isolated the first component of the F-14D fuselage to begin texturing.

I have included a picture which shows some of the existing detail for reference.

You will now also see outlines in the texture which should help you to isloate key areas

to avoid painting overlap where you do not want it.

Next piece coming up."

Racer is at it again.

Racer:

"I have isolated the bottom fuselage portion of the F-14D and have added

this new piece to the texture 2 map.

You can see the spaces of white which represent the wheel doors. I would texture right

over these area as I will just add the map to these pieces.

Please update your map file with the link provided below."

A poly count update:

Thus far everything you see done on the F-14D has a total poly count thus far of: 9230

For the F-18F we are up to: 5764 thus far.

So far I am feeling really good we can hit the 25000-35000 range for both

and retain exceptional detail. icon_cool.gif

Although everything you guys are talking about is Chinese for me......................i find it awsome stuff and its for the good of the Lock-on community................keep up the good work...........you guys rock!!!!!

The F-14D is starting to come alive....

Racer:

"Well I finally got my newer version of 3ds Max 2008 running on my Macbook Pro icon_e_biggrin.gif .

This newer version has much better math modifiers when it comes to reducing the polys.

In version 8 the lowest I could get the fuselage down to was 13,135 before distortion occured.

In this new one you see pictured the fuslage is only 4356 poly's icon_e_biggrin.gif icon_e_biggrin.gif with NO distortion at all.

So when we add it all together thus far, here are the results.

Total Polygon count to date: 11,293

I have had to re-do the fuslage texture map as I have had to separate the components

of the fuslage a little differently. (Always learning.....it is the best part)"

Racer:

"Well guys, I have finished the fuselage of the F14-D whewwww.

As you can see from the different colors each one is its own texture

to keep the writing right side up and keep pieces from overlaping other pieces.

This should keep the F14D texture guys busy for awhile. icon_e_wink.gif.

Now we are onto the F-18F fuslage to get it to this same point before we come

back to the F-14D to start the little detail pieces.

Total F-14D Polygon Count to Date: 11,838"

DAMN! thats awesome! Working on 2 models at once must be crazy!

DCS Wishlist: 1) FIX THE DAMN RIVERS!!! 2) Spherical or cylindrical panorama view projection. 3) Enhanced input options (action upon button release, etc). 4) Aircraft flight parameter dump upon exit (stick posn, attitude, rates, accel, control volume, control-surface positions, SAS bias, etc). 5) ADS-33 maneuver courses as static objects. 6) Exposed API or exports of trim position and stick force for custom controllers. 7) Select auto multiple audio devices

Hold on to your socks ladies and gentlemen. The F-14D Tomcat is getting some animations.

Some notes from Racer.

"I have decided to start adding some of the animations onto the F-14D model.

Makes it look like it is getting somewhere. icon_e_wink.gif

You can see the stabilizers and the rudders at there max throws.

I will go after the wings and their components next."

"Here are the wings in the various positions. icon_e_wink.gif

It is interesting that the model in its normal state will have the wings

sweep back to the 68 degrees high speed flight attitude.

It is when we drop the first notch flaps when they will swing to the 20 degree position.

I am thinking that with the first notch flaps position I will still have the flaps in the up postion

even though the flight model will have them at first notch down. This will give the illusion

of manuvering with the wings out without flaps hanging down.

It is when we fo full flaps that the flaps will move and the spoilers pop up.

Got to love the Lock-On workarounds. :)"

Racer is still working on the Animations for the Tomcat...he is cookin with gas baby. :pilotfly:

Racer:" Things are going very well with the F-14D wing animations. icon_e_smile.gif

In the first shot this is the first flap position which is the low speed manuvering position of the sweep.

Notice the front slat is also deployed 7 degrees at this attitude.

In the sencond picture, as we go to full flaps for landing, the slat extends to 17 degrees and the flap are down 35 degrees.

Also, the spoilers will pop up to their landing position of 15 degrees.

The aileron will be able to move independently."
