I always fly on VR but it looks it happen on 2D and VR. Already did a clean of fxo and metashader folder, it makes no difference.

  • Secondary shadows option makes no difference.
  • Shadows on high quality
  • Instant mission of Viper on ramp start at Caucasus so no new lights on airfields should apply

Terrain objects shadow to default, normal behaviour:

Terrain objects shadow to flat, it still looks like default:

Terrain objects shadow to off, on airfields it still work like default but now you can see the shadows through planes and structures, even through the cockpit:

So theres a problem with flat shadows and maybe at off

Jupp, I have terrain shadows on flat (as always) but somehow they are a mess. Some render, some don't, some look weird.

Same here

Strange shadows behaviour in several maps (Caucasus, Syria) & several aircrafts (AV8B, F14...)

Vanilla install.no mods, only workarounds I found Is SETTINGS -> TERRAIN SHADOWS -> (FLAT or DEFAULT)  🤔

The broken terrain shadows may be the reason for noticeably worse performance in VR. It's like the default "smooth" terrain object shadows can never be turned off unless you turn off the shadows completely using the option in the left column in the settings menu.

That was i think, that a big part of the worse performance its for people like me that was using flat shadows on terrain objects, now we are forced to use default.

It surprise me how a so obvious bug like this, that happen on VR and 2D wasnt found before the launch of the update or maybe they found and cant be addressed on time, in that case at least i have expected a note on changelog

Dumb question to anyone this is happening to; did you ensure FXO/Metashaders folders were cleared out?

 

There are reports it isn't happening to everyone which seems like there's some sort of weird culprit in here.

Cmon, i already told on the first line of the topic...

And it doesnt happen to all cause it only happens if you have terrain objects shadow on off for the bug seeing the shadow through the object or if you set as flat, that works exactly same as default (i already explained too)

Not surprised at all because they’ve never had enough internal testers and I for one as a DCS flier since 1995 have volunteered my time repeatedly over the years.

Unable to enforce flat shadows, plus an awful lot of aliasing is happening when shadows are rendered over building in major cities 

I also noticed some long range focus change

Finally had a chance to update (flight group forced me). I am one of the people not experiencing this bug. Shadows do however appear very different (SUPER detailed compared to what they were). They are however disappearing at a pretty short (if I were to guess 100ish ft) range.

Images for comparisons.

Nvidia Control Panel is all defaults other than an adjusted max FPS (hence the no vsync)

As always I ensure FXO and metashaders are deleted (this time they oddly did not), and then rip through the encyclopedia and ME to cache all of the maps and vehicles.

With Terrain Shadows set to Default, I notice some strangeness around the shadow of the canopy.  The fuzzy shadow of the canopy on the ground in the first image seems to be happening to the tail section shadow as well.

In the second images, the shadows on the vertical services seem ok.
