Hi,

In the Dcs F18 module, is it possible to change the default settings of the Mfd's depending on whether you are in Nav/Ag/Aa?

Why do I want to do this? I

'm using Helios, with a 7-inch touchscreen, right now, I have it set to look the right MFD... But that I can see easily in the view of the cabin. The one I have the most trouble seeing, is the central one that is out of the normal view... The idea would be that that MFD, was the one you see on the touch screen with Helios, and with which I can interact easily, with the tactile screen

That's why I wanted to change what you see by default in MFDs, depending on the mode... Since I'm interested in seeing the radars on the touchscreen, in Ag/Aa modes and the Hsi in Nav mode. Having to change it every time you change mode is little fun and involves a time that in a combat situation you don't have

Thanks

There was another thread about this in here somewhere where someone stated that although you are not able to program the DDI's, they shouldn't change on their own, meaning that every time you enter a mode it should be the same as it was when you left it.

Dunno if that's true or not.

The LDDI and MPCD shouldn't change at all with any mode change. Only the RDDI should switch to the RDR ATTK page, upon entering A/A mode.

Furthermore, assuming that the corresponding display cannot be assigned the TDC, SCS Left should bring up the STORES page in NAV and A/G (not implemented) and the AZ/EL page in A/A (implemented) on the LDDI. SCS Right should bring up the RDR ATTK page on the RDDI in all modes (implemented).

Almost. If you have the HSI on the right, SCS right will toggle between HSI and SA. I guess i shouldn't.

Gotcha.

Just a question:

You say that mode change shouldn't change the LDDI, then what happens when going from A-A to A-G if you have AZ/EL selected?

Good question. Since AZ/EL is only available in A/A, then yeah, you'll lose that one and you'll probably go to TAC. Same goes for any page that is mode-specific.

Getting rid of the unnecessary page changes when entering A/A or A/G will help a lot, especially when doing air-to-ground work. IRL, MSI processing stops in A/G and you only have RWS available, so it's common practice to prepare everything in NAV, while MSI still works and you can maintain better SA and then switch to A/G when you're ready to attack. If you do that in DCS right now, you'll mess up your displays as soon as you enter A/G.

I've been spending a lot of time flying the Viper recently. One thing I noticed is that when you go into something like A2G mode you can choose pages on the MFD and they stay when you exit. Does the Hornet have anything like this? Right now im just changing the pages back to my "Navigation preference" after going into A2A or A2G mode

No, but the logic should be better than what it is in DCS.

From a non-assignable format you can use SCS to cue Attk on the RDDI, HSI/SA on AMPCD, and AZ/EL on the LDDI in A/A. However RDR AZ/EL, FLIR AZ/EL, and Stores are all HOTAS accessable in A/A.

AZ/EL will only invoke on the left DDI with the SCS if the current display on the left DDI cannot accept the TDC (e.g. STORES, FPAS, etc.). If you're running HSI/SA or FLIR on the left DDI, you'll have to select AZ/EL manually from the TAC menu.

My understanding is that the LDDI isn't supposed switch to any page when A/A Master Mode is commanded (couldn't find anything regarding it one way or the other in the docs I have, but it could be in a different one), however in DCS the FLIR page is invoked automatically when entering A/A master mode with a targeting pod loaded.

Just thought of something, have you checked the Mission Computer logic doc?

Technically, the menu is also a page that cannot accept Priority. So, if you want to jump from a page that can accept Priority to AZ/EL on the Left DDI in A/A, or the Radar page on the Right DDI, a slight shortcut is to hit the Menu button on that DDI and then SCS towards it.

Probably doesn't save any time if you're mousing, but with physical MFDs or a touchscreen it can be a bit faster.

^^^^ this. Hoping that one day it gets fixed. The current logic is not accurate for the aircraft operator and year stated.
