Ukraine Map

    I propose adding a map of Ukraine and the neighboring regions of Belarus, Russia, Moldova, Poland, Slovakia and Hungary where map will extend approximately 150 km in from the northern and eastern borders. This is a good idea because a wide range of weaponry is currently being used in the conflict in Ukraine, and most of it is represented in DCS.

Ukrainian Air Force (Equipment already implemented in DCS is underlined)

F-16C, MiG-29A, Su-24, Su-25 FC3, Su-27 FC3, Mirage 2000, Mi-8, L-39 Yak-52, Mi-24  Su-17/22 Historical , Other Western platforms in the future.

 

Russian Air Force (Equipment already implemented in DCS is underlined)

Su-27 FC3, MiG-29, Su-30/35 [Flanker Project Mod], Su-25 FC3 ,MiG-31, MiG-35, Su-24, Su-34, A-50 AI, L-39, Ka-50, Ka-52, Mi-8, Mi-24, Mi-28, Su-17/22 Historical

 

This map could also encourage players to purchase Eastern aircrafts, and potentially FF Su-27 in the future. To further enhance the map's realism, it could have two versions: one set before 2014 and one set after, allowing players to choose whether cities are damaged or intact, as well as selecting a winter or autumn textures, because this region changes significantly depending on the time of year, and this will also finally allow to create a detailed Crimea, without remastering Caucasus.

 

   Also, to further increase the map’s potential, it could feature a relatively large number of airfields. This list only shows airfields within Ukraine it's hard to imagine the total number if we will include those from neighboring countries.

I believe most users would like this map because it's been requested several times. Though many rather wants an expansion of the Caucasus. Unfortunately ED has stated many times they won't do it because of the current conflict.

Besides, do you have any source that ED said they won’t make a Ukraine map because of current conflict? As for the Caucas, it’s true there’s a lot of work to be done on it, but there’s one major problem. The Caucas map is free, and ED isn’t a charity organization. In my opinion, there’s a higher chance of seeing a paid Ukraine map, or at least a paid remaster of the Caucasus than any update to current Caucas.

Most wishes are for expansion of the Caucasus map, probably why you don't find it.

They have removed Crimea and stated it's not planned. Pretty easy to read between the lines.

True. You can wish all you want. I suppose we'll have Ukraine when the whole world map drops.

I can't point to the exact thread where they said it, but ED has definitely indicated (on more then one occasion IIRC) there is ZERO chance of getting Ukraine or Crimea with current conflict going on in that area.

They gave us a free ww2 Marianas map so a Caucasus update is not impossible.

Not impossible but there’s far more terrain as well as map objects, etc on the Caucasus map than the WWII Marianas map to deal with.

AND…I’d love to have a map like the OP suggests. Won’t live long enough to see it, though.

What Ironhand said. It would be amazing, no doubt, but the region is too politically challenged, and too recently. 

 

If peace isn't signed tomorrow, and Perestrojka 2.0 follows the day after, forget either Russia or Ukraine permitting this.

I don´t realy see why the political situation prevents them from making an Ukrain map, since the Syria map also covers some active conflict zones and the syrian civil war lastet till december last year. The conflicts in this region also included the participation of both Russia and the US and even consisted a direct engagement bethween US troops and Wagner. So I would asume that a Ukrain theatre would not overcome the Syria map neither by political nor by humanitarian concerns. 

 

But I´m not sure if the russia-urkain war would be a the right thing to experiance in DCS, since this war is widely dominated by drones which we just not have in DCS. And great air campaigns just don´t seem to happen there. Other maps like Korea and of course Vietnam or even the upcoming Balkans would make much more sence in my opinion. And of course finishing Iraq for finally getting some serious desert storm and iraqi freedom content on the road.

Its fine to discuss here, but a reminder we will not have political discussion about the current conflict here on the forum, its very real for all the people involved and very upsetting, and that is the last thing we want DCS to be associate with. DCS is for entertainment and for having fun with.

The Caucasus map was updated when DCS 2.5 was released, I doubt it will be updated again so soon.

Not to mention Israel/Gaza in the Sinai map, GWoT in Afghanistan & Iraq, and the recently announced Balkans.  All very real for some on here too.  I understand that they don't want to do Ukraine, and that's fine, but the reasoning is somewhat illogical IMHO.

Good points. However, I don't think that Ukr map is a really interesting choice for DCS. We have caucasus with Turkey, Crimea, Romania and parts of some Urkainian oblasts. If only those were populated by airfields and buildings, that would make the most popular DCS map so much better.

The reasons are understandable. But I have to say that there is another flight sim that recently released Odessa map. I understand that it's a ww2 version, but still, it is what it is. Have you considered naming the map like "Caucasus 2000" and this way avoid all the politics?

I see, thanks. If a side party decided to make the mentioned terrains in their pre war state would ED allow it?

No third party have considered it as a terrain, so its not something I could answer. I expect it would be treated like any other potential project.

That would be incorrect, and ignorant of the reasons why Caucasus was chosen/made in the first place. It's based on the 2008 timeframe, for obvious reasons.
