imacken Posted July 17, 2024 Posted July 17, 2024 This is a good looking map, however, I hardly ever use it due to the complete lack of content available. There are a few Heatblur ones, but really, there are more or less no IAs, and no campaigns. Holbeach Posted July 17, 2024 Posted July 17, 2024 (edited) FGR2, San Carlos flyby. The Phantom FGR 2, was stationed in the Falklands from 1982 to 1992 and with a bit of imagination, can be used here from Port Stanley and later Mount Pleasant. Stanley had to be lengthened with matting and 5 arrester wires, but it can be used here in DCS, with a standard AA fit of 8 missiles and 2 tanks. There was initially a 100 mile, shoot on sight, exclusion zone, later increased to 150 nm. Main threat was deemed to be a Hercules attack. Later, Argentine recce aircraft Electra and Russian Bears, were the regular intercept. Daily low level excercises were carried out down to less than 100'. Patrols went to 20nm off the Argentine coast. Plenty to do. At 40000' .. Edited July 18, 2024 by Holbeach 3 ASUS 2600K 3.8. P8Z68-V. ASUS ROG Strix RTX 2080Ti, RAM 16gb Corsair. It seems to be alleviated by reducing forest details to the minimum setting, though.

I took the Kiowa for a mooch about but picked the wrong spot for it really. Took off from a carrier as part of my ‘task force’ and headed for land. It looked ok, no lag that I’d expected to get but not a lot of scenery where I’d flown to on the Eastern side. Port Stanley etc not exactly known for its sprawling forestry so fair enough. My biggest problem with the map is the amount of memories it stirs up. I had my own little war going on when I first heard of the place, never mind the Falklands and a psychopathic witch ruining the Country. I remember watching our rag tag hobbled together fleet sailing out of Pompey on the telly with the usual families waving em off along the sea wall. Chocolate bars were a sensible size (and price), crisp packets were a sensible size and price and as far as I was concerned, those were the important things to be thinking about. That, and what kind of marbles I could get hold of. - Instead of the Kiowa I took the Phantom to check out the Western side. Snow-capped bits looked nice and didn’t seem to suffer at high or low altitude. I should ask Holbeach or Beirut for directions to the good spots really, it’s pretty big I’ll say that. I’d still be flying home now if I’d stayed in the Kiowa. As much as I’ve seen of it looked pretty good, if a little sparse but that’s accurate I think? Need a proper session on it really but It’s not bad so far. 1

