I'm thrilled that i'll be able to fly over my house in the sim, but i also hope that Berlin is not the main theme and center of the new map: The whole area is just flat and not interesting for aviation (ignoring the historical context and chances for interesting "what if" scenarios).
I think everyone was always assuming a Cold War Germany map would center on Fulda, because not only of it's historical significance, but also because it would make an interesting map to fly in with its lower mountain ranges and diverse landscape. Berlin and Brandenburg in comparison are just flat land without any interesting topography...

If the A-10 is placed historically correct, it could be Sembach Airbase SSW of Frankfurt/Main. This AB was built particularly close to the village of Sembach. Very short distances from the shelters and taxi ways to civilian houses we can see in the background.

This is lots and lots of speculation, but all these images we see lately look very polished already and the hints come quite regular. We had this with the MiG-29 already at the end of last year and it got announced shortly after.

 

It would be mad! Imagine map including Berlin, Fulda, Ramstein with Fulda and Sembach in-between...wow

no other area would make sense . .  maybe a part of western Poland, too. We will have mountains and hills, Thuringia and the Harz, Weserbergland and so on. . . When all related airbases and military installation will be modeled, this would be thrilling. WOW. . . so many Soviet, and NVA and Nato and Luftwaffe airbases. . . every 25-50km you will have another one. . .

That would be truly remarkable... Let's get our imaginations go wild and wait for ED to come and temper our expectations for the still unannounced "no news to share" map.

Well, as long as ED listen to you guys, then I'm happy.
I have a feeling this map could be huge, and are we really getting a real Cold War map? Oh, man! Well, we knew that when they eventually made this map, it just had to be perfect. So, we'll see!

Hot Take: It's not an ED project. It's Ugra.

ED should be pretty busy with Afghanistan AND Iraq (and the PTO), while we haven't heard anything from Ugra for quite a while...

While this is true, ED has also been very "conservative" regarding the scope of their map projects. Sure Afghanistan will cover a huge area, but most of it is only sparsely populated. I think we all can agree that a German map that spans from Berlin to Fulda would be the most ambitious map project in DCS so far...

While this is true, ED has also been very "conservative" regarding the scope of their map projects. Sure Afghanistan will cover a huge area, but most of it is only sparsely populated. I think we all can agree that a German map that spans from Berlin to Fulda would be the most ambitious map project in DCS so far...

You bet! Well, if it is Ugra... We convinced them to expand to Cyprus and further into Iraq... "Where to invade next" on this map? The possibilities are endless!

Especially nice for aviation.

(leads me to the question if the race track on Nevada is usable with drivable CA vehicles? I never checked that out. Would be hell of fun)

Remember Wags was confirmed ED has working on other two maps aside of the Afghanistan, Iraq and Marianas WW2, and surely that will be the same maps to modern/WW2.

How come. It looks very good, also what we saw so far - in various trailers looks great already and it's just the beginning, map developer did already nice job and it will be even better. 

I was hoping they would already mention it in the news, supposedly they read out comments here so why bother hiding it anymore?

It's just that i got the feeling that Afghanistan is once more a project were the Early Access tag really does some very heavy lifting.
Ugra's Syria arrived in a more complete state and i'd worry that an ED EA release of a big Germany map would be in Early Access purgatory for many, many, many years...

Oh OK I thought you were on about the fidelity / quality, yes the EA is 'effect' is there for sure, but they gave an estimate of quite frequent updates, I like the approach that current region is pretty much feature complete, I remember I had to resign missions around some added roads / urban tiles to the PG map back in a day. 

And well, if UM is really behind the Germany map, that would be excellent news, they proved a lot with Syria and Normandy 2 terrains.

I like all the YT video and screenshot detective work in this thread 

Some of the observations here pretty much conclude that a Fulda Gap map is being worked on.

 

Just in case any of the devs are reading this:

Please take note, that if you include a Dutch military AB, even if it's just one (preferably Volkel ), all Dutch DCS players will purchase your map. That's a promise

Yeah, you are right! Afghan, Kola and SA look terrible down low, however it is said that the Afghanistan SW portion is in EA and WILL be improved, hopefully! 

I agree with you though that UM would make it much nicer ... unless all developers will use the "new" approach to maps.
