Robi Hobby Posted March 21 Posted March 21 Interflug hasn't existed since 1991. The GDR has been reunited with the FRG. No one will sue over any naming rights. 4 1

One of the key airports of the GDR, where both civilian and military aircraft were based. Interflug Tu-134s landed here, Air France and British Airways operated Concorde flights from Paris and London when the Leipzig fair was held. Could you make static objects of Tu-134/154 and other Soviet military transport aircraft (as well as you made civilian aircraft on the Syria map). Thank you. 8 Мои авиафото
RhineHornet Posted March 21 Posted March 21 Hello devs! I hope this can be useful for developing Bitburg Airbase on your awesome map. https://ia600901.us.archive.org/12/items/N10Bitburg/Nº 10 Bitburg.pdf 3 3 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
OhNoMyHookBroke Posted March 21 Posted March 21 (edited) Could the developers provide some low-flying helicopter footage to give us a better sense of what the ground will look like? (not including the cities or densely populated areas) I like the outline of the ground from high altitudes (keyword, high alts), but as some users have mentioned in this thread, it does appear to be the fake shadow textures. I think this could be fixed with texture LODs and various ground textures and surface types that can be algorithmically combined based on the satellite imagery (hopefully I'm using the right terms ), instead of the infamous digital zoom sat imagery, which I believe casts those weird, flat "shadows." I know it's WIP, but I personally don't want to see the same stuff that we see in Iraq and Afghanistan. I do trust Ugra to deliver a fantastic product, so I hope it all turns out well and that I'm simply incorrect. I am judging something clearly WIP lol And I'm mainly a helicopter guy, which means I want the main thing I'll be looking at (the ground) to be good, and this map is perfect for the BO-105, so I of course flock to the maps that have a ground like Normandy 2.0 Edited March 21 by OhNoMyHookBroke 9
OneEyeRoss Posted March 21 Posted March 21 The road from Bad Hersfeld to Fulda would be a great chopper flight, or Alsfeld to Lauterbach. Take a Huey down either 7 or 27 at about 500 feet....When I get the map, I'm taking a jeep from Friedberg on 275 to Lauterbach, then the 254 to Alsfeld. I want to see how close it is to what reality was.... 3

Perhaps a short video, following Moselle river? (Few times a year I "fly" through this beautiful area on my motorcycle. Bremspropeller Posted March 22 Posted March 22 (edited) Spoiler Spoiler I think this shot of Sembach looks very promising. I have driven along the perimeter road (next to the fence in his shot) last year and for DCS, this looks very nice indeed. What I like most is how good the airfields are looking. There is one highly unrealistic thing, though, in Leipzig: the weather. It should always be damp, with a slow drizzle and discouragingly low clouds. MAESTR0 Posted March 22 Author Posted March 22 And now we are going to the very heart of the Cold War - to the military bases of the GDR and FRG, as well as to the legendary Teufelsberg. On the map "Cold War" you will find dozens of military bases, placed based on historical data. These are your starting points, landmarks or targets. Teufelsberg is not just a hill in West Berlin (all the garbage from all over Berlin was dumped there, which is how this mountain was formed), but a legendary radio interception station. Here the Americans set up their radar and listened to "conversations behind the Iron Curtain". Military base FRG Military base GDR The Helmstedt–Marienborn border crossing by the German Democratic Republic (GDR), was the largest and most important border crossing on the Inner German border during the division of Germany. Rügen is Germany's largest island. During the Cold War, it was a strategically important site for the GDR and the USSR. It housed military installations that played a key role in the defense and surveillance of the Baltic Sea. ---------------------------------------------- und - Schenk mir einen Bitburger ein Get your "BT" stencils ready to apply these letters to the tails of your F-15s Bitbutg Air Base From 1952 until 1994, Bitburg Air Base was a front-line NATO air base. cfrag Posted March 22 Posted March 22 (edited) You now have officially crossed the line from 'teasing' to 'torture'. My credit card is shivering in anticipation. So am I. 1 hour ago, MAESTR0 said: Teufelsberg is not just a hill in West Berlin (all the garbage from all over Berlin was dumped there, which is how this mountain was formed) Slight correction, perhaps a mis-translation: Teufelsberg ("devil's mountain" transliterated) was formed using the debris and rubble from bombed-out Berlin after WW II. The listening post is iconic, and the Huey tour made me salivate over my keyboard, shame on you! Edited March 22 by cfrag 9 2

flanker1 Posted March 22 Posted March 22 (edited) @MAESTR0 Incredible amazing, Maestro. . . I can only repeat: As a cold war child behind the iron curtain, a dream becomes true. I will have tears in my eyes when first flight in a MiG-29 from a soviet aerodrome near my hometown where I grew up, with eveyday and often night full burner noise in my ears and dogfighting over my head. Just wow! As for Bitburg Bluefor Airbase, please show us some detail pictures from Damgarten soviet aerodrome. Please tease! And will there MiG-25RBT´s and BM´s from Werneuchen airfield? They play a key role for the soviet doctrine and strategy. And will there be MiG-25PD´s for Eberswalde/Finowfurt ready for hunting/intercepting SR-71 Blackbirds coming in from Mildenhall? That was their daily task and life in the 80ies. . . https://www.maz-online.de/brandenburg/gefaehrliche-spiele-in-finow-5633F4JNGW5DR2VECSLTRU2QCM.html Edited March 23 by flanker1 2
Duck21 Posted March 23 Posted March 23 It's wonderful to see all these previews of Germany in DCS, can't wait! There's only one thing that I hope can be changed for release, and I know it has been talked about in other posts as well; Looking at all the airport previews you seem to have modelled ALL aprons, ALL taxiways and ALL runways to be sidelined by a strip of dirt before the grass starts. This just doesn't look right. Of course I'm aware that such spots and strips of dirt/dry grass exist, it's not that I want to see them all gone. But please change your airports so that the brown doesn't appear on the sides of EVERY apron, taxiway and runway. Thanks! 3 2

RhineHornet Posted March 23 Posted March 23 Wow, Bitburg already looks beautiful. Great efforts from the dev team! As Duck21 mentioned above, the dirt strips sidelining the runway and taxiways at Bitburg could maybe be reduced or omitted? You can see it here when comparing the WIP screenshot with an aerial photo of Bitburg airbase in 1988. Keep up the great work! 10 3 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Retnek Posted March 23 Posted March 23 @MAESTR0 Another childhood in Cold-War-Germany here - all-in-all very promising, thanks! I really enjoy looking at the car-parks, good effect to place the proper set of cars. Could you please show some pictures / clips with covered skies and rain? Good old Germany looks a bit too friendly to me, it's clean and colourful right now. That might be an effect of good weather and sunshine. But especially the centre of large cities, marshalling-yards and large factories appeared MUCH more dusty and gray-ish. In my memories at least. Brushing up the cities, more colours and less dirt came into effect in the (late) 1990th for the FRG. Remembering some journeys to the former GDR in the early 90th a "deep industrial over-all-grey-brown" was the omni-present primary colour. Even stronger than in the industrial areas of the FRG. 6 "Those who admire me for my 275 kills know nothing about war" Günther Rall
