andysim Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 Anything that can do AG will be good in my books, blowin stuff up is fun. I would like a f-16 as I think DCS could do a good job with it.
Topgun505 Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 This is a tough call. On one hand I would love to see a new version of the AH-64D Longbow ... but as that is a 2 person aircraft that would be a bit awkward in order to make it high fidelity sim ... having to swap seats back and forth for gunner / pilot stations. I also love the F-14 ... but that will have the same problem as above (not to mention the F-14 is now retired from front line service if I recall). So ... single seat aircraft.... hmmm .... Not the F-16. Falcon Allied Force is a great sim. I doubt anyone is going to improve much over that. I certainly wouldn't mind seeing a new F-15 sim ... but only the C model .... not the strike eagle, as you again run in to the 2 seat problem. But the F-22 would also be a nice aircraft to model. On the Russian side of things I would be inclined to go for the Su-27/ 35. The aircraft can get a data feed from an AWACS, approach its target with its own radar off, use its IR Search & Track system to acquire the target, and blow it away with IR missiles. Unless the target is equipped with state of the art passive missile protection it would never know it is even under attack (aside from seeing the AWACS painting it on RWR) until he was going down in flames. That sounds fun. :) Topgun505 Win 11 Pro, Intel Core i9-14900kF, Gigabyte RTX 4080 Super, 128 GB DDR5, Corsair Hx1000i, Alienware 34" 2K LED, TrackIR 5 Pro, WinWing F-16EX, WinWing F-15Ex throttle, VPC Warbird rudder, Thrustmaster MFDs x3, Black Hog box.

geloxo Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 (edited) I would like to see the developement kit to allow any user to create its own aircraft or chopper for DCS. Anything else will last months/years to come... :music_whistling: but talking about the poll, I would propose an AC-130 Gunship:pilotfly: Edited April 24, 2009 by geloxo
Korvyk Posted April 25, 2009 Posted April 25, 2009 How many of these are declassified enough that modeling them in a decent sim would be possible?
EtherealN Posted April 25, 2009 Posted April 25, 2009 Not many. One of the possible ways around that though is a scenario where the developer or operator of an aircraft contracts TFC/ED for a simulation for their own purposes. It is then possible (theoretically) for TFC/ED to get permission to use the data for a commercial simulation (which does not necessarily require that the classified knowledge becomes public, depending on what the classified stuff is), possibly through offering a lower contract price for the military sim, offseting that themselves through the possible revenue from the commercial sim. Exactly how that plays out though is unknown to me and I suspect only the bosses over at TFC/ED and their military clients will ever know with absolutely certain how that goes. The real problem, I guess, is that if I was a military official working on getting some educational software for F-35 or F-22 pilots, I would be very very nervous about getting that out to the public. But if what I was working on was the F-16, where the stuff is slightly less sensitive, I might be less nervous and might even be prepared to offset my costs through authorizing the commercial sim. msalama Posted April 25, 2009 Posted April 25, 2009 The most wanted A/C for this series? The Mil Mi-24 Hind of course: hands down the baddest and meanest-looking motherf****r of an attack helicopter of all time 8) The DCS Mi-8MTV2. The best aviational BBW experience you could ever dream of.
EtherealN Posted April 25, 2009 Posted April 25, 2009 Tbh, when it comes to looking mean, I always was partial to weaponized versions of the Mi-8. (Beside the point that that's what the Mi-24 is. :P ) There's something so brutal with a regular Mi-8 with a whole stack of rocket pods strapped onto it that just says "I want to kill you so bad that I don't care if I have to jury-rig this thing to do it". :D (Not that it's a jury-rigging, but it's what it looks like.) Sentonal Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 Actually, come to reading thinking about this. the Grumann Intruder would be an interesting aircraft to do in a flight sim... But the proposed and never built A-6F Intruder II http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A-6_Intruder could have had FAR reaching effects which could be fun to explore in a flight sim. AMD Phenom 9950 @2.6GHz, HSI 4870 512M, 4GB DDR2 @533MHz, Raid 1 array (250GB), Vista x64, TrackIR 4, Saitek - EVO Force, X52, Rudder Pedals, Flight Yoke, and a FPS type game pad somewhere...
Frakin Toasters Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 F-22 raptor, blates! Alsothe Phantom II, Harrier, Strike Eagle. That's pretty much it. Perhaps the Tornado just to be a bit British. But I still do prefer the idea of helicopter studies mainly, more than aircraft.
LastRifleRound Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 F-16C Block 50/52 Performs all mission types, is largely declassified, has A/G radar so you can practice offset deliveries, complex pop-ups, new CAS software, can use LANTIRN, and is single-seat, so you don't have to make concessions in realism for accurate aircraft operation in single-player mode.

WynnTTr Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 AH-66 Commanche F-22 F-35 In fact, an integrated series geared towards ultra-modern warfare would be fantastic... There's always Hawx. Or if there's some way that data is available for these aircraft - which i'm pretty sure there isn't. If there isn't, then what you're playing may as well be Hawx, cos anything without real data won't be realistic.

nomdeplume Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 F-14D Tomcat <----------------- PLEASE :) Do something that hasn't been done in great detail, the only air combat game I got to enjoy the F-14 was in Jane's US Navy Fighters over a decade ago. I'd pay quite a bit for a detailed F-14 sim My "problem" with the F-14 is that it's only air-to-air, which isn't so bad but for the amount of time it takes to develop a realistic aircraft to the level we expect from ED it seems better to go for a multi-role fighter. There's only so much air combat I can have before I want to blow things up on the ground. Also I think for these games single-seat aircraft are a better bet, because I can't really see a realistic and worthwhile AI copilot/WO happening in these games. I could be wrong (let's hope so). I think the Harrier could be interesting too, or any other VTOL aircraft. But man oh man would I love to fly a jet with the DCS engine and flight modelling!
