In a recent flight in the F-4E sim I rolled off the runway.  Jester immediately called, "Are you out of your G-dd---ed mind?"

THIS IS UTTERLY UNACCEPTABLE IN A GAME.

I flew 20 years off carriers.  During that time I racked up combat missions over Iraq, Kosovo, and Afghanistan and had everything from AAA to missiles shot at me.  I have been trailed by MiGs when USAF AWACS was asleep on the job in Kosovo (the Brits had to let us know what was going on).  Twice my jet was misidentified as Bandit, once an F-15E was cleared to engage me BVR (and closed for a visual instead... saving my life)   I have seen countless inflight emergencies, had a landing gear failure while trapping on the flight deck at night, and seen all manner of stupid in the cockpit.

I HAVE NEVER HEARD ANYONE CURSE IN G-D'S NAME IN THE JET.

Yes, Sailors swear.  That is a given.  The line is drawn entering the cockpit.  Yes, aviators swear there as well, but it is both rare and typically a debrief item or is/was attached to a debrief item.  To use The L-RD's name in vain was never done and has exactly no business in a game.

This is beyond disgusting and needs to be fixed, yesterday.

He's a USAF jock, so he's not nearly as well-mannered as USN aviators. 🙂 Then again, when we get a carrier Phantom we'll also get ones from USMC...

That said, to think of it, I mostly heard F-word variations as the pilots' profanities of choice. While I don't think they'd shy away from religious ones these days, perhaps in the 80s people took those things more seriously.

I am absolutely speechless at the level of over reaction shown here, why should they change it just because one person demands it? I’m happy with the language shown. Don’t go throwing your service record around dude, we’ve all served.

The response above encapsulates everything wrong with that viewpoint.  IF that person actually served they were in a unit that gave a terrible sampling of professionalism and honor.  For this, I feel sorry for them.

This is a game.  Children and teens should be able to play.  Those of us who know G-d personally should also be able to play without being offended.  There is zero room for such language.  It serves no purpose other than to sensationalize, which it does successfully.  Supporting cursing in a game says a lot about the maturity of the supporter, none of it good.

By the way I am a Mustang, too.  I earned the right to throw whatever I want around at any time regarding my record.

I guess dropping bombs that kill people is completely fine as long as you don't curse them in the process.

The problem with that argument is that cursing is real but the "killing" is not. It's fine to disagree with the OP but that's not a good argument IMO.

The OP says he did it for real dude, he has no dramas with lobbing JDAM’s at people from the safety of an aircraft at altitude but don’t swear while you’re doing it.

I would have to agree with the original post . . . Save this for your personal MP chat or even games like COD.

This is  a Sim . . . Not a game!

Neither a gentleman nor, an officer would use this in real combat for this reason . . . they might not be coming home . . .

I Salute you Richrach.

Uh . . . where might you live Tzigy.   Some of us here have lived the reality . . .  the real game.

I see, my mistake. Then in that case, yes, it's still perfectly acceptable to be okay with killing in the line of duty and still be offended by unnecessary swearing.

And many disagree. Why not accommodate both?

Well, you DID go off the runway and trash the jet. Stay on the runway, problem solved!

Sir,

In 20 years of flying tactical aircraft I heard every single cuss word you can imagine. C-21As, C-130E/H-1/H-2, C-130J, MC-130J. More deployments than I'd like to admit. Central/South America, Europe, Africa and of course the middle-east---tooooo much middle-east. I've been shot at on a handful of occasions, made the right tactical call (not perfect but the right call) and cussed like a sailor afterwords....maybe even during. I honestly can't remember. Cuss words over the radio? No. Cuss words on the ICS......lol, A TON!!!!!

I'm sorry sir, but in my humble opinion cussing is a part of the military mindset, right or wrong (its wrong imho), it is. And by the way, I am a 110% God Fearing Christian Man. However, I would not shove my viewpoint down anyone's throat. Everyone has to come to their own decision as to what path they take in life. I disagree with your forcing of opinion here.

Respectfully,

Harbs

Well.....The folks in Louisiana that seem to be up your alley are telling everyone that if they don't want to see it....Just don't look. Well....Don't listen. The road always goes both ways. I served......I served in combat. That language is a way of life in our military. I used it then and I use it now 40 years later. Everyone that I know from the Pilots in the helicopters and planes I jumped from to the people who trained me had those words rolling off their tongues pretty much all of the time. Not sure what military you served in but the last of my relatives who were in the D.O.A.,  M.I. stationed at the pentagon just retired this year and they used that language All of the time. They are only words. Nothing more.

I was an infantryman in the U.S. Army for 4 years, A U.S. Border Patrol Agent for  another 4 and have spent the last 20 years as a local law enforcement officer in Florida with 10 of that on Patrol and Street Crime Unit. Although the last 10 years have been spent as the agency attorney, I  still work with the Patrol guys. So…let’s say I am extremely comfortable around profanity. In fact, I have lived in worlds populated by fraternity brothers, infantryman and cops for so long that I see the proper use of profanity as an art form. I excel at finding the appropriate word and using the perfect inflection with impeccable timing (though never with the Public.)

All of that said, I’ve RARELY heard someone say “G* Damn”. “Dammit”’ or “Damn” sure…but not the deluxe addition. I mean, I curse around my kids like a damned animal when I’m pissed and I don’t use it. There is just something about it that many people - even those comfortable with profanity- find highly offensive

So, while I find the OP’s reaction to be a little much, I certainly get what he’s saying. If you think that he is one of very few people who are offended by it, you are wrong. I’m not religious at all…haven’t been to church since I got married (the first time!)….but I even kind of twinge a bit when I hear it.

So, maybe just replace it with “Are you out of your damned mind?”

Also: RichRach (Op)…are you the guy who made all of those Yom Kippur missions for the A-4? If so, VERY well done. I think it’s time for some with the Phantom

As a retired Navy guy, I beg to differ. We curse all of the time! How is it possible to have a COMBAT sim with killing and someone gets upset over a curse word? There are no credentials to laid out here, but I find it REALLY difficult to believe that a COMBAT vet would have a problem with the language. We've seen, heard and been called much worse! Furthermore, if kids are playing this sim, that's a problem in and of itself! Picking and choosing which evil to be outraged about never works!

DO it or Don't, but don't cry about it. Real men don't cry!

Though we live in a world of increasing cussing and taking the Lord's name in vain, and those who support it don't care who it offends, I stand with you on this. Real doesn't make it right and in a controlled environment where the level of cussing could have been easily managed such as in a study sim like DCS, better choices of words could have been used without taking away from the sim.
