All 32GB memory is used in Multiplayer

With the MT command to enter DCS Syria Map online Rotor - heads server ,  All my memory is being used and this is leading to Stutters . 

A total of 32GB System memory is being used . 

Still testing . Normally only 24GB used Syria Map . Same server . Only 8 players

Hi, 

 

Had this issue as well. When it got to 100% my pc actually crashed, then another time half the programs running crashed. Attached logs for help.

A Restart of PC cleared cache re-ran DCS-MT . This time 29GB of ram being used Also noticed when Pressing outside views F2 and F3 and F10 - map view the Memory graph would jump adding more memory every time I pressed the outside views  . Memory isn't being cleared . 

So to play DCS in VR on a server Nearly all 32GB and All 16GB of Vram is being used . 

That's just crazy . Please tell me this isn't right .

My RAM has been almost maxed out around 29-31 GB RAM, since 2.7 came out, so I don't think it is the MT. Any time I go into a big server it always goes up there. I use to have 16 RAM and could not even run multiplayer anymore, since 2.7 came out. Moved up to 32 then and now I went up to 64.

I am also noticing a big lag / delay switching from Map view to cockpit view and it tends to get worse the more often I do it.

Hi, 

please ensure you are not using any unofficial mods, edits or tools like reshade. 

run a slow repair of DCS or verify if steam 

delete fxo and metashader2 folder in saved games dcs.openbeta folder

restart DCS and allow time to load and create new shaders.

retest and add any crash log here again

Hi, 

Already did those things so my crash logs are following that. I have got the game running but it seems like it struggles to load in without a CTD, using all the memory available.

I complained about DCS leaking memory in another thread but was told than nobody else is experiencing it, and it is hard to debug. I installed a fresh Windows 10, have no mods and I still observe it (ST, not MT).

 

When I join and start flying F16 on GS server (Causasus map) it initially uses 17 Gb of RAM. But over about an hour it grows to full 32 and my game stutters. I cannot attribute this increase to any certain events. It can go lower as I fly higher, but over time still grows. I don't change server, and crashes/respawns do not seem to contribute to it.

I have a very fast 2*16 Gb RAM running at 4000mhz gear 1 and I enjoy stable 90 fps in VR. Adding two more sticks is not an option, and should not be the solution.

 

The devs should look into fixing this memory leak.

Personally I am not getting any crash. 

depending on the mission DCS will use the available memory. 

I have 64GB RAM and it does not max out. 

if you have 32GB RAM or less I would ensure your pagefile is set to 32GB also to see if it helps

Thaks for taking a look! I have 32GB ram and have a 32GB page file set as well. 

Although the pagefile is helping I'm not sure it's working as well as it could. Debating updagrading the RAM, Cpu and mobo now £££

going to 64gb RAM was one upgrade I thought was worth it, but it does hurt the wallet for sure.

I can confim memory issue. Went to MP server and started to view other planes via F2. The memory used kept increasing, reached max 32GB and then after a while DCS crashed.

If I stop using F2, memory usage slowly starts to decrease, but maybe it's to slow in some scenarios.

I have my page file on a fast NVMe drive, but it is no match to RAM. Once 32 Gb are full, constant swapping makes my game stutter and I must reboot the PC. Comments above suggest that other planes textures are filling up RAM. Maybe they should be purged on each respawn?

Object textures always caused memory problems. Just sit in the encyclopaedia and flick through every unit and module including liveries and your ram will be out of memory before you reach the end.

I think for multiplayer servers, the owners often use all available liveries for modules they add so players can customise. I theorise that this is part of the problem as not only is the module loading but often players will sit and flick through multiple liveries, this eventually has to be communicated to all other players.

When that player comes into range of others the livery then loads for others, however if that same player then changes livery and comes back into contact with those same players multiple times I wonder if you can quickly end up with a similar scenario as with the encyclopaedia?

Limiting liveries server side could help clients in theory…

I have the same issue with MT, also made a Post, BigNewy wanted me to reinstall everything, i did but hadn´t had the time jet to test... but now i´m not alone anymore... i have nearly 100 pagefile and 32gb ram, both tilted with complete crash. i think this isn´t about mods or anything else, the ram overflows, because it isn´t cleaned. I also can confirm the behavior of F2 and F3 but also add F7 F9 and F12 all of them add Ram usage and it won´t go down fast enough. In ST it will go down a bit faster then in MT, but if you stream like me and also have OBS and other Programs running it´s a pain in the ass to restart every 2 hours to save the game from crashing. That´s the only work arround i have found so far...

Just tried the encyclopedia test. RAM indeed grows with each new model. Plus some liveries take really long time to display (F-14A-135-GR) even on my high-end PC at 1920x1080 and even if the plane has already been loaded in RAM. In fact, I see no difference if it was loading for the first time from my SSD or been cached in RAM. There is definitely something fishy going on and I urge @BIGNEWY and @Flappie to have a look.

Edit: just noticed that the liveries change randomly, explains why I see no caching effect. Still, purging can be added on respawns to fix RAM clogging.

There is definitely a memory issue with DCS . It's not being cleared. 

I hope the new Vulkan engine is looking into a fix . I am not going to upgrade to 64gb of ram that's just crazy thinking and expensive. 

DCS needs to find a solution not the paying customer. 

Every time DCS  do something big we all have to upgrade. 

I don't see any other game titles forcing it's customer to keep updating and buying new hardware . 

I really hope Vulkan makes changes to this old old game engine. 

Will be testing more this week.
