Mip... Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 Hey Dudes, I read the FAQ and and some Threads here and i still have a few questions. The Engine will support Dual Core CPUs and Collidable trees and you will convert all modules to the new engine. My Question are: I not an expert in Software Engineering, but i imagine that i could get quite hard to convert a sim like Black Shark with a lot Variables and Formulas in it into a totally new engine. Will the new engine be based on the old, some way or another? Will the engine enhance the graphics of the game, or will it be the same graphics as now but with more features like collidable trees, limitless units and out of it the possibility for a dynamic campaign? I assume that the engine will require better Hardware compared to its forerunner, so will there be a fall back to the old in case my pc is for example to slow? Somewhat of a release date for the engine, like 2009 or 2010? Hope some of the questions are answerable.:D Greetings

Not in black shark My Question are: I not an expert in Software Engineering, but i imagine that i could get quite hard to convert a sim like Black Shark with a lot Variables and Formulas in it into a totally new engine. Will the new engine be based on the old, some way or another? From what i understad they have already started making the software for the next releas. 9 months after Black shake (they hope). I would suspect that the upgrade to BS will almost be a second DVD worth to convert it to new Code. Will the engine enhance the graphics of the game, or will it be the same graphics as now but with more features like collidable trees, limitless units and out of it the possibility for a dynamic campaign? That is unknown at this point I assume that the engine will require better Hardware compared to its forerunner, so will there be a fall back to the old in case my pc is for example to slow? Somewhat of a release date for the engine, like 2009 or 2010? Hope some of the questions are answerable.:D Greetings So when the update comes out in 2009 2010 and it hurts your PC to the point you cant play it. Just uninstall the whole thing deleat all files. and reinstall the oraginal BS. you will lose all saved data and wont be able to connect to anyone with the updated version. Boberro Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 I heard new engine is finished... Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D ಠ_ಠ ツ
Vekkinho Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 ^^^^^^^^ Wishful thinking! Where did U hear that?!! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
CAT_101st Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 It is posable but now they have to convert BS over to it and write the A-10a (mabe the C) to the new code as well. then work out all the bugs. 9 months easy. LazerPotatoe Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 [developer speak] I wonder if they have 2 code paths in source control, and have been checking in the Blackshark changes into both paths all along... Or maybe both engines are modular enough via interfaces, to simply plug-in the helicopter code into the new engine (unlikely). [/developer speak] Not that I really know what I'm talking about, but I don't think they would have to totally re-code the chopper portion in the new engine. LP modules: F5-E / A4-E / A-10A / AJS-37 / SA-342 / UH-1H / Ka-50 / Mi-8 / CA would buy: OH-58 /AH-64A / AH-1 / Sepecat Jaguar / F-111
RvETito Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 BS will come with modified LO engine- moved to DX 9.0c, finer terrain mesh, increased texture details etc. This is what we know so far. Mip... Posted August 31, 2008 Author Posted August 31, 2008 BS will come with modified LO engine- moved to DX 9.0c, finer terrain mesh, increased texture details etc. This is what we know so far. And i hope that wags or someone else with real knowledge give us answers to the other questions :D
EvilBivol-1 Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 We don't like to discuss details, which are not already implemented. So, don't expect to hear many details about the new engine until its development is advanced enough. In general, the new engine will be a completely new platform from the ground up, including the graphics engine, terrain, database structure, etc. However, the code written specifically for Black Shark was designed with portability in mind, so most of the relevant parts could be "moved" to the new engine with minimal recoding effort required. For example, the new mission editor is already prepared for the new engine. As mentioned before, DCS is currently running on the modified TFCSE engine and until the new engine is ready, this will continue to be the case. We can't estimate when this may happen, because developing the new engine is only one of many development tracks for ED and sometimes progress is faster than others, depending on the availability of resources and the need to ditribute programmers to other projects/contracts. 1 - EB [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Nothing is easy. empeck Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 And what about 3dp addons? If new sceneries or maybe even planes will be released for Black Shark, will they be compatible with new engine?
luckyhendrix Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 I've got a little question with compatibility , If you own DCS:BS , the new module include the A-10 and new engine ,what if you don't want A10 but only new engine with BS will it be possible via some patch or so ? or you couldn't get new engine without A-10 ? personaly I don't think anyone would spit on a brand new A-10, but who knows. :D
Yellonet Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 They said before that the engine upgrades and such would be free but that the flyables would cost. i7-2600k@4GHz, 8GB, R9 280X 3GB, SSD, HOTAS WH, Pro Flight Combat Pedals, TIR5
sobek Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 And what about 3dp addons? If new sceneries or maybe even planes will be released for Black Shark, will they be compatible with new engine? Most likely because i don't think that ED have the time to remodel all vehicles and scenery for the new engine. Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!
d0ppler Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 even though I know I will spend 90% of my virtual pilot time in choppers, I will definitely buy every flyable ED releases. AlphaOneSix Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 Bleh, I read the title and thought that Kamov was upgrading from the TV3-117VMA to the VK-2500 engine on the Ka-50. Wishful thinking. Oh, and collideable trees would be great. ;)

empeck Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 I think what empeck means is if 3rd party add-ons that have been made for the old engine will still be compatible with the new one (i.e. if ED will release rules on how to develop content so that it will be compatible with both engines) Exactly :)
213 Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 is the engine much better optimized than lomac? that game was...to say the least terrible when it came to performance.
-sulan- Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 I'd guess that ED makes things as modular as possible to be able to use code from one project in another and so forth, considering their military and commercial products are of similar nature.. But that's not an educated guess or anything :P
fireship4 Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 (edited) In the current engine are vehicles modelled with different armour values for front, back, different angles etc? If not, now that ricochets are included will we see in future the ability to bounce bullets under a vehicle to get to the more vulnerable armour? I've seen this tought somewhere for A-10s. ps are ricochets correctly modelled in regards to the change in penetration capability etc? Edited September 3, 2008 by fireship4
GGTharos Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 Guys, the new engine is probably FAR OUT still .. no point in discussing. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
