Minsky Posted June 12, 2022 Posted June 12, 2022 (edited) Made this for another project, thought others might find it useful. What we currently have: - 26 named aerodromes and FOBs across the map; - 26 unmarked grass/dirt airstrips on Falklands; What's missing (compared to the real world -- NOT to Razbam's promises): - About eight unmarked airstrips and one helipad on Falklands; - About two "proper" paved aerodromes on mainland; - Dozens of unmarked airstrips and helipads on mainland (many of them are literally patches of dirt in the middle of nowhere). Download mission file: sa100323.miz EDIT: Post updated for DCS 2.8.3.37556 Open Beta - 10.03.2023 Edited March 11, 2023 by Minsky 7 9 Dima | My DCS uploads

YoYo Posted June 12, 2022 Posted June 12, 2022 (edited) Ohhh wow, nice work, thx. I hope only - if Razbam terrain team will take somethng from the list they will work on performance and optimalization before (minimum 50% better) because this list will kill this map on low level flight at current stage . Northstar98 Posted June 12, 2022 Posted June 12, 2022 A decent chunk of the grass strips on the islands themselves are there, with 3D objects, they're just unmarked on the map. The grass on said grass strips could do with some work though. 1 Modules I own: F-14A/B, F-4E, Mi-24P, AJS 37, AV-8B N/A, F-5E-3, MiG-21bis, F-16CM, F/A-18C, Supercarrier, Mi-8MTV2, UH-1H, Mirage 2000C, FC3, MiG-15bis, Ka-50, A-10C (+ A-10C II), P-47D, P-51D, C-101, Yak-52, WWII Assets, CA, NS430, Hawk. What are Razbam's plans for airfields though? We don't necessarily get everything on a given map. The Hormuz map is missing some major airfields, which I guess is fine if that was the intention all along, but it means that we can't necessarily tie progress to the percentage of airfields modeled. 18 hours ago, TAIPAN_ said: Nice, do you have anything like this for the other maps? I'm fairly sure they've said that at least the paved airports will get done. They've already done a load of grass strips on the islands themselves (they just aren't marked on the map). 11 hours ago, Exorcet said: The Hormuz map is missing some major airfields, which I guess is fine if that was the intention all along, but it means that we can't necessarily tie progress to the percentage of airfields modeled. True, the Caucasus is also missing Marnueli AB, Poti and Queen Tamar/Mestia. The former is the primary airbase for the Georgian Air Force. 11 hours ago, Exorcet said: Use map mode in the mission editor. Northstar98 Posted June 13, 2022 Posted June 13, 2022 (edited) To add to the OP, here are the list of aerodromes on islands themselves. Apart from Port Stanley, RAF Mount Leastant and San Carlos FOB, they're all grass/dirt strips, which look to have no/next to no services. Key: Green: Fully/nearly completed with 3D objects (though bear in mind that some do have inaccuracies, all of the grass strips need the grass tweaked as well as being marked on the map). Orange: mostly complete, but a fair bit missing. Usable (at least to an extent). Red: only a satellite texture (usually you can see the white runway edge markings) or otherwise unusable or not present. Purple: Indeterminate - in cases where airstrips are marked on RL charts but their exact location is unknown/nothing can be seen on satellite imagery/no permanent features visible (in the latter 2 cases, there might be nothing for developers to implement). Bold: Airports/airbases with paved runways I'll be including the camera position, if you want to use it, copy the camera position and press whatever you've got set as you "Load camera position from clipboard" bind (default is RAlt + RCtrl + .) East Falkland: Bleaker Island (north): -camera 32.757283 0.854043 20.613596 -cameradir 0.000000 -1.000000 0.000000 Bleaker Island (south) (there are alignment issues with one of the runways though): -camera 30.400033 1.108067 21.123494 -cameradir 0.000000 -1.000000 0.000000 (this is supposedly unusable IRL - thanks Minsky). Cape Dolphin (appears to be a gravel/clay pad for 2 adjacent buildings - indicated on a circa 1988 chart as a soft-surface minor aerodrome, but actually appears to be a helipad): -camera 126.203582 0.270116 19.236162 -cameradir -0.000000 -1.000000 -0.000000. Indicated on a circa 1988 chart) Johnson's Harbour (exact location unknown, possibly here? Indicated on circa 1988 chart as a soft-surface minor aerodrome) There's nothing here though so maybe it's completely improvised with no permanent features. In most cases they're marked with small white rocks, but said rocks disappear at <1 km away and given the textures and in some cases, lack of vegetation, some of them are incredibly difficult to spot. To summarise 31/50, aerodomes (62%) on the islands are present in a usable state, with the remainder either not present at all, not usable, or yet to be determined (though if the indetermined ones are correct as-is, that bumps the total to 31/42 (~74%). Nealius Posted August 17, 2022 Posted August 17, 2022 Finally some good bush flying! It's good to see many of them got smoothed out. I found one or two of them on initial release but the strips were so rough they would flip anything daintier than a Yak.
Minsky Posted August 24, 2022 Author Posted August 24, 2022 Three new airfields have been added in DCS 2.7.17.29140 Open Beta - 24.08.2022: - El Calafate, Argentina - Puerto Natales, Chile - Puerto Williams, Chile No other changes, no new unmarked airstrips. Updated map and miz file in the first post. 2 4 Dima | My DCS uploads
Baco Posted August 24, 2022 Posted August 24, 2022 So Pto. Natales was not announced and we are missing Santa Cruz as per announced. "New - Added Airfield Aeropuerto de Santa Cruz New - Added Airfield Aeropuerto Guardiamarina Zanartu(Puerto Williams) New - Added Aerodromo Guardiamarina Zanartu (Puerto Williams) New - El Calafate" Cool grate variety so far... Personally hoping Santa Cruz, Luis Piedra Buena and O´higgins are next. 1
Northstar98 Posted August 19, 2024 Posted August 19, 2024 Added: Cape Dolphin Fitzroy* Green Patch* Horseshoe Bay* Johnson's Harbour* Port Louis* Rincon Grande* Sedge Island* Swan Island* Walker Creek Westpoint Island Bleaker Island (north) marked as present Note: Aerodromes marked with an asterisk are marked on a circa 1988 tactical pilotage chart, but exact location is unknown and nothing could be seen in satellite imagery. I'll include them for the sake of completion, but will be separately coloured to indicate that there's potentially nothing for developers to do. 2 Modules I own: F-14A/B, F-4E, Mi-24P, AJS 37, AV-8B N/A, F-5E-3, MiG-21bis, F-16CM, F/A-18C, Supercarrier, Mi-8MTV2, UH-1H, Mirage 2000C, FC3, MiG-15bis, Ka-50, A-10C (+ A-10C II), P-47D, P-51D, C-101, Yak-52, WWII Assets, CA, NS430, Hawk.
