DucS2r Posted July 17, 2021 Posted July 17, 2021 I started with RC1 last night and wondered what I had done wrong. Switched to the alpha and I get the performance improvement without much of an increase in shimmering, but enough of a degradation in clarity that I went back to just Kegety’s and the Reshade mod. Thanks for the tip, Sr. I’ll try those settings later today. i9 14900, RTX 4090 24GB G DDR6X, 2x2 TB SSDs, 64GB Dual Channel DDR5 5200MT/s, Pimax Crystal Light

speed-of-heat Posted August 11, 2021 Posted August 11, 2021 V 1.1 release FidelityFX SuperResolution for SteamVR games v1.1 Repository: fholger/openvr_fsr · Tag: fsr_v1.1 · Commit: 885ebc2 · Released by: fholger Changelog: Fixed projection center for the radius application of FSR. The radius where FSR is applied should now give proper stereo overlap on all headsets. Added a debugMode option that, when enabled, visualizes the FSR radius and also periodically logs the GPU cost of the FSR application. Be a bit more conservative when overriding sampler LOD bias. Might (or might not) prevent some rendering issues when applyMipBias is enabled. I turn the FSR sharpen off, the frametime gain allows me to run 4x MSAA depending on the cloud layer involved, I've run it at 2x and it looks fine too. 1 Ryzen 7 5800X3D | 64GB DDR4 3600| MSI RTX 4080 16GB Ventus 3X OC | Samsung 970 Evo 2TB NVME | Quest 3 | Logitech X-56 throttle | VKB NXT Premium | Win 11 "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic." --Arthur C Clark
Digitalvole Posted August 12, 2021 Posted August 12, 2021 Does one need to turn up the msaa in order to get a decent image? And if so does that gobble up the FPS gains of the mod?
speed-of-heat Posted August 12, 2021 Posted August 12, 2021 i run at MSAAx2 image looks good to me , i also turn off the sharpening (set it to 1.0) in config. but it it takes about 5 mins to test. I like the color and contrast options available via the reshade plugin, but then have FSR going as well for a little upscaling (renderScale = 1.1). I use the sharpening in both (openvr_mod.cfg sharpness = .75, then the LumaSharpen reshade filter on top of that) as the extra contrast helps me with spotting, especially ground targets. Thanks, I'll have to try a higher renderScale, .77 was worse than not using it at all. What value do you use for your reshade sharpen?

If I understand correctly how this magical tool from fholger works, it downscales the image to the value specified in the config (*renderScale*) then upscales it back to 1.0 using AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution algorithm (only in a defined radius around the center, the rest is upscaled with the good old linear algorithm). So, setting *renderScale* to 1.0 effectively disables the AMDFSR magic, and setting it to more than 1.0 is pretty useless, or maybe even detrimental. But please correct me, I may be wrong. Digitalvole Posted August 22, 2021 Posted August 22, 2021 Oh this one is a conundrum, at first I was really impressed. The perf boost is great but I do not like what it does to the mfds or the clouds (set to standard, ultra is fine but then I lose the performance boost.) Everything else looks fine but those two things are a bit of a dealbreaker for me. But I can see this being great for warbird flying so I’m going to keep it for that. just my 2 pence worth.

Hello. What this library is doing is simple : give a lower than steamVR resolution target to the game, then upscale game ouput to steamVR resolution target and apply sharpen filter to the whole image, because upscaling process mqy create a slight blurr. Why do you win fps ? Because DCS will compute its output at lower resolution than without this library. Will you loose details ? Yes if the resolution given to DCS by the library is lower than your HMD resolution. Will it increase shimmering ? Yes because sharpen filter is prone to create shimmering, and it will be applyed on whole image. When should I not use it ? If you are not using SS do bot use it, because DCS will compute at lower resolution and you will loose details. Should I use SS with this library ? Yes, it's the main pupose : "low cost SS", because it's done after game rendering, by aglobal image processing. Should I use reshade with this library ? No if you are using sharpen only, because it incluses on sharpen filter. Is it compatible with VRneckSafer that includes also a openVR library ? Yes, you just have to overwrite the one of DCS, not the one of VRNeckSafer. Personally, I prefer to not use this library sharpen filter (option set to 0) and use my mod sharpen, because I can set up diferent settings for MFD, HUD, cockpit, external.
