I've seen screenshots showing the issue. It looked even worse during my flight. Sometimes the only lights at 5000 ft almost overflying Las Vegas was the crescent of the Las Vegas Motorway or some other sports object. I'm not going to waste my time splitting a hair over this. Worse or same - the night city lights in this map are broken.

I really hope we will see a refurbished and extended NTTR map. Even it will cost some bucks it will be the update worth. When the map was released it was a new standard in map technology but now it is very outdated!

Nevada is one of my favorite map, Nellis feels like a second home to me, and the neon-lit decadence of Vegas never fails to thrill me, as for the Container… well, that’s the stuff of Dreamland. (LOL wwwwwwww

 

However, NTTR in DCS, is fading memories of an era, tears of the times...

Maybe certain features, yes, like high res mesh, but we're in the lighting thread and I'm sure because lighting visibility is just a number in the config and dynamic lights work independently of the map used.

Although I agree with you in principle If it’s so easy than why hasn’t it been added almost 4 years after PG?

Because their project manager selected other priorities for the team to work on. I try to avoid saying how easy it is to do though.

Yes I can read but I'm sorry referencing a response from 2022 ....3 years ago with no updates on status since isn't valid, at least to me. 

Anyway, based on your responses to me this morning if it's so easy to add the lighting like you are insinuating ED not having it added to the NTTR map by now is ridiculous, other priorities or not. 

ED can't get timely updates to Iraq or Afghanistan out, no way we're getting any updates to the NTTR map.

I get you want more and would like to see the lighting update, when time allows we will have updates, and we are looking at the requests for an expanded area, but currently its not planned.

but it is not abandoned, it is feature complete, there is a difference and I don't think claiming it is abandoned is fair.

Better ground clutter like on Afghanistan map would be appreciated too.

The ground clutter in general has a lot of room for improvement, especially given the capabilities of modern hardware. I'd say the visibility range for ground clutter needs to double/triple at the very least, and ideally also be visible from a higher altitude.

When you have a map that has CITIES invisible in the blackness of a cloudless night I think it's a clear indicator of a map being abandoned. And honestly I don't understand the tendency to shrug such situations off. We've been through this with the F-5E. It hasn't seen any work (or no work topped with working features being broken with time) for what was what, years? And the situation got better not through denial (although attempts were made) but through actually delivering an update to the module, along with heaps of long-time bug fixes.

NTTR is the second-oldest terrain (the oldest of all maps using new terrain tech, as Caucasus is a hybrid of new and old). Since the release of a map, improvements and changes to how maps are made have been introduced, making it much more complex to go back and make changes the older the map. 

Even with that, it clearly states in Wags' video that the goal is to revisit these maps, but your use of abandoned is simply wrong. Nobody is shrugging it off, we literlay said we want to revisit when the schedule opens up, we do not have unlimited dev time. Please watch Wags' video again, it should make sense if you do. Thanks.

OK, so not 'abandoned'. Merely left broken. I'm not so good with euphemisms. To me the 'left broken' changes into 'old but healthy' WHEN 'fix not planned' changes into 'fix planned'.

Can I ask how many other 8 year old maps (or similar DLC) related to other programs are still getting updates (beyond what may be needed to keep them backward compatible)?

Lots of programs have had updates or new "maps" introduced in that kind of timeline that look and perform better and rarely have they gone back and updated the old one.

🙂 but this is ED we are talking about, so we can make any unreasonable demand that strikes our imagination, like asking for a map to be rebuilt as an "update" ie at no extra cost to the customer, or else the map will be tagged as "abandoned" … the fact that it works on the current version of DCS is incidental and it does not prevent it from being called "abandoned"

I was talking about a specific bug (effectively limiting the map to daytime operations) and you are talking about rebuilding a map.

No, exaggerating don't help the case, but making excuses (either from other users or CMs) don't help it either. Somehow Caucasus got the extended range lighting treatment shortly after PG. We also don't see any bug fixing for Nevada.
