@speed-of-heat Hey pard, as always hope this finds you well. I recently did an fresh install of windows on a new harddrive so I'm going thru all the rig tuning in this thread and Thud4DCS's page again, but I'm a little stumped on the changing CPU priority part here:

Quote

To ensure your DCS.exe, vrserver.exe and vrcompositor.exe are working most efficiently with your CPU set their priority to High, you can do this manually, or via a script I do it via the registry, add the following keys to the registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\DCS.exe\PerfOptions

"CpuPriorityClass"=dword:00000003

adding for the other two processes replacing dcs.exe with vrserver.exe and vrcompositor.exe respectively. Mostly this has an impact on stuttering rather than on sheer perf.

I don't remember doing this last time so was hoping you could answer some questions for me. 1) Why WindowsNT path and not Windows? 2) DCS.exe doesn't appear under either path, do I add it manually with the "New > Key" option? and finally 3) is this the same as changing the priority in Task Manager but on a 'permanent' basis?

1) because its historically where it lives in the registry... there is lots in the registry that doesn't make sense

2) hence you having to add it... and yes you add the exe file name as a new key DCS.exe and inside it add Perf Options and the registry setting as a new dword value inside of Perf Options

3) yes.

Thank you sir. And yea, I get in hindsight asking if I had to ADD the dcs.exe key seems dumb, but, well, I AM dumb and I just wasn't sure if it was the

"CpuPriorityClass"=dword:00000003

I was supposed to add only and the missing dcs.exe part meant I had a problem. In short I am very smoothbrained and I thank you again for your big wrinkly brain

that's OK there are no dumb questions; just dumb people 😉 seriously ... its not obvious the registry is not meant to be played with by humans

so to make sure I got this right, under IFEO select new > Key (DCS.EXE), then under that new > key again (PerfOptions), then under THAT new > dword (32bit) and

"CpuPriorityClass"=dword:00000003

that bout right?

ok thanks, so you fly in normal/high/ultra ?

I finally resigned myself to go with 30fps fixed, even with a 3080ti 😞 on F16 I can't use FSR, MFD are unreadable with.

Strange 😞 What hardware specs do you have beside your 3080ti?
I´m on a 3090 and maxed out nearly all sliders inside DCS. I know every system is different and it depends on sooooooo  many
factors (Bios, OS, drivers, registry etc.......). Recently i tried the OpenXR route....but this isn´t the right place to discuss here,
maybe have a look iside the forums. @speed-of-heat is there and i guess he jumped on that train aswell 😉

I can't go to OpenXR because I fly with this :

and I can't use FSR because F16 MFD are really hard to read with upscaling.

I can have 45fps like @speed-of-heatwith MSAAx2, but I like would like to play MSAAx4 but sometimes it goes under 45 because of GPU, so I prefer a fix 30fps.

In others case, it goes really bad but it's because of CPU (even with 12600k) in liberation campaign, but we can't do nothing for that.

@fastf1nger could you please share your final settings and mod ? thanks

We need multicore support asap.....but hard to implement i think, otherwise ED would have done it!
Nice rig btw 😉

For me personally - The OpenXR route works best at the moment. Before i had the vr shader mod (clear water hotfix version) installed.
As mentioned above, nearly everything maxed out and followed @speed-of-heat ´s settings-guide (see first page)!! Tried out a lot
of stuff in NVCP but what brought me a huge step forward was disabling HPET and HAGS. This was the first game-changer for me
when i first started vr and tweaking around, at that point vr in dcs got....what i would call...."fluid" 😉

Yeah I tonight had my first OpenXR flight on multiplayer. Very bad experience with most of the times 9FPS or less. Will definately switch back to SteamVR for MP.

I fly an A-10C II in VR and post my DCS journey on Is your phone a YouTube Signature Device? - Gizmochina     |   Subscribe to my DCS A-10C channel

I have updated my thoughts on OpenXR , removing shaders seems to have removed the majority of my problems, so i have converted to the cult of OpenXR, the only remaining issue is a lack of vrnecksafer, but, i can likely live with that, from a measurement point of view this is hard to do, i can't find a similar logging toolset for frametime for WMR so, i am out of the of the fully measured business for a while.

I still cannot figure out the fov issue with openxr. I get a weird fisheye warped view in dcs with the quest 2. Otherwise I would use it.
