MAESTR0 Posted Monday at 06:00 PM Posted Monday at 06:00 PM Hi We are currently actively working on Cold War Germany phase 2 and decided to find out your wishes in order to find original objects/locations that we can additionally include in the list and without which it is impossible to release phase 2. Your wishes for phase 1 were very valuable, hints from local residents, guys who served in the service were very informative. Based on them, we adjusted the list: airfields, hangar types and much more were added. The goal of this topic: to find objects that are most important for the map: they played a significant role in the Cold War, it can be a landmark for navigation (antennas, towers, etc.), quarries without which the territory does not look like itself, a warehouse or a base. Or maybe some landmark without which the city loses its appearance? The idea with the city of Mannheim and “Kalimandscharo” seemed interesting to us. If you previously wrote wishes, you can duplicate the link to the topic. Let me remind you that we are looking at the entire Wishlist section, and in this topic we want to collect what you think is necessary to release Phase 2, and based on the responses and likes we will determine what to do first. 5 7

TheBiggerBass Posted Monday at 06:28 PM Posted Monday at 06:28 PM (edited) I was quite surprised not to find Bonn, the west german capital during the cold war phase already included in phase I of CW Germany. I hope it's included in phase II at least. Btw: I also do not see the "Hardthöhe" in Bonn, which was - and still is - the location of the german ministry of defense during CW time. It is the german equivalent of the pentagon which I guess was - and still is - a major target for Warshaw Pact forces. NRG-Vampire Posted Monday at 06:38 PM Posted Monday at 06:38 PM (edited) DCS (and this map too) needs map-object-glass-material for rendering .REF 3D models/packages. Something similar to what .EDM models use. I see that this glass-material is completely missing from the screenshots (and from the current map-object-3D-models on/of other maps), such as the windshields of the vehicles, the windows of the hangars and control towers etc. Edited Monday at 06:40 PM by NRG-Vampire 2
Bremspropeller Posted Monday at 06:46 PM Posted Monday at 06:46 PM (edited) Awesome idea, thanks for your continuous work based on feedback from the community! Three to four things just from the top of my mind and in no particular order: 1) Hermannsdenmal in Teutoburg Forrest near Detmold https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hermannsdenkmal Spoiler That antenna in the background may or may not qualify on the timescale. 2) RAFG Harrier roadbase(s) (someone had made a thread about one near Detmold) 3) Communication Towers (not sure if the list is all encompassing, but it's a strter anyway) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Communication_towers_in_Germany https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kategorie:Deutsche_Funkturm Take this one as an example, which is close to Bückeburg (just left of the frame) and Rinteln (just to the right): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jakobsberg_Telecommunication_Tower Spoiler 4) Kaiser Wilhelm Denkmal at Porta Westfalica (seen in pic above) Spoiler Edited Monday at 06:56 PM by Bremspropeller 3 So ein Feuerball, JUNGE!

The perimeter walls should be substituted for fences. I think you could also go a little bit easy on the objects standing around and slightly reduce the clutter. The way I remember a GAF airbase, it was always quite tidy. Also, you can remove all of the big, black light masts on the GAF and GAM bases. and then there is the thing with the ground textures. No sand on GAF and GAM bases please. Also no bushes or trees in the flightline areas! Edited Tuesday at 06:56 PM by Volator 5 2 1./JG71 "Richthofen" - Seven Eleven
flanker1 Posted Monday at 09:03 PM Posted Monday at 09:03 PM @MAESTR0 you did a great job so far and thank you for all of this and this initiative in advance! It´s very welcome and a right way to achieve customer success and work with feedback, well done!! 3 very good sources, with much information and pictures and stories about the soviet air force in GDR: Sitemap The Russian Air Force in East Germany Sperrgebiet.eu - Bunkers and military installations documented Mainly it is about realistically depicting the Soviet airfields of the era, with all their specific buildings, facilities, and expansions. Primarily the HAS (AU-11 - AU-16 and also AU-19) with camouflage, realistic (squadron) ammunition depots, GRANITS (maximum 1 per airfield with 1 or 2 gates on each side, accessible from both sides), squadron service buildings, aircraft recovery systems at the end of the runway, and ideally a realistic tower and buildings corresponding to the era and Soviet style with camouflage. (KDP - not these oversized NATO style towers). Please add the specific radar systems for red airfields, radar hills as they are available in Sperenberg for all other bases too and models for PRW-13/17, P-14, P-18, etc., P-37. Add RSP-7, etc. Also please add the Gate Guard MiG-15 on a pedestal for Damgarten, Wittstock, Merseburg and Zerbst, etc... There were also MiG-21, -23, -17, -19 and Su-7 Gate Guardians at the Soviet bases, maybe you can bring them too. Please add the SKP (ZiL-130 9MV) for Damgarten and Wittstock etc. on the edges of the runway! Please make all these models also accessible via the Mission Editor. There were 3 different types of HAS in GDR, AU-11 - AU-16 varying mainly in size but also in design. DEFINITELY ALL HAD ROLLING DOORS ON TRACKS. Please add the doors, they were never without on active duty AND please add also EXHAUST CHANNELS going outside and OUTSIDE WORKSHOP ROOMS. Many Red airfield also had the massive exhaust recoil concrete walls Blast walls at the pre flight lanes. Please add this for immersion and a more realistic gameplay. Shelters for the personnel, a fighter command post, and camouflaged shelters/bunkers for vehicles. The GRANIT bunker is somewhat too massive and was almost always accessible from both sides. Some more specific designs rather than the same as on NATO airfields, especially the KDP/towers of the soviets were much more diferrent and old school. They often use WW2 German Luftwaffe infrastructure, equipment und buildings Good luck, and let me know if I can provide you and the team with sources and material. 1 1

The following would make the Phase 2 release a success in my opinion: In addition to what you are already planning on creating for Phase 2 I would like to see... Fixed NLP Adelsheim and more NLPs in general. All of which can be looked up on https://www.mil-airfields.de/index.html Fixed topography of airfields. Currently, all airfields and runways are flat as a board. Pferdsfeld being among the biggest offenders. A GAF fighter airbase More historical SAM site locations ideally with more accurate representation of the individual infrastructure differences (currently you are using two templates per side as far as I can tell) Looking forward to more updates to this great map! 2

Maybe in Phase 2 the following airbases could be included: - Cottbus (LSK/LV JG-1 with MiG-15, -17, -21; later KHG-3 with Mi-24) - https://www.mil-airfields.de/de/cottbus.htm - Drewitz (LSK/LV JG-7 with MiG-21; JBG-37 with MiG-17 / MiG-23BN) - https://www.mil-airfields.de/de/drewitz.htm - Kleinköris (LSK/LV reserve airfield for JG-7) - https://www.mil-airfields.de/de/kleinkoeris.htm - Alteno (LSK/LV reserve airfield for JG-1) - https://www.mil-airfields.de/de/alteno.htm And AFAIK still missing from Phase 1: - Strausberg airbase (LSK/LV VFS-14 with An-2, L-410 etc.)
