Vel0th Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 Great! The one remark I have is on "Multi-core support will likely be available in DCS at a later point, but right now our bigger focus is on providing full 64-bit support. 32-bit is currently limiting some of our options.". Well, not having multi-core support is certainly limiting some of MY options. I am dissapointed at this seemingly not being of higher priority. But if 64-bit support means better frame rates and less CPU usage, perhaps we can hold out a little longer.
deviletk Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 I think he says that about the multi core support because it is being implemented in the new engine. The 64Bit upgrade maybe will get introduced before that? In that case, the more tech the better while we await the new engine. :) Thanks for the link btw. Regards Alex "Snuffer" D. amalahama Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 Wow!! Does anybody know when terrain toolkit will be available? Regards!!
deviletk Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 Wasnt that what "Hawg11" is making the Nevada desert with? Dont take my word for this, but if it was, i think it might come with the A-10 module? You know these beautiful shots he gave us: http://simmoders.com/index.php?topic=108.0 I might be way off though as i havent studied everything that has been stated by him regarding his work. Weta43 Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 At some point there certainly will be fixed-wing supersonic aircraft and in fact the Su-27, F-16 and Su-25 will all probably be featured in DCS at later dates. :-) Cheers.
-Nighthawk- Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 Yep I'd say 64-bit will give a nice frame boost then in DCS: A-10 true multi-core support making the game run much smoother. Good news as 64-bit still needs to be taken advantage more from game developers. 9 months after March 24th, so Q1 2010 we will see DCS: A-10 :)

McVittees Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 Does anyone know what sort of benefits can be realised by making a program 64bit? Does it mean 64bit cpus can execute more complex instructions per cycle or something? jctrnacty Posted February 8, 2009 Author Posted February 8, 2009 Well I think that 64bit support is due to memory restrictions, i expect minimal framerate boost, maybe loading improvement. The advantage is, we will get higher res textures, bigger maps, bigger theatres and more units in one mission. This includes, we will need more than 4gb of memory. Just my 2 cents. joker62 Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 I've read: Multi-core support will likely be available in DCS at a later point, but right now our bigger focus is on providing full 64-bit support. 32-bit is currently limiting some of our options. As for DX10, we see no persuasive reason to add it at this time. Please, I need some clarifications about 64-bit support: DCS Ka-50 alreday runs under XP 64 bit? I'd like change my OS, so this info is really hot for me. thanks in advance for your reply.

rawtoxin Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 yep, no problems with 64bit vista on my end.

joker62 Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 So at present I can install DCS Ka-50 under XP 64-bit and run it better than under 32-bit ... Please, ther'are some other usefull tips? Thanks a lot for Your courtesy. best regards antonio
159th_Viper Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 Most Humble apologies.........It seems that I misread your post, assuming you were referring to Vista. No idea re possible advantage from XP to XP 64 bit. However substantial advantage gained from XP to Vista. 1 Novice or Veteran looking for an alternative MP career? Feuerfalke Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 The game works without problems on XP64bit. But you won't benefit from the OS, if you're planning on that. The lack of true multicore-support is the same for all XP-Versions, 32 and 64bit, and as BlackShark is a 32bit program, it will still only use a max of 2 GB and cannot profit from the extended memory addressability from 64bit systems.
