Tom Kazansky Posted April 5, 2021 Posted April 5, 2021 it is still verry much WIP i.e. 1.) last time I tried there was the same AG radar picture in level flight as in a 90° up to the sky climb. 2.) the mountains don't mask the terrain behind them correctly and extreme radar elevation positions intensify this effect. it is possible to fly low on low visibility conditions but it is not yet perfectly implemented. still WIP as I said.

Terrain Avoidance mode hasn't yet been implemented. It's not any kind of terrain 'following' mode though, more of a secondary confidence cross check. If we are to get a true simulation of all the basic radar modes then it should get added at some point. However, it's not explicitly on the roadmap, and the total lack of any comment from ED staff when the subject gets raised concerns many of us.
Oozler Posted April 5, 2021 Posted April 5, 2021 You want to scare the poop out of yourself put the autopilot on radar mode while down low and then put the auto-throttle on whatever speed setting and do it in IFR conditions.... This may not be the terrain following radar you envisage and you might blow up real good, but it is good for a thrill while it lasts. lol
Machalot Posted April 5, 2021 Posted April 5, 2021 If you want to fly low in low vis, consider trying the Viggen during the next free play period. 1 "Subsonic is below Mach 1, supersonic is up to Mach 5. Above Mach 5 is hypersonic. And reentry from space, well, that's like Mach a lot."

I am excited for this one but what @AvroLanc stated about this feature not being brought up by ED is worrying me a bit too. Does our hornet lot even have the correct software with this radar mode on it, because if it has I really don't see why it shouldn't be added (since the jf17 has that too). 1 Full fidelity su27/mig29 ?
