Mi-8 upgrade plans?

I would very much pay for an upgrade, especially if it also added a version with dolphin nose and rear ramp.

Indeed, also as an upgrade with dolphin nose and ramp, the Mi-8MTV5 / Mi-17 V5 could be a fairly low effort, the cockpit is very similar:

I was  thinking  about having the option of the flat rear ramp, or removed ramp/clamshells like they sometimes do.  And maybe the nose armour seen in newer Hips... 

Wasn't  there a few Hips that got ATGM's ?

One article from way back called an ELINT variant with a missile "The Terminator", after being used to eliminate a tango leader on his cell phone... back in early 2000's

 

Not necessary but maybe "nice to have" might be Mi-171 high horsepower variants with glass cockpits, be it Russian glass or Western glass. I think  of the special versions bought for Western groups, like SF units, covert ops (yes they had  some for real, pictures even exist), and commercial use. United Nations have operated these for many many decades, but I've no idea which variants they have used over the  years... guessing most were very basic early models with a handheld GPS taped to the dash, but no idea if they  are using fancier newer versions today.

Removal is available in mission editor already, in one of aircraft properties tabs.

The version with ATGM is using TV2 engines. Different and weaker than what we have. Mi-171 is basically a whole new module in terms of system management and displays

AMTsh early version can use ATGM missiles, it looks like our mtv2 but have atgm's:D null

There are no plans, but it would be good to refresh the cockpit at least to today's standards of new modules.

Yes there are. ED have said multiple times they "plan to" update all older modules, and the people behind the Mi-8 would like to make an AI co-pilot who can autonomously set the doppler system and switch between waypoints as defined in the ME. This is all known... But there is a difference between having "plans" and actually finding time and budget to do it. And if so, when...

In fact, if the F-5 is the new "standard" for ED's definition of a Remaster, the Mi-8 is the only module of which I'd actually consider buying the upgrade because I love that helicopter so much...

We've heard about such plans, but there was nothing specific about the Mi-8 exactly from what I remember. In the case of the Ka-50 or A-10C, there were announcements by name that these modules would receive new versions, so I'm basing it on that. Either way, for me it's an immediate purchase, I also like the Mi-8 very much and either a newer version or at least some interior refreshment would be useful, like they plan to do with the Su-25.

Personally, I would like to see something with a pointed nose, something like the Mi-8MTV-5.

I would like to note, however, that the withdrawal of Russian helicopters from the Russian store rather completely destroys any plans for any development I suppose. Im a pessimist here. There is no agreement on this, one can conclude, so further development is unlikely. The situation has not been clarified and the modules have not returned to the Russian store.

that surprises me.

Is the Mi8 already Vulkan compatible?  I rather assumed that part of the reason for the KA50 and F5 updates (both of which are great) was as to ensure they’d work with Vulkan.

With the age of the Mi8, I assumed that it and probably the Huey would be due an overhaul.  I was hoping so, as I’d love to see both enhanced.

I would assume that, regardless of the visual overhaul, ED ensures that all modules will work with the new API. Just imagine the outcry, if they didn't.

I seem to recall a newsletter discussing Vulkan from years ago already, stating that they made their shaders compatible with both Direct3D 11 and Vulkan. Back then the plan was to initially have the sim support both (but likely requiring different DCS.exe executables ).

You are posted more modern version. The bottom one have shark-nosecone for its radar.
amtsh 987 have this cockpit. It looks very similar to our version but have some changes.
