Installed .... and clouds started to jump, up and down a little, every time.

Did You notice this effect in VR?

  • YoYo changed the title to 2.7 - jumping clouds in VR?

It's in the patch notes as a known issue. It's currently being looked at and is a priority, lets hope they fix it soon.

  • Thanks 1

Glad to hear is a known issue; I came here to open a similar thread, and fearing this was something very specific to my settings/PC/Vr headset.

Hoepfully they will find a solution soon, is quite disturbing as of now and inmersion breaker.

The point is that the clouds move regardless of the horizon, this effect doesn't look quite good, just like clouds "placeholder".

I've played some yesterday on standard, and high preset. Couldn't say I noticed much difference, will try Ultra today. With that said I've not noticed any performance drops, and that's on Syria. The slight *judder* of the clouds is a bit annoying, but somehow my brain did get used to it after a while. Still, I hope they fix it soon as the game looks fantastic now. I've noticed new light effects as well.

I see the cloud issues and an overall out of focus look to them and the game in general. The game looks less clear and I see more AA everywhere in the G2. None of my  settings changed. Performance drop has been noticed as well. FPS drops are common on every map now. I run the Case 1 SC PG mission a lot and I was getting very stable 45fps and now it is jumping around a lot.

For me the clouds look granular/lego style in G2 on any settings (LOW to ULTRA) and with SSAO on or off. When I look in VR Zoom they suddenly look nice and smooth. This granularity, plus shaking, is a huge step back for me (((

Does the game look more grainy overall to you? Just looks like crap now in my G2 and I tried to upscale SS and nothing helps. My FPS took a dump as well. May try a full reinstall of DCS. Sometimes that helps after several updates to fix weird FPS issues for some.

I see the jumping clouds as well, and like others was somewhat underwhelmed by the clouds in VR, compared to what was shown in the trailers. It could be that this is just in VR, I haven't tried 2D yet.

However, I experienced a performance improvement, even with clouds in Ultra. In fact I figured I could up one of my settings so I'm now using shadows at the highest level and runs great.

I'm using an Index at 200% steamVR and PD 1.0.

I would try a Repair of DCS first if you have not.

Do you use SSAO in VR mode? Before (in 2.6) I dont use it also. For me it was FPS killer.

Can't say, really. I used 3Dmigoto VR mod to fix gamma in/out of cockpit, saturation and sharpness. After 2.7 this mod no longer works, so my VR looks bleak and soft. I had to boost SS and tried VR Reshade mod, but it is not flexible enough. Waiting for 3Dmigoto update, hopefully this weekend.

  • 3 weeks later...

I believe there is a way to correct this issue... the trouble is your cockpit size.

Go to VR in settings- Force IPD Distance.  I put mine to 55 forced, it made my cockpit the right size for me and at the same time corrected the clouds.  No more Jumping!!

Test it out for your system and you will  see what I mean.

Good Flying!!

PS.. Please let me know if it works for you, Thanks
