The FF module will model many of this aircraft’s systems very differently from the FC version which many of us have been flying. So there will be a lot to unlearn and, then, relearn.

It would be extremely helpful to have the manual released prior to the module. That would decrease the frustration level for folks who haven’t spent time wading through the available Russian language. At least this would give folks a chance to see what’s changed before the module arrives.

HUD: No target speed/alt without datalink. No target overlayed symbol. Right side of HUD is only on IPV/HDD. Symbology is only correct for level flight. Heading tape goes away with lock. No radar mode displayed, can only tell by fixed radar range in each mode. No target aspect in IRST mode, IRST mode ranging is uncertain beyond 6.5 km and might take 8 seconds or alert enemy RWR. No specific ATK symbol to show memory mode. Bar scanned on HDD/IPV. Rhombus is radar gimbal limit. 
 

RWR: No EWR or AWACs categories. Sides and rear have less range then front. 50/90 doesn’t show target at 60-80 degrees but actually 80-100 degrees and only at close range, 50 light only at medium to long range. PD fighters are misplaced in medium range SAM category until close range. Presence of missile tag showing estimate of enemy attack distance. Signal strength no longer shows linear distance but exponential. Possible blinding at close range. Elevation showing only works at close range. Low SHORAD priority. 
 

Sensor interaction: You do not have simple on/off control of radar and IRST to switch primary sensor. What is primary sensor will be decided by placement of SUV knob, whether in search or track mode, selected weapon, if laser range is present, and placement of interaction switch. In addition, one sensor will only pick up the lost lock of another sensor if you turn on interaction switch. Which locks radar to MPRF.

The problem I saw in Wags' latest video is that there was "knots", "feet" and "miles" everywhere on the gauges. Yes I'm aware that you can set English cockpit and English avionics options separately, but those are LANGUAGE options and it seems in DCS they also change the UNITS without saying that they do.

I hope that on launch we'll be able to set English LANGUAGE while retaining the proper UNITS. Because if you set English cockpit and Native avionics, parts of the cockpit will still be in Russian (it's like that in current modules as well such as Mi-24).
Again, those options should just affect the language, not the units.

Well, unfortunately my russian is non-existent. Grown up in former West Germany it wasn't the preferred foreign language.

However although used to the metric system the civilized world uses , I use this strange imperial units when flying. As almost all dimensions, metrics, tables, formulas are given in feet, knots, pounds, psi ect. I was just tired of always calculating this back and forth.

I didn’t go to school in Poland like you so I didn’t get the chance to learn Russian. I tried to do it on my own for a while but learning French, German and English on top of my native language was enough work already.

So I want to understand what I’m reading and what Nadia Rita is saying, at the very least until I’m comfortable enough with the module. Then and only then might I switch to Russian.

There is an English cockpit which is separate from Avionics Language. Sounds like maybe you are changing the Language setting, which is for the entire sim GUI.

Yes but with ‘English cockpit’ and ‘Native avionics’, the Aekran will still display Russian messages, won’t it? And voice messages from Rita (Russian Betty) will be in Russian?

rita speaks very little, there are not many signs in russian in cockpit.
i agree, its good when there is an oportuniti to switch languages, units of measurement at will, but, in other planes there is no such oportuniti.

i woud replace miles/fet with km/metrs, well, and english with my native language.

Luckily, Cyrillic is official letter in my country. And I can understand something in Russian if it is simmilar. Although my English is million light years better than Russian, I'll stick to native Russian option. Just for immersion. And don't worry about Nadia. I don't listen to her anyway. No men listen to their women, anyway.

why ”Nadia”? her name is ”Rita” - Речевой Информатор
cyrilic is probabli dificult to understand, there are complex leters, u/ he/she/they need to remember them, and few people want to do that.

I wouldn't want to translate Viggen cockpit either. It's about attitude and immersion. You have a chance to learn the aircraft and its operation in the native language.

I don't know. I hear people call her like that.

I am Serbian, we use Cyrillic which poses no challenge to me. Only certain words which are not simmilar and new for me. For example "Топливо", in Serbian "Гориво". However this will be a nightmare for non Cyrillic speakers.

Neither would I: Swedish is VERY similar to my native language. I don’t need English cockpits in Mirages either.

Slavic languages make my head spin: I learned a bit of Polish years ago when I was dating someone there, and my pronunciation was good enough to pass for native, but the amount of phrases I knew was very limited - why do they even feel the need to conjugate people’s names
