This poll doesn't seem exhaustive enough.  With reverb g2 things seemed best before they messed with anything.

Right now the dots are too large but this system does seem to work better as it transition from a dot to a model. Previously The dots would be too large and then the larger model was very hard to spot maybe because of the way the dot changed. I could only spot well if the target was more than 10 miles out (but that might have been 2 updates ago) In the last update I think the dots were more reasonable but the system was still best in my case before it was messed with

This seems like a great way to get some biased data.

Are we talking 2D or VR?

If 2D what res?

If VR what headset and what settings?

What specific aspects of spotting are we talking about?

Max range of spotting? Dot size? Dot size in terms of immersion? Dots in terms of the shift from dots to no dots?

For 2D, nothing changed, so for a 2D user I'm okay with it (very flawed, but they are passable), so none of the options really work for me either. It would have made more sense to add more options or to specify that this was VR focused, since I think those are the responses you're really after.

You have to already know that a bad poll like this is going to produce inaccurate results, right?

The worst thing I could do is actually vote in your poll, because it's not even going to give the answer you're looking for. It's poorly thought out on multiple levels.

Non-VR. 2560x1440 screen

It is absolutely horrible now. When the enemy is 15 NM away and I zoom out I get thses huge blobs that are hard to miss, but when I zoom in they actually become smaller and are easy to miss. But when the planes get closer they are harder to see because the blobness dissappears.

I’m curious why there are nearly 40% in favor. Is that because:

A. In favor because they think it’s realistic. 

B. In favor because they simply like seeing dots and don’t care whether it’s realistic or how the game looks as long as it’s “fun”.

The current model is great.

Being able to reach visual around 8-10 nautical miles is the first thing. Otherwise air combat between Cold War and WWII airplanes is basically unfeasible.
As for whether that point is aesthetically pleasing, it can be slowly adjusted later.

And we know they know and they are working... since last year. Even when it was wrong or bad I could turn it off. But now it came to this - and I cannot do anything about it - I'm forced into blobs.

Yes, mostly these reasons - full realism is not very likable either in movies, games or even in study sims apparently. But also most monitor users are not affected in that bad way I hear. They like to easily spot the targets while keeping high fov. Some high res VR players also had problems before the patch.

Yes, correct. I'm a 2D player and for me the current system works pretty well. I have realistic (!) spotting ranges now, it's a little easier now than it was in all these years before and I am finally not losing aircraft in the near as easily as it was before. Like two years ago spotting in DCS was a nightmare for me, now it's quite ok.
