being an avid enthusiast, and eagarly awaiting the release as we all are, i have to say i am really saddened when queries about release dates get met with hostility.. official stances being along the lines of 'it will be ready when its ready' 'stop trolling' and 'deal with it'.

 

i understand that that it must be frustrating being badgered constantly,

a 'new' person popping up every few days asking the same question ect ect.

 

-but seeming that you are releasing one of the most eagerly awaited flight sims of all time it kinda comes with the territory doesnt it?

 

as developers and testers, i dont think its too hard to show common decency to people from all over the world who show nothing but adoration for your work and yes, might be getting a little impatient.

 

fortunately you have a place in the market that allows you to behave in such a way without affecting your sales figures, however in most other lines of work, it might be considered a poor approach.

 

i already know that this post is gonna be met with distain and numerous 'wind your neck in' themed comments, and then be locked soon after.

But for those of you who have asked about release dates and been met with similar (bording on arrogant) replies, dont let it spoil the release, even if the people behind it dont understand the responsibility of having a fan base.

On the contrary, i have seen no other game developer who stays in touch with it's customers this well and is at pains to serve them newest info every so often. Saying they treat their fans wrong is a little out of place IMHO. I can see no hostility in the phrases you 'quoted', what else is ED supposed to say? Even more so, i find the patience on this forum most astounding, given that these questions result in warnings or bans elsewhere.

not at all, i am a gamer across many formats, awaited games and followed development, and never have i seen warnings ar banns unless the person was being a nucience. in most cases developers take silece over anything else..

This forum is actually very well mannered compared to other forums out there. The problem comes with how a person approaches the question. When a new guy shows up and ask for the release date, we don't bash on him. We just simply tell them there is not projected release date as of this moment.

 

If someone comes in demanding for updates with expressions such as sad/angry faces, that's a bit uncalled for. That's not showing any respect. Other times the same guy ask for the release dates over and over again, that's also disrespectful because we warned him once and he continues to troll. That is where the frustration begins.

 

So I ask everyone to please think about what you say on the forums. Put yourself in the other guy's shoes and think about how your words are affecting them.

The participants of the thread you mentioned are not new to this forum, so one can assume they know how problematic uttering these questions is. Had it been a new forum member then i would have chosen other words.

 

This is actually the mildest-mannered forum i have ever seen, so i cannot understand where your concern comes from.

 

Why would i not see your point? Because i stated a different opinion? Again i have to say that devs and moderators are very forgiving in their endless referring to faqs and answering already answered questions, but that is just my 2 cents.

I also would like to see new news\screens\videos ect. But notice that really rare game developer gives so often (even if it is one per month) info about their product. IMHO I can think ED made in the past few bigger mistakes and do game so looong. But treatment to customers is really friendly like never I've seen before in any developer. Sometimes even I feel as is I would create game, or live in it, even if news, new screenshots, videos are one per month:)

 

I must admit for me also is hard sometimes still read game is in production from so long time but I understood that any nervous won't help.

This forum is one of the most friendly forums. Moderators are really patient and fast if someone breaks rules (example last days were spammers attacks lol).

There has been only one official stance on release dates - "2008." Everything else is unofficial.

 

While the urge to get the product into your hands is understandable, new guys have to also understand that many members of this forum have been waiting for this product for years already. Moreover, we have gone to great lengths to disseminate product information on the forum. There is FAQ and a Q&A thread stuck at the top. It isn't unreasonable to ask new members to at least read through the FAQ to get themselves oriented to the general information. If they do, there should be no need to ask about release dates.

just ED could use a bit more diplomacy in my opinion. just it is far better to read "we are confident for last two months of 08" or "we expect to have ironed out everything in 3 months time" or even a comment like "most probably you will recieve the manual within the time period of X untill Y, unless something new pops up".

 

just i can understand the dev behaviour, but its not good really. memebers over react for sure, but its like asking your GF when she will be done with her makeup and she answers "when its done!"

Any of you guys that keep asking when it'll be done and why its taking so long also anticipate release of Battle of Britain - Storm of War (sequel to IL-2 series)? I've stopped playing IL-2 for well over 3.5 years and before I stopped playing it there war work already started in BoB SoW... and just recently have they said this sim is now expected end summer of 2009. So do the math here and you'll see this equvalent to at least 5 years for release for that sim...

 

Now also ED has stated time and time again that they are still hopping and probably expecting for BlackShark to be released end of 2008... if all goes well you're not looking at much more waiting.. and still give or take few extra months you're still very likely to get it late 2008, maybe early 2009... is this so long? When was BlackShark being started working on? How much time did it pass till then?

 

I admit comparing BlackShark and WWII sim BoB SoW is not the same as there will be lot more flyable aircraft in BoB SoW but then again there is much less coding to be done for aircraft that have no radar, jammers, missiles etc... what I'm aiming at is that for a good product such as BS or BoB SoW it takes time... and ED have been frank with how things are progressing on their end. There have been many video's or working systems, avionics, engine startup... the scenery in video looks pretty good... all the advance physics coded into flight modelling etc...

 

Why not keep bit more patience... it's not like you paid ED money already and they haven't delivered their product, right? You buy the game when it's being completed and offered on the market.
