drdogris Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 (edited) I've been playing flight sims since 1980 and this is the best one I've ever played. I hooked this bad boy to my really LOUD 5.1 system, x52 pro stick and fast cpu. I had a blast from the word go. I like the spirit of a game that promotes the notion of educating you. The tutorials were great and soon I was going through the start up in no time at all. Getting combat techniques down is going to take a LONG time for me, but it's so dam fun I don't care! I love how real this game plays, looks, and sounds. The explosions felt great and it almost feels like bullets hitting the Ka50 really happened. I had this thing pegged on my system and Jesus my ears hurt, but they hurt so good... Thank you to those who made this brilliant masterpiece... Bobcat Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 I don't know about the "best ever..." but my opinion is that it's up there with all the classics; IL2, Falcon4, F18 etc all of which had their strengths and weaknesses.
Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 I would say it's the best ever rotary wing simulator.
fox_111 Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 If that game get patched and expanded a little, I see it being placed #1 of rotary simulation.
strannick Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 As a canadian commercial helo pilot, and an avid flight simmer, this is hands down, easy, no contest, THE BEST of the bunch. FSX Allied Force Lock On, all of them, are in a seperate class compared to this beauty.
strannick Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 cont. Ive been a member of this forum for more than 3 years, and I have periodically tuned in to bitch about the delay, and now I dare say it was worth it. It is laudable that someone would take the time and make the effort to pursue such a unique project. It is indeed, as the first poster put it, a masterpiece.
spyda Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 i agree best Sim ive played, any one remember a10 cuba? that was very good in the day as well but BS has reset the bench mark for my standards:thumbup: HP TouchSmart IQ816 / 25.5" HD touch screen / 9600GS 512/ Core 2 Duo 2.16 / 4GB RAM / VISTA 64 / CH Fighterstick
MrReynolds Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 As a simulation of an aircraft it's up there with the fully patched F4 in my book.:D
Teapot Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 ... it almost feels like bulluts hitting the Ka50 really happened. It is indeed, as the first poster put it, a masterpiece. Hope they get rid of them bulluts before they bring the Tornado as a flyable on the scene! :P Mind you ... it calls into question how high fidelity DCS BS really is! As I hear it among my military contacts, info about bulluts is still highly classified ... so ED, where are you getting your modeling data, hey!? :D Cheers! 1 "A true 'sandbox flight sim' requires hi-fidelity flyable non-combat utility/support aircraft." Wishlist Terrains - Bigger maps Wishlist Modules - A variety of utility aircraft to better reflect the support role. E.g. Flying the Hornet ... big yawn ... flying a Caribou on a beer run to Singapore? Count me in. Extracting a Recon Patrol from a hastily prepared landing strip at a random 6 figure grid reference? Now yer talking!
msalama Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Yep, the best there is, and only getting better with additional A/C. Not that the Shark alone isn't more than enough for my money though, because I just love this baaad baby all by itself! Thank you ED for this absolute masterpiece - just great to see someone releasing a serious study sim again :) Now if someone only came up with a WWII addon for this... ;) The DCS Mi-8MTV2. The best aviational BBW experience you could ever dream of.
d0ppler Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 .. Now if someone only came up with a WWII addon for this... ;) Or a Vietnam addon with fully modeled UH-1 ! But I have to agree, this sim is the best thing happened to the flight sim community in a very, very, very long time! Keep up the excellent work ED, we love you! :) A-10C, AV-8B, Ka-50, F-14B, F-16C, F-5E, F/A-18C, L-39, Mi-8, MiG-21, MiG-29, SA34, Spitfire, Su-27, Su-33, UH-1H
greenhut Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 To perhaps give myself some credibility (or maybe none), I worked as a developer on the Microprose F-117 sim. Anyway, I have played all of the greats and find DCS: BS to be at the top of my list by most measures. Wow, I am in the presence of giants! greenhut, my hat's off to you and the team at Microprose. F-19 and F117 were fantastic simulations, I spent many many hours flying at right angle to SAM ground stations. Thank you,
drdogris Posted January 11, 2009 Author Posted January 11, 2009 Thanks for helping me to realize my spelling errors Teapot! I logged in six hours last night and had a great time. I can hardly wait to play the mods that come out...should be good fun.
DragonRR Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 The simulation is absolutely fantastic. An exceptional achievement. Deserves evey accolade there is for a computer "game". The devs should be proud of themselves. @greenhut.. :notworthy: [sIGPIC]Click me to go to the post[/sIGPIC]

I remenber playing f-19 stealth fighter and its upgraded version f-117 in my awesome commodore Amiga 512k. With the computer it came for free F-29 retaliator another great sim. Those three games were what got me in the flight simulator world. Those were released around 1988/90. Oh man we are old farts lol. I did a search in youtube and there is video about it. I started out on Microprose Project Stealth Fighter on the Sinclair ZX Spectrum 48k waaaaay back in the day, on a nice cassette :D Hats of to ED and all the testers for producing a top class flight sim, the future looks bright for us with the modules too, awesome
Guest Wasmic Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 My first sims were Fighter Pilot and Spitfire on C64. Since that time I played almost all flight simulations available. BS is the best sim thing that happened to me over last 5 years. Hats off.

F-19 and F117 were fantastic simulations, I spent many many hours flying at right angle to SAM ground stations. Thank you, Thanks, but in full disclosure, I worked on the Mac port of F117 (which turned out really poor). I got to port x86 assembly to 6800 assembly. Most of my work was 3D code - lots of matrix multiplication etc. Also got to work on the Civilization port to the Mac which was a big success and was back ported to the PC for the first Windows version of Civ. Anyway, I'm thrilled ED has helped the genre live on, and the quality, depth, and accuracy of BS is awesome. -- ASRock Z370 Gaming K6 | Intel 8600K @ 5.0| 16 GB DDR4 3000 | nVidia GTX 1080Ti | Samsung 850 Pro 512GB M.2 | TrackIR 5 | Rift CV1 | TM HOTAS Warthog | Win 10 x64 |
CuteQA Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 BS and EECH are my favorite heli sims for me, each game has their own strength. BS is awesome, but it still can have some improvements(Trees, Dynamic campaign...etc) or I wish the mission editor can be improved to ARMA level if the Dynamic campaign is not possible. EECH is like the Falcon 4.0 of Heli SIM for me, the mod community is still improving it today. EECH's dynamic campaign is just too awesome.
