Afghanistan - No Country?

ED you have released the latest map yet why can Afghanistan not actually be chosen as a country to add to a coalition?

Also whilst we are discussing this topic i'm quite unsure how all these years later we are still awaiting New Zealand?

I'm not going to list out here all the significant contributions they have made over the years in real terms, but suffice to say they should have been included in a selectable country as part of the coalition be it on your WW2 maps through to modern day.

4 years is not long enough for a request it seems?  I would add this is not the only request Rudel as i recollect making a comment on another thread some years ago.

Insulting really.  Whilst this is only a game, you only have to have a walk around a commonwealth war grave to see the sacrifice and contribution New Zealand has made, be it in WW2 or more recent conflicts.  I find it hard to believe Afghanistan is not a selectable country given we now have a map all about it or New Zealand (Still) are not a coalition partner especially given the latter where at the tip of the spear for some operation's in this theatre.

I think an answer 4 years on why this very simple request hasn't been expedited is just.

The "4 years" isn't really an argument in this case. Cause before an Afghanistan map existed, there was just no need for Afghanistan as a faction.

That's only if you play historic-bound missions ... I can totally devise an Iran-Afghanistan coalition, with Afghan units fighting alongside Iran on the PG Map, in the same way as we placed US units in caucasus for so many years.

And that's what is a part of what defines the "need". I don't say it would have been useless before or something like that. But for Ed there was just no urge to add this faction with no Afghanistan map.

Several latin american countries were added to DCS long before there was any map of this region, so it has happened before ... and we have both Koreas, China, japan, etc, on DCS since for ever and no region Map either.

Again, I don't say it doesn't make sense. I say: There was no urge for ED to do so.

ok ... I get there is no urge ... but taking 4+ years to add a new country onto a lua file seems a bit extreme.

Need to read the context, 4 years relates to New Zealand - certainly that should be in the game, not even worth debating, only a clown would!

Adding a country should be as easy to accomplish (by ED!) as adding a text line into a list and adding a little flag image file. Adding the entire list of global countries which ever existed since the dawn of flight and maybe a dozen fictional ones on top should be achievable by this month's intern during an afternoon at the office, maybe two for preparing the flag images.

If its not that simple to do, then the whole implementation is coded unnecessarily complicated in the first place and should have been changed a long time ago.

Same for navaids and com frequencies, possibly more stuff I just can't recall right now.

Things like these make you wonder why sometimes such trivial items have to rest in ED's backlog for so long.

Neither Afganistan nor New Zealand assets are available in game. If we take some Soviet assets and put them into the Afghanistan faction, or even make certain US assets available to the Afghanista, we still have no skins for those. Therefore its not ED priority to make it happen, that is why long time ago they introduced Joint blue forces and joint red forces as well as Insurgents. Afghanistan for PLAYER makes no sense, for AI, how will it differ from current red forces / Insurgents / blue forces ?

Actually it is not as easy as you seem to believe .. in addition to the flag, images for the officer ranks, medals and some squadrons are also needed, not to mention the lines needed for the AI Units that the country can use (and the bit of research needed to select which units are realistic for that country).  But I agree that it is not something complex, in fact there is a User Mod that accomplishes this, but of course it is not Multiplayer compliant:
