No it's not just you. Performance is much worse than for example the Apache, and the VRAM demand is also much higher: 2GB more compared to the Apache.
As it is, my 6900XT doesn't have enough VRAM to fly the Chinook on the Afghanistan map (on the included hot start IA mission the framerate dropped to 4 (!) - yes that's not a typo).

In testing I saw low FPS with my 1070 ti (8 GB VRAM), but it was still mostly playable for me (Ryzen 5 3600 X, 32 GB RAM, 1070 ti, WQHD, Win 10). In Caucasus FPS were in the 30s to 40s, in Syria more in the 20s to 30s, Afghanistan was pretty bad, all of course depending on the mission and the starting position. I upgraded my GPU 2 weeks ago but don't think the module degraded in performance since then (don't think other testers mentioned anything of that kind).

I'm not saying you guys don't have issues - single digit FPS is clearly unplayable. But as is so often the case, the GPU alone doesn't seem to be the only factor. I mean the 1070 ti was a trusty and good card, but has reeeeally been outdated for a while now.

Of course the usual tips apply, like deleting Saved Games\DCS\fxo and Saved Games\DCS\metashaders2, and also it might take a few minutes in DCS for shaders to be recompiled and for FPS to suddenly recover to more normal values. It goes without saying that closing other applications and getting rid of unneeded autostarts and background tasks can help a lot.

For me the CH-47F runs like crap on my Quest 3.

No problem with the F-4E 80 FPS (The chosen Oculus refresh rate).

Also the AH-64D runs great.

Maybe the Cockipt textures for the CH-47F are too large.

The AH-64D Cockpit textures are 1.3 GB while the CH-47F are 3.5 GB !!

Unpacked the CH-47F Cockpit textures are 4.86 GB - thats quite insane.

Even the Heatblur F-4E combined WSO and Pilot Cockpit textures does not surpas 2.9 GB.

VR performance in this module is 10-15 FPS lower than all my other modules that run at about 68FPS on Quest 3.   Including Huey, Apache, Kiowa, Hind, Blackhawk Mod, and several jets.  Can’t afford to loose this much FPS, almost unplayable.  Same settings and same map.  Did repair, cleanup, deleted save game shaders and FXO files and no difference. Any ideas?  Thanks.

Non-VR player here, FPS is definitely noticeably worse than other modules.

On servers loaded with multiplayer, there are even losses of 20 to 30fps... it reminds me of the release of Appache. It's very boring.

Hopefully this will get resolved with further updates. My 4070TI Super with 16GB can't run the Apache in VR without overloading VRAM and causing headset artificacting. It's easily resolved by setting textures to medium, but needing more than 12GB of VRAM in a card is just rediculous and needs optimization. There is absolutely no need for such large texture sizes.

I had the same issue with low FPS since this latest update and it translated into other modules, especially helicopters. It was apparent that the game was struggling to load shaders. After looking at what had changed, I noticed that "Full Screen" had somehow become un-checked. I tried to re-check it through the loading screen without result. I then did it through Skatezilla's GUI and it worked.

I now have high 20s in FPS for the CH-47 and it is flyable but other modules have high 40s FPS.

It's early access...

Devs, any files that I can upload in order to help troubleshoot?

For the record here's my PC specs.

CPU - AMD Ryzen 5 7600X
MOBO - Gigabyte B650 Aorus Elite AX
Memory - G.Skill DDR5-6000 (4 ea 16Gb. Total 64 Gb) P/N: F5-6000J3238F16G-fx5
Graphics card - PNY GeForce RTX 4080
Storage - 2 each 2TB P3 NVMe PCIe 3.0 M.2 Internal SSD
VR - Pimax Crystal using OpenXR latest build
OS - Mindows 11 Pro 64 bit

EDIT:

Looking at posts above, it seems that there is an overload in the textures dept. of the Chinook. I don't need eye candy as much as I need playability. I understand that it's a constant balancing act.

I don't have an Uber machine but it's not shabby. What about all of the others with lesser specs? Bad business to force them to turn all settings to the bottom just for eye candy's sake.

I have reduced the texture sizes for all the ,argest textures and bought the cimplete packed size down to 0.5GB and performance is now good.

I have very few artifacts with these reduced textures, so I will try to be a bit more conservative by only reducing the cargo compartment textures and see what that brings.

Stay tuned.....

So that's why it takes such a damn long time to load in? I was wondering if something was wrong with my SSD. Need to sit there for almost two minutes for the cockpit to fully load in, which is really bad. You can't tell me it's more detailed or complex than F4 and even that loads in for me in seconds!

I also have crappy performance compared to all other modules. It is using a lot of VRAM. I am on a 3080 and the afghanistan instant action and also even the training missions perform poorly.

I've followed your lead and reducing textures to half gives a huge improvement... Of course one would need to fly it and test the feeling for a proper amount of time, but so far it does feels and sees quite ok 🙂
