HiJack Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 There are a new video from Outerra! Amazing :D
Schnarre Aggro Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 ED devs are working on their own terrain engine. They aren't going to use a third party engine. I hope they dont "ride a dead horse"(developing a terrain engine which doesnt look as good as outerra), ... this enginething "looks" quite fancy and i would buy a flighsim with this terrain ... no matter which plane, just to have this amazing feeling/look of "flying over real land" schnarre [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] There are two types of fighter pilots - those who have, and those who will execute a magnificent break turn towards a bug on the canopy . . . . http://www.youtube.com/user/schnarrsonvomdach http://www.twitch.tv/schnarre https://www.facebook.com/pages/Schnarre-Schnarrson/876084505743788?fref=ts
GGTharos Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 Uhm, their engine will be what is needed for air combat simulation ... there's no point in comparing it with other engines until you're seen them in action in a similar context. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
EtherealN Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 The fundamental point isn't to make something look better or worse than X other product. They could make it as pretty as far cry or such stuff if they want. ...it's just that there won't be many processor cycles left for actual simulation then. ;) ED will develop a terrain engine that works well together with the other components in the simulation, both in the development sense and in the utilization of resources sense. funkee Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 Cuz I got a better display than you :P But being serious its not only chelo details but the way he moving, firing, splatter on water, sound etc. I know you like it :) [sIGPIC]http://img145.imageshack.us/img145/6720/avatarpolishairforce.png[/sIGPIC] system specs: mobo: Gigabyte GA-P35DS4 rev 2.1, CPU: Intel C2D E8400@4GHz, GPU: Nvidia 8800GTS 512, RAM: Kingston HyperX 4x 1GB 1066MHz Dual Channel, HDD: Samsung Spinpoint F1 640 GB x2, sound: Realtek Azalia ALC889A + SB Audigy + Dolby Digital/DTS external encoder/tuner, display: Asus VW222U 22', case: Raidmax Smilodon, headphones: Sennheiser HD650, stick: Saitek Cyborg Evo, Track IR4 Pro + TrackClip Pro, O/S: Windows 7/Vista x64
joey45 Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 I would probaly guess it would look 10x more better going by the standards of BS... The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. EtherealN Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 I definitely like it - in a shooter. I just don't think the sound of a chopper that you won't hear, nor detail of something that you'll only see through the Skhval, is all that important. As for sounds, you won't hear all too much of that through the helmet when DCS:Apache arrives. But all the nitpicking aside, it sure is eye/ear candy, and I hope GA gets some good material for videos when the time comes for the 64. :) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Daniel "EtherealN" Agorander | Даниэль "эфирныйн" Агорандер Intel i7 2600K @ 4.4GHz, ASUS Sabertooth P67, 8GB Corsair Vengeance @ 1600MHz, ASUS GTX 560Ti DirectCU II 1GB, Samsung 830series 512GB SSD, Corsair AX850w, two BENQ screens and TM HOTAS Warthog DCS: A-10C Warthog FAQ | DCS: P-51D FAQ | Remember to read the Forum Rules | | | Life of a Game Tester
joey45 Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 As long as it comes in British Racing Black... That is the camo we use isn't it?? I just don't think the sound of a chopper that you won't hear, nor detail of something that you'll only see through the Skhval, is all that important But I rather meant DCS: Apache than DCS: Blackshark. :) Would be the best opponent for Ka50. EtherealN Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 Yes, but my point is that in a simulator like this the eyecandy/earcandy of that style is pretty pointless. The opponent won't see all the detail, nor hear your chopper, and you yourself will mainly see the detail in the cockpit and hear those sounds that make it through your sound dampening helmet. :P It would end up being only for those times when you take a bit of an eyecandy tour with F2 while transiting in SP, or for videos, in my opinion. funkee Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 (edited) And what about close formation flights? :P It all depends on what you looking for in games, and not all the ppl prefer realism over graphics. For me external view is as important as cockpit, and this is the best apache model I've ever seen in PC game. Btw. I would invite you guys all to play Bad Company 2 beta, but forgot this is ED not EA forums ;) Edited February 16, 2010 by funkee [sIGPIC]http://img145.imageshack.us/img145/6720/avatarpolishairforce.png[/sIGPIC] system specs: mobo: Gigabyte GA-P35DS4 rev 2.1, CPU: Intel C2D E8400@4GHz, GPU: Nvidia 8800GTS 512, RAM: Kingston HyperX 4x 1GB 1066MHz Dual Channel, HDD: Samsung Spinpoint F1 640 GB x2, sound: Realtek Azalia ALC889A + SB Audigy + Dolby Digital/DTS external encoder/tuner, display: Asus VW222U 22', case: Raidmax Smilodon, headphones: Sennheiser HD650, stick: Saitek Cyborg Evo, Track IR4 Pro + TrackClip Pro, O/S: Windows 7/Vista x64

Lucas_From_Hell Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 Funkee, you're missing the point. Not everyone prefer realism over graphics - true. That's why many play Wings of Prey. However, in this case, almost everyone - we might even say "everyone but you" - prefers realism over graphics, mainly because this is a SIMULATOR, meant to simulate, and not a movie with fancy graphics. In this case, you can say external views are a concession made by the devs, as you should only have internal - after all, that's what pilots have, right? And still, why are you complaining? The DCS Apache model is excellent. Actually, all models introduced with DCS are jaw-dropping.
Boberro Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 Agree DCS model is really good, very good and maybe even great ;] Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D ಠ_ಠ ツ
