mattszymanko Posted August 24, 2024 Posted August 24, 2024 In short, bought the CH-47 and I'm noticing significantly worse performance than with other helicopters or modules. I'm guessing that could be in part due to being in early access or whatnot, but still wanted to either hear other user feedback, or perhaps confirm whether that is in fact to be expected and maybe even further optimization is planned. Cheers!
Yurgon Posted August 25, 2024 Posted August 25, 2024 What I've read so far is that the cockpit textures are relatively large. Players have had performance improvements by manually reducing texture size using a variety of tools. You might want to search this forum for some ideas in this regard. I think ED are aware and are looking at performance improvements down the road as well. 4

Only that it needs to be done. 1

Only that it needs to be done. Free program called Paint.net. You might need a DDS plugin, I'm not sure exactly. Basically just open the texture files in that program. Most of them are 4096x4096px. Resize those to 2048x2048 (half), save as the same DDS (DXT5 with mipmaps I believe), and you're good. Well, probably not good if you fly online with IC-on servers. For me, adjusting external textures improved performance. I didn't need to touch the cockpit textures. Edited August 28, 2024 by Nealius 2

A bat file to convert the liveries and cockpit textures would be perfect. Thanks. I'll give the conversion a go when I've got a free day. Edited August 28, 2024 by ST0RM 1
ED Team Lord Vader Posted September 2, 2024 ED Team Posted September 2, 2024 Hey all. We are aware of some user reports about performance. We will analyse possible optimizations for this module and thank you for your patience. 1 1 Esquadra 701 - DCS Portugal - Discord
fjacobsen Posted September 3, 2024 Posted September 3, 2024 I just wonder why the textures are so big from the outset. Most people probably don´t have 16GB+ GPU's I guess most customers want a flight simulator and not a screenshot generator. Seems to be a trend for the latest ED modules (Mi-24, AH-64D and CH-47F). Look at the Heatblur F-4E, the VRAM footprint for the Cockpit textures are much smaller and still it looks amazing. 2 1 | i7-10700K 3.8-5.1Ghz | 64GB RAM | RTX 4070 12GB | 1x1TB M.2. ED Team Lord Vader Posted September 3, 2024 ED Team Posted September 3, 2024 It's all a matter of optimization, really. Like I said, we're working on it. 1 3 Esquadra 701 - DCS Portugal - Discord

AndreNL Posted April 1 Posted April 1 My Nvidia 4090 is melting with the ch47, all other modules are working smoooooth... But only the ch47 gives my a lot of stutters. Is there a way we can help with the issue? 1
av8orDave Posted April 10 Posted April 10 Man, performance on this one is bad. I have a 4090, 7950x, 64G DDR5, and VR in the Chinook is still nearly pointless. I see they were working on it in September. Still working on it? 1

But then, the Chinook was updated with some fixes regarding the texture loading or something. And now the mod does nothing for it, while it does for other modules.
Raven (Elysian Angel) Posted April 12 Posted April 12 Yes the only thing that does work is reducing Textures to Medium - just for this 1 module. 1 Spoiler Ryzen 9 5900X | 64GB G.Skill TridentZ 3600 | Asus ProArt RTX 4080 Super | ASUS ROG Strix X570-E GAMING | Samsung 990Pro 2TB + 960Pro 1TB NMVe | VR: Varjo Aero Pro Flight Trainer Puma | VIRPIL MT-50CM2 grip on VPForce Rhino with Z-curve extension | Virpil CM3 throttle | Virpil CP2 + 3 | FSSB R3L | VPC Rotor TCS Plus base with SharKa-50 grip | Everything mounted on Monstertech MFC-1 | TPR rudder pedals OpenXR | PD 1.0 | 100% render resolution | DCS graphics settings
Wood Posted Wednesday at 04:19 PM Posted Wednesday at 04:19 PM Yeh. That ain’t going to happen. I pay good money for the module I want to be able to use it as intended not degrade it so I’ll wait until it’s fixed Cheers Wood Windows 10, Intel i7-6700 CPU @3.40GHz, 32GB ram , GTX 4060Ti

With it you can override only CH47F's textures, instead of reducing everythink to medium Edited Wednesday at 05:25 PM by Darcaem 1

But, those got ironed out in a reasonable time frame. I expect the same will happen to the CH-47, but it's surprising to see it take so long. Reformers hate him! LuseKofte Posted Wednesday at 07:36 PM Posted Wednesday at 07:36 PM I have huge issues loading this chopper in MP it is by far the worst in that regard. I think they know, this bird will be updated a long time ahead
