Which "Latest" ATI Catalyst Driver do you all use/recommend?

Are the latest drivers compatable with BS or are there problems?

Thanks

For what OS(XP, Vista, Win7) and what card(1xxx or 3xxx or 4xxx?

@Pteradon: Maybe he have an AGP Card. The newer driver versions are making many problems with old (AGP) cards. Not on every system...but often enough.

Since an year or so, the ATI driver really sucks.

For example:

Every time i install a new driver in XP, it damages my creative soundcard drivers. And I have no f** idea why!?

P.s.: In Windows 7 I use the latest Vista 64 driver. The newer one doesn't support my graphics card. In XP I use 9.2 or 9.3 and I have that blank menu issue...but who cares^^

I'm just read about some problems with AMD/ATI drivers v.9.1 or later and the recommended solution was downgrade it to version 8.12.

Thanks for the information.

I didn't know about those problems.

I was using the AGP version of HD3850 last few months and it's still running on my 2nd rig as I set up my new rig a week ago which of course, became my primary computer for work & gaming (LOFC & DCS). I still use the old one (PIV with HD3850) but the thing is I can't install any new CAT driver since 8.12.

New drivers simply can't recognize hardware (HD3850 in AGP) and the last stable driver is the one provided on the installation CD that came with the Gfx. You guess, it's the 8.12!

There also seems to be some kind of problem related to antialiasing with ATI and Windows XP. Would love to hear if someone actually has working AA with WinXP and ATI.

I had AA working fine when i was running Xp with 9.X drivers. I'm using the 9.5 beta drivers with no issues.

AA works with XP, I had no issues with it! however, AA is not recommended for resolutions lower than 1280*1024 as it can make some objects pop out without smooth dot to shape transition! (Like planes in LOFC, should be visible at 15Km as a dot but with AA on it may become visible only at 7KM).

I'm running Vista 64 -bit with a single 4850, 512mb card.

Should I stay with 8.12 or Upgrade to 9.4 and/or would there be a benefit to switching to 9.4?

I'm of the understanding of "If it ain't Broke" rule?

So with this added info what would you all recommend?

Thinking of upgrading to a 1 gig 4890 though w/ PSU upgrade????

I'm with 9.2 on Vista 64 with a 4870 x2, seems smooth until I fire off a few flares...

My understanding is that 9.3 + do have some specific optimisations and support for the 4xxx series cards, including Win7 support. Since 9.3 ATI/AMD ceased supporting older cards than 2xxx. I see no point in having older drivers installed on a new card if there are no stability/quality issues. Performance wise 9.3 + should in many cases be faster, or at least equal to 8.12 on a 4xxx in recent games.
