@BIGNEWY Thanks for the Leap motion integration, I have a question, now we have a new setting that modifies the hand's vertical position, but for me , I will need also to move the horizontal position, I means, I use Vr on my desktop, so my hotas, keyboard and mouse are close on the desk and close to the monitor screen, when I extend my arm to touch any panel button in almost every plane, my fingers collides with monitor, desk or something else before y can even get the finger close to the panel in VR, (my solution is to move vr view to be closer to the aircraft's front panel, but breaks my inmersion) so i parked my leap motion sensor, but If you can implement also the horizontal display of my hands  I would be able to use my fingers without touching anything else. Waiting for this .

Thanks a lot for your great work.

A Z-depth offset would be incredibly useful if it's possible to implement without breaking everything else 🙂

Unfortunately, it is still the case that my virtual hand does not reappear when I move the stick or throttle (setting "Hands do not move the hotas ").

And sometimes a hand appears at the top left or right of the screen when I move my head in the cockpit. This is new since 2.8

Now the glow of the hands is gone in the night.
But now the hands are so dark that you don't even know where you are tapping.
How you do it, you do it wrong 🤪

Maybe there is something in between...

Hi,

how to turn off the hand tracking "laser pointers"? I'm using leap motion gemini 5.7.2?

I can't find a setting in the software or DCS itself. I copied the updated leapC.dll to the bin DCS\bin folder.

@edmuss you made hint on that in another thread yesterday.

Pls help 🙂

In the latest open beta (2.8), ED moved the setting for the laser pointers to the VR tab, I think perhaps the same functionality is shared to the VR controllers?

I don't think you need to copy the leapC.dll any more, I haven't done so for months now and it's all worked fine.

There is still some flakiness with the leap not initialising when DCS starts or the laser pointer settings being retained, frustrating that you need to reset it each time but not the end of the world!

Indeed, it would be incredibly useful. Especially where people are sat at desks preventing them from reaching the virtual world panels. Is there nothing in the leap software settings that might help?

I know it varies from plane to plane, but how far away from the desk you need to be in general?

I have my HOTAS on monstertech desk supports, is that enough?

One last question: Regarding the laser pointer, does it works similarly to the Oculus controllers? I love the oculus controllers TBH, but they are unusable when you also have to hold the HOTAS at the same time.

I have approximately 2 foot from the front of my shoulder to the closest point of the desk and that's enough gap to be able to reach all of the forward controls on the A10 and KA50.

I'm unfortunately constrained on the left hand side (to the outside and rear of the A10 throttle and some of the centre console/overheads of the Huey) simply because I'm flying in a cupboard😁 Similarly the rear right panel on the KA50 can be difficult to get. Everything in the forward arc is dead easy though.

The ultraleap software relies on the contrasting outline of the hands being defined, if it can't cleanly detect the outline against an IR reflecting surface then it'll struggle to keep all the fingers tracked.

I had all sorts of issues until I covered my desk with the self adhesive foam sheet, that simple change resulted in almost perfect tracking.

I covered my monitor and desk with foam sheets, and that made things better within DCS, but still not as good as I see in the visualizer, or what I see in some DCS videos.  I’ll keep messing with it.

Ultraleap had a booth at I/ITSEC this week. I did their demos using a Stereo IR 170 and it worked so much better than what I see at home within DCS. They did say the 170 is just a FOV improvement over the Motion Controller.

I tried a couple other vender demos that  used the 170, and they worked well also.

I used closed cell foam, not sure what rubber it is but I would suspect it being EPDM. As long as it absorbs the IR light then it's good, you can also get light absorbing cloth that Dan@ultraleap recommended but as it was I had the foam in stock and it worked.

Things like your clothing can cause interference as well although I generally find that none of the controls are directly above my legs.

Every couple of months I try out how good hand tracking has become so far with LeapMotion which I own since a couple of years now. So far I have always been impressed initially and really wanted to make the switch but there's always been a catch which in the end made me jump back to my current standard (currently I use a combination of physical mouse and mouse buttons mapped to my HOTAS together with head movement)

A few days back I stumbled across a Video made by Juan Pedro Fisanot and since then I've been testing his recommendations. This finally made me "take the leap". I'm really happy with my setup now. Still, the tracking quality isn't always the best and rotary buttons are a "no, no". But it really helps me to overcome the quirks.

In a nutshell: use the mappings to enable / disable the hands to only show them when required. I didn't know these mappings existed. And he recommends to use it in combination with the open source tool "fingers" (https://github.com/glenmurphy/fingers/releases/tag/v0.9.3) mentioned some time ago in this thread so that you always have a proper tool for each situation. But see for yourself and enjoy trying it out.

Leap motion supports openxr natively, there's an option within the Gemini drivers for openxr support. I don't think there's ever been a requirement of steamvr to actually use leap motion in DCS.

Just tried it again after watching the latest videos, my RH disappears and never comes back until I restart DCS, its now back in the box again, as i have found no fix

Posted

Enter the settings and disable and re-enable the check in the special tab for the leap.

I have the same problem and the only solution I found was to activate the use of the stick and obviously to not have control problems disable the display of the hand when I have the real hand on the stick.

I really wish the hiding of the hands with control input could be disabled as an option. As a work around try setting a slight deadzone on your stick, it only needs to be a tiny unit to hide the hand.

@BIGNEWYcould you possibly pass the above option onto the team? It's something of a superfluous mechanism now that we can manually disable each hand individually🙂

As said in other post, @BIGNEWY, it will be a great improvement to be able to move the hands in the z axis (like now with the y axis), so for people like me that are playing desktop  VR and controllers mounted in my desktop table could reach buttons without touching our monitors .

Thanks for all your efforts. Could you suggest this to the "dev team"...?

I use Leap Motion without PointCtl only in ED aircraft.
Unfortunately, third-party vendors do not support Leap Motion. In these airplanes, I use Leap Motion and PointCtl at the same time in such a way that I only display the virtual hands through Leap Motion.
This gives me a better feeling when clicking switches in the cockpit with PointCtl.
Did this help you?
