...Do I still need a Steam Account for downloading the WMR software, or can I get it somewhere else? I have Windows 11 and it seems it is not installed by default...

Thanks, Thomas

No need for steam at all, openxr for WMR is on the MS store, open composite and openxr toolkit are on GitHub.

OpenXR Toolkit - (Do it!)

5) If the game fails to launch after the installation of OpenXR Toolkit then please see here: https://mbucchia.github.io/OpenXR-Toolkit/troubleshooting.html#missing-visual-c-system-component

I noticed that this package is mandatory if you do a clean Windows 11 22H2 installation. Without this DCS doesn't open in VR mode and OpenXR Developers Tools Demo Scene not working.

First of all, many thanks to Nikoel for creating this post and and keeping it updated, I am sure it took (and still takes) a lot of time.

Everything worked fine for me, without any hassles.

However, I noticed that the performance with my new Reverb GT2 is worse than with my old Oculus Quest 2 (running with Oculus software). With the Quest 2, I had stable 45 frames (AWS turned on), with the Reverb, frames drop down to 30 quite often - using the same DCS settings of course. Seems that Quest is doing a better job with the VR drivers, since the screen resolution between the 2 headsets is not so much different.

I wonder if some else here has the same experience?

Cheers, Thomas

You are driving about tripple or so the pixels with the G2, than the quest 2...

Q2=1832 x 1920= 3517440

G2=3124 x 3056= 9546944

according to HP, the resolution is 2160 x 2160 (per eye)

No, the panel resolution is 2160 per eye, the render resolution to account for lense distortion is closer to 3200 wide (2160x1.477), set the render resolution to 2160 wide and it looks terrible.  Don't ask why the render resolution on the G2 was far higher than it was on the G1 when they both use 2160 panels but the resolution when set by steam supersampling and openxr resolution overrides at 100% has been confirmed by HP tech to be correct at 3100ish wide.

Probably a stupid question, before OpenXR to run DCS with my G2 I must use SteamVR and so to see the performance I have and use fpsVR.

But now that (luckily) I can rund DCS only with WMR what software I can use similar to fpsVR?

Thank.

Either use the performance overlay in openxr for WMR or the overlay in the toolkit (or both if you so desire).  The toolkit does performance logging now though so you can more reliably benchmark 🙂

Any idea why msi afterburner display overlay doesn’t work with oxr? Like in the monitor vr window.

Because it can't inject into the vr compositor probably. What is it you're wanting to check?

Well edmuss, the other week I wanted to do some undervolting with my gpu while DCS was running and with my G2 off my head and looking and tweaking watching on the monitor kinda like benchmarking with DCS. Use to do it with steamvr with my other machine. Now the detached graph works but not monitoring display feature.

I used heaven benchmark to do exactly that, it's DX11 so a pretty good analogue for DCS but more repeatable and easy to record/tweak/set.

Over a couple of hours of benching I got the sweet spot of 875mv with a core offset enough to hold 1860ish boost clocks and +1200 on the VRAM. Even if I ramped the voltage right up it still couldn't hold the boost much higher so save the heat, energy and noise and it's a nice consistent high clock.

Yeah I have and used Heaven Benchmark also but I was really just wondering why msi/af doesn’t show the monitoring display. I’m gonna do alittle tweaking this weekend I’m not really having any issues as far a temps/freq and perf but this tweaking stuff with numbers and performance is getting kinda fun really. Thanks as always👍🏻

I no longer use the shader mods simplex/kegetys, i do use 3dmigoto  to turn off tree shadows as well as

https://forum.dcs.world/applications/core/interface/file/attachment.php?id=185130

which essentially gives me medium shadows  in the cockpit and my own plane casts as shadow, but others dont unless very close to you (only works in the cockpit view)

thanks for answer

you use 3d midgoto to remove shadows AND the mod you linked for reducing impact (I already use it, but to be sure)

I use it for:

1) Haze reduction

2) shadow removal

3) cbu fix

4) glass reflection removal

5) rotor removal for the apache

I need to measure the full impact, but some of it is situational, some of it is cosmetic.

Last time I checked I was getting quite an FPS-hit with 3dMigoto, so stopped using it because my FPS tended to drop below 20 on our groups busy NTTR map. The CBU-issue is still not fixed? What is the Apache rotor removal? Is that giving an FPS advantage?

I think it's more to alleviate the reprojection artifacts associated with openxr and helo rotors, could be wrong though🙂