Yeah the vid comments did say to add a little more than the target FPS which for TrackIR is best at 30/60/90. I think that idea works if you have like a 4090 and are getting say a consistent 100+ fps so that when you cap it at 60/65, you are assured of it staying consistently at 60. For me with my old 3070, I range from 35-90 depending so maybe my cap should be 30. But I won't want that so I just leave it at 60 or 65 and hope that whatever extra FPS I did saved it from goes into something good. 2 AMD Ryzen 5 5600X | Gigabyte RTX 3070 Gaming OC 8GB | 64GB G.SKILL TRIDENT Z4 neo DDR4 3600Mhz | Asus B550 TUF Plus Gaming | 2TB Aorus Gen4 TM Warthog HOTAS | TrackIR 5 | Windows 10 Home x64 | My HOTAS Profiles
Holbeach Posted July 19, 2024 Posted July 19, 2024 (edited) I'm on a flat screen 1080 and Trackir, so I'm not going to get too many problems, even on the Falklands, which has high detail at low level. Using Harrier, F_1, or F-4, low level at 100' AGL frame rate is lower but perfectly acceptable ( to me). No stuttering is more important. 100' AGL over Port Stanley. Single core. V Sync: Fast. I just deleted fxo files and metashaders trying to shake off the jitters I’ve had since the update. Tried this map out afterwards and it ran lovely. Unfortunately, my flying over the nice looking Mountains didn’t run so lovely and I plummeted to ‘a better place’. Off to test it some more. (and not think of supping in the sunshine. Holbeach Posted July 19, 2024 Posted July 19, 2024 (edited) I use to have trouble trying to shake off the jitters and a massive hang over next day after a good session, but it was worth it. I was an avid follower of the war and still have all the magazines depicting the action. I find that the Harrier and today I checked the F-15, run the best at dirt level, with the F-15 running at 720 kts very smoothly low over the East Falklands. Maybe Razbam knows a thing. I'm only running one Bear for target practice, so it might deteriorate as I add assets. Adding 12 ships to an air attack force, caused a crash, which has stopped my updater working. Never mind, the game still works. (Solved). .. Edited July 20, 2024 by Holbeach 2 ASUS 2600K 3.8. P8Z68-V. ASUS ROG Strix RTX 2080Ti, RAM 16gb Corsair. M2 NVME 2gb. 2 SSD. 3 HDD. 1 kW ps. X-52. Rogue Trooper Posted August 5, 2024 Posted August 5, 2024 A bit late, but went for a flight on the SA map yesterday and stayed there all day. An excellent update, Mountains look great when flying over them in a plane, but also the ground work looks nice and complex down low in my Gazelle even though there are not many plants and shrubs. The destroyed buildings/houses/structures on the Falklands Islands look great when hovering in close, with a lot of variation in size and types of debris. Runs really well too (although I have not taken my Gazelle to larger cities yet). Well done Razbam. 3 HP G2 Reverb (Needs upgrading), Windows 10 VR settings: IPD is 64.5mm, High image quality, G2 reset to 60Hz refresh rate. set to OpenXR, but Open XR tool kit disabled. Burning Bridges Posted September 19, 2024 Posted September 19, 2024 (edited) I am a new owner and I also have to that say this map is awesome now. I did not buy it until now. I don't know what it was on release - I guess if people said it was bad they were right - but this is not true any more. The landscape looks so real at any altitude and surpasses the other sims, with the right (bad) weather it is shockingly realistic. South Atlantic map really deserves a second look by anyone now. All other maps are on the back burner since I discovered South Atlantic. I also have no fps issues whatsover, it runs at a solid 90 and just dips when I turn the view around, but returns to 90 as soon as I stop. Edited September 19, 2024 by Burning Bridges 8

Would those who have both say the SA is better at low level than the Kola in its current state? Thks Depends. I haven't tried the new summer yet. The winter is NOT winter, it's late spring at the most, or it was a very mild winter, but doesn't make sense that far North. What irritates me immensely, is that if you go low. The ground rubble will "penetrate" the snow, and is completely off. Won't happen. Have a look at my background picture. That's Easter in the south of Norway at 1000 metres. That said, it's gorgeous from high up, and it catches the "mood" so to speak. And I like the SA textures. They could probably be better, mad they might get there. Oh! And the trees are off. The birches are far too dense, and the lakes should be frozen. Again I refer to my background picture. Cheers! Edited October 8, 2024 by MAXsenna 1
VR Flight Guy in PJ Pants Posted October 8, 2024 Posted October 8, 2024 (edited) As for the SA map at low alt, trying to stay on topic, as the terrain type is so diverse, it is hard to compare with Kola. Disclaimer: I am no expert to these locations, the comparisons below are likely to be far from correct and fair. Depending on your yardstick, and where you are looking at, say Falklands, it is not even to the quality level of PG. Another complaint: runway is still way too smooth when compared to Marianas and NTTR, and shares the symptom with Kola. Near to the Andes, tress are surprisingly spare. I am not sure if it is the case IRL, but the plant density is no where near to Caucasus and even Syria. If you looks for some particular famous peaks in the region, they have nothing resembling the look IRL, to be fair, no commercial simulation I can afford gets it right. If you mostly fly in helos, I would say Falklands looks better than many parts of Kola but it is no Syria, NTTR or Caucasus in terms of overall quality (surprisingly I like many parts of Afghanistan which has higher resolution) . And they have yet to fix the shorelines which Kola looks a bit more realistic. Edited October 8, 2024 by VR Flight Guy in PJ Pants 3 I Fly, Therefore I Am.
