In short, bought the CH-47 and I'm noticing significantly worse performance than with other helicopters or modules. I'm guessing that could be in part due to being in early access or whatnot, but still wanted to either hear other user feedback, or perhaps confirm whether that is in fact to be expected and maybe even further optimization is planned.

Cheers!

What I've read so far is that the cockpit textures are relatively large. Players have had performance improvements by manually reducing texture size using a variety of tools. You might want to search this forum for some ideas in this regard. I think ED are aware and are looking at performance improvements down the road as well.

I'd hope that the process would be shared. I've searched and haven't found anything concrete. Only that it needs to be done.

Free program called Paint.net. You might need a DDS plugin, I'm not sure exactly. Basically just open the texture files in that program. Most of them are 4096x4096px. Resize those to 2048x2048 (half), save as the same DDS (DXT5 with mipmaps I believe), and you're good. Well, probably not good if you fly online with IC-on servers. For me, adjusting external textures improved performance. I didn't need to touch the cockpit textures.

A bat file to convert the liveries and cockpit textures would be perfect.
Thanks. I'll give the conversion a go when I've got a free day.

I just wonder why the textures are so big from the outset.

Most people probably don´t have 16GB+ GPU's

I guess most customers want a flight simulator and not a screenshot generator.

Seems to be a trend for the latest ED modules (Mi-24, AH-64D and CH-47F).

Look at the Heatblur F-4E, the VRAM footprint for the Cockpit textures are much smaller and still it looks amazing.

It's all a matter of optimization, really. Like I said, we're working on it.

Looking forward to the fix because as it stands right now its unplayable.

My Nvidia 4090 is melting with the ch47, all other modules are working smoooooth... But only the ch47 gives my a lot of stutters.

Is there a way we can help with the issue?

Man, performance on this one is bad. I have a 4090, 7950x, 64G DDR5, and VR in the Chinook is still nearly pointless. I see they were working on it in September. Still working on it?

I have a really old computer, and I did the texture resize mod, and it worked last fall, performance wise. But then, the Chinook was updated with some fixes regarding the texture loading or something. And now the mod does nothing for it, while it does for other modules. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Yes the only thing that does work is reducing Textures to Medium - just for this 1 module.

Yeh. That ain’t going to happen. I pay good money for the module I want to be able to use it as intended not degrade it so I’ll wait until it’s fixed

If you haven't seen it, @zbysiek made a script to reduce texture sizes. With it you can override only CH47F's textures, instead of reducing everythink to medium

The Apache also had some performance issues, as well. But, those got ironed out in a reasonable time frame.

I expect the same will happen to the CH-47, but it's surprising to see it take so long.

Reformers hate him! This one weird trick found by a bush pilot will make gunfighter obsessed old farts angry at your multi-role carrier deck line up!
