I get my manual from TFC 1 minute ago :)

I love its paint smell :)

That is the smell of printers ink on a newly printed book - not paint!

It will disappear in a few days.

Yes, my bad, it is ink of course. But I was so excited when I wrote here I didn't take care about my words.

BTW I have no problem at all with the way new books smell, I like it because it means new discoveries are awaiting for me.

For those of you with the book - are the Cyrillic terms describing the instruments of the chopper now in English? ... or are they still as they are represented in the PDF manual?

The screenshots are in Cyrillic - however the text description is both in Cyrillic and English.

I need to get my a**s to Duxford... with my camera for a day out...

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.

I just can't (or won't) do it. $50 for a game, and then another $30 just to have a manual? If enough people did not buy it, and demanded it with the game, there is a chance they might listen. I spent minimum of $30 printing it myself (probably more like $50-60) because I am one who actually expects to be able to use a manual with a game like this without having to wait 6 months.

I have not flown the Shark in about 6 months, I got tired of not getting responses from the makers (hey, 20 seconds for an e-mail, regardless of how in-depth, really isn't so much...to be ignored completely shows a distaste for good customer service), and feeling like I was having to pay double for a game just to be able to fly it.

Most comments I've seen here are about "rushing to order," and I just think that is sad. If people accept a game without a proper manual, of course they are going to put the price on your head. I would often even encourage any way to give more money to the game companies, saying that the money is going towards developing new games, something I really like. In this case, though, I feel extorted no matter how I look at it.

Never pirated a game in my life, don't plan to ever do so I can give the $ to developers to help them with more great games, but asking me to about double my price on a game just for a manual? To me, that is a sad way to treat your customers, and speaks (or should I say 'screams') about the current state of gaming in what was once such a rich field.

Dude, you've spent 30$ on printing the (non-extended) manual and yet expect it to be included in the total price of 50$ for the game? What do you think it costs to produce the sim itself? Especially considering the very limited target audience of hardcore simmers. I understand such demands for mainstream games that usually come with a manual of around 40-50 pages but in this case this strikes me as plain rediculous.

Why is that sad? What we do with our money is our business. You don't want a printed manual with extra content? Fine. The PDF is a perfectly good manual.

I think you're a tad naive to 'expect' a big heavy printed manual with any game these days. the market just isn't there to support the extra production costs, carriage and packaging required. Yes, the old days were great, I remember buying Falcon 3 and Tornado with their exceptional manuals in their great big boxes...

Besides which, how would you distribute the printed manual for a download game?

Posted
I'm willing to bet that many people here (including me) would have paid more for a sim + manual bundle on release.

Yeah, a bundle would have been nice but if that means having to wait significantly longer for the release of the actual sim (because they have to work out all the print and distribution related stuff first), I guess most people are fine with the .pdf, right? And then there's also the increasingly important argument about downloadable versions.

tell me what game [pc] has a printed manual with their game???

and the e-mail thingy... sometimes it's better to ask on the forums, whats the problem.

I think of flight simming as a bit of a hobby, I love the genre, in the same way as a golfer loves his sport, he'll buy new clubs once in a while, and more often than not will buy a book on his sport to help him understand the fundamentals. I love a bit of fishing when the weather is nice, I buy a new rod once in a while, I also have shelves stuffed with fishing books.

Can you see where i'm coming from? , those who buy the game, it's a bit like buying the golf clubs or the fishing rod. Then we want to expand our knowledge a little further, so we buy a book. Be it Golfing, fishing or simming it's all the same. It's our passion and we don't mind spending the extra.

Plus on top of that if you buy from TFC then all the profits go directly into their pockets to help fund something else, be it new games or towards an aircrafts restoration.

It's a win win situation.

I like the way they've done it. It gives the customers the choice as to what they want and want to pay for. Pricing the sim as it is with a PDF manual means I'm not forced to pay for a printed manual if I don't want one.

If I want a printed manual then I can choose to pay for it. I can either pay to have the PDF manual printed (this may be very cheap depending on the individual and their situation), and/or I can order the enhanced printed flight manual.

So its a win-win I think. You choose how much you want to pay for the items you want. As opposed to raising the price and forcing everyone to buy a printed manual which they may not want.

And, as was said, I haven't seen ANY game recently which came with a printed manual (other than the small pamphlet quick start guides they usually come with), so its hard to say this should be different.

Well, if he omitted the last four words I would agree :D

JimMack, is it worth cancelling the Amazon order and directly order from TFC now if I live in the UK? I want to get rid of my girlfriend for a few days as soon as possible!

If you order from TFC you will get the book within 3 working days max.
