@Thamiel Please also note that I, being Polish, only mentioned one airport from the territory of my country, which de facto belonged to the USSR, and which seems to me to be an important point on the map considering its nature.

In my opinion, you would make all french pilots happy to have France represented on your great map when you release the phase 3 of this great map.

Not mentioning Nancy and Luxeuil, which seem to drop in the phase 3 perimeter !

Please Ugra, pleaaaaaaaase ! 😬

I find your lack of FPS disturbing...

Its the first map of a highly industrialized and developed area where today in RL lots of people have the time and are actually capable and willing to invest thousands of euro into hardware and software just to play a particular computer game, not counting the service members who were stationed here during that time and do so from somewhere else for sentimental reasons. Of course, this map is hyped.

You could easily talk all day long about areas, airbases, military sites all over the place, not just at the edges or the extensions planned. Apparently, we do so right here: "Lots of work if you want to do it right, and lots of critics if you fail." This map will obviously push the limits. But if you want to have something, you have to give something. Curiously enough, nobody talks about that, do they? I could complain about a full fledged military airbase active 'til 1977 just 20 minutes down the road from where I live. I could complain about forgotten Matador sites in the Bitburg region rusting long enough for me to be amazed by the sheer size their metal drop gates just 10 years ago.

Would it increase the immersion of the map if those installations would be recognizable from the air? The majority of players wouldnt even know where to look.

Rome wasnt built in one day, also i dont think anyone is giving even a small ammount of criticism? i dont understand why youre complaining about something that is not even happening, of course, some people are sad because their "favourite area" is out of bounds, but you have to know that giving ideas or talking about something that could be added doesnt equals to "asking for a favourite airfield" i dont understand why some people give it such reason, Im pretty sure a lot of people will show their excitement, happiness and support by buying the map day one, without caring if their "favourite part" will be modelled or no, its up to Ugra where they will "draw their lines" on the map, our limit will be the creativity of the stuff we will do on it.

Maybe I'm wrong, if so, correct me. I see a friendly atmosphere in this thread and it seems to me that these are just our proposals, loose suggestions of what could be added to the map. We all realize that the final decision belongs to Ugra and none of us will have any complaints. At most, a small regret that it didn't work out. 😛

I have to give something from myself, but I do. I pay the creator for their work by buying their map.

DCS CW map has a size of 890km x 900km = 801.000 km², requiring 205GB SSD space. Whole Europe (excl. Greenland, incl. Russia west of Ural) is about 10,5 mio km². that's approx. 13x the size.  I assume lesser populated areas with less airports, cities etc. should also require less memory size. Phase IV++ map might fit on a 2TB SSD and will definetly fit on a 4TB SSD.

Just to plan your next SSD purchase😀

Really looking forward to the map.

However, as others already mentioned there seems to be large gap in Schleswig-Holstein, being part of the map but actually none of the airfields there on the list, so a large empty space?

Great map! 🙏👍

And i see Florennes air base in the ardennes , east belgium is not mentioned? Pretty important base ! 🙃

For those people needing reference material:  FM 100-5 Operations  is a good read.  It is obsolete by now, and an easy to find reference, both the 82 and 86 editions.  (I am so old we were using the 1976 edition!).  (https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/70/US_Army_Field_Manual_100-5%2C_1982.pdf)  There are several critics of the manual written (I am guessing by officers going to the Staff College) but even with it's critics it is a good idea of what the doctrine was.

Another thing to read, but from the 78-79 era: The Value of Field Fortifications in Modern Warfare  (The Fulda Gap stuff starts on page 83)

And also no mention of Sanicole Airfield, the tank piste and shooting ranges there between Hechtel and Leopoldsburg, Sanicole was a training field associated with Kleine Brogel up to recently and the ranges are still in use, we hear them almost every day 🙂 They still drop paratroopers over Sanicole.

Then there are the training areas at Molenheide and Houthalen-Helechtren, the H-H range is used by aircraft to drop ordnance and while the A10s were here they used it for tank plinking I could hear the Brrrrt of the GAU8 in Eksel and while I was working in Zonhoven they regularly flew overhead.

Yep, those guys at CGSC had to write a paper about something....  There are some really good ones out there, if a person takes the time to search through them.

Here's another period FM to read:  https://irp.fas.org/doddir/army/fm100-2-1.pdf

Any Updater 2.17.3.11 issues to install the map?

After completing the download about 50 minutes later, it is now slowly unpacking.

It froze unpacking at about the halfway point and mostly stopped downloading with 4 Gb to go, or oscillated up to only 2-3 MB/s.  Previously I was getting 10 MB/s.

By that point I would hope the long anticipated unified globe with a significant change in map storage and handling will have come by. The way some of the maps have been made lately looks to be very intentionally avoiding overlaps.

I wonder if there's any possibility to use existing map data from Google Earth, Google Maps etc. for DCS. This should save a lot of work and make complete earth available.

Sources like that can be used as a starting point certainly, but there is still a massive amount of work to then get to a finished and polished product.
