Somebody had to do it! 🙂

Overall I'm happy with the map. Looks really good in VR and performance over Bagdad is very decent.  This map has a lot of potential. Good job !

Another interesting fact is that this map uses something like "bump mapping" on the ground too. We no longer have a flat surface, but there are additional bulging elements here, which greatly diversifies the environment. It really looks great! ❤️

Again, not very good quality screenies (taken with VR), but you can clearly see what's going on.

Combined with the new "Haze" (if someone complains about the visibility of the horizon 😎) it looks really good!

Yes, we will never get mad if a customer wants to wait until its complete, if we waited until its complete the waiting time would most likely be the same. Many people like to join us on the development road, its a choice and can be a bumpy journey.

Lately, I have been waiting , for any number of reasons, but I had a deal with Fox2 Productions.  I promised ED I would by the map if they told me what that epic theme music was.  Ten minutes later, I was buying the map!  Thanks F2.  Most expensive song I ever bought. 😄

The map?  A bit constrained, but I knew that on purchase.  Love the detail, less impressed with the breadth, looking forward to the additions particularly some blue bases, HINT: Al Udeid.   You are including Al Udeid?......Right?

So far, I’m liking it. Definitely better  than Afghanistan at this point.  Some bland areas and some really gorgeous areas. But I’m so happy theres not hard edged high def “stickers” slapped all over. Much better on the blending techniques. My only gripe aside from the usual down low textures is it seems like the scenery (trees and buildings) LOD’s are very close. Need to be pushed out like 3 to 5x. Visibility on extreme and scenery and forest sliders all the way up and it feels more like everything is at minimum. Maybe they’re currently reduced for performance testing?  Other than that I feel like this is how an Early Access map should be. It’s not perfect,  but for sure it’s off to a very good start. Happy with this purchase.

Thanks for the Vid.

Map looks great. This and Syria are the best dessert maps in my opinion.

Anyway Afghan and Iraq maps I've been dreaming of since day 1 since I started playing this game, hopefully subsequent updates will make them look even better!

As far as I can see, the price on Steam hasn't changed...

So sorry, don't be angry ED... but I'm not paying another 70€ seventy EURO what a sum (even a AAA game sometimes costs less) for this card.

Has there ever been a discussion about the pricing policy of the maps? I'm ready for it, because the prices for the maps are way too high. Way too high! With every additional map, the community, which is shrinking rather than growing, is split even further. See Afghanistan... I now know more people who don't have this map than own it, the same will happen with Iraq!

The maps are clearly too expensive.

Sorry for the price issues on steam, we are working to get them fixed as soon as possible.

The maps are priced fairly in our opinion, we give discount for early access and also eventually are part of the normal sale.

The work the teams are doing cost money, we are a business and those costs have to be covered.

thank you

It almost certainly shouldn't be $70, that appears to be a Steam-specific issue as its $56.99 direct and was about $7 less again if you bought it prior to launch.

And no one says you have to buy every single map, just like you don't have to buy every single plane (I passed on buying Afghanistan but bought Iraq as I think it'll the more popular for user created content in time).

Limited initial impressions (i've only spent about an hour flying around so far) are fairly good. The mountain area is stunning (possibly the best in any map i've played so far) although I admit I wasn't blown away overflying Baghdad (not terrible, not great).

EDIT: Is there a list anywhere of currently implemented POIs on the map and their rough locations?

That entitlement when people act like it is kind of a human right everybody must be able to afford all and every DCS module 😅 Genuinely amazed what goes around in some folks heads nowadays.

70 bucks btw are about two evenings out drinking or having dinner at a restaurant, resulting in roughly a dozen hours of "entertainment". Rarely hear complains about this. Now do this cost/hour calculation with a map or module that has a high replayability (which most AAA do not have btw).

Hm i spend since 2021 around 1200€... So, i can pay all the stuff. That´s not the problem. But i can see a lot more who are no longer prepared to pay these prices. Because there are more and more people who do without it and opinions are growing that the prices are too high. And the willingness to buy new cards would be higher if the prices were halved.

Take a look online and see how many players are on Afghanistan? Or Kola? Or SA....

Just on a personal note, in late 2004, I used to drive from Mosul up to Dahuk and back every week from mid November and a little into January 2005.  I remember it being much more desert like.  I also remember seeing the snow line in the mountains aroudn Dahuk getting lower and lower every week too.  There wasn't nearly the scrub plants I see on this map on that route. I know that Mosul isn't done yet (the airfield and FOB Maraez aren't in yet and not real sure if FOB Freedom, where I was, looked like that either) though so maybe it's that.

Yeah, nah, not memories I wanted to keep.  Hated that place.  Dahuk was nice though.  I'll ask some of the guys though.  If fact, while the map was downloading I was getting a serious anxiety attack.

If a player believes a map is too expensive, it would be great DCS could provide the option to fly on free maps, different areas of course, one lets say with high mountains, and the other mostly ocean with islands, even online, even with other players using different modules without having to buy everything. I guess that would be a popular option for online like you said. But one only can wish huh.

Wow.  Very nice

Spent 1 hour flying over Bagdad in the Kiowa tonight

Detail in buildings and scenes and variety of structures is nothing short of spectacular

still needs a good deal optimisation from a performance perspective but very impressive even on first launch.  This is going to be one of EDs best maps in time

gkad I bought it

my humble opinion
