ARMA 2 update 1.05

"Bohemia Interactive releases new sneak peek teaser video showing free downloadable content in forthcoming ARMA 2 patch

As a continuous commitment to its dedicated fans, Bohemia Interactive, an award winning independent development studio, and IDEA Games, an association of independent developers located in the Czech Republic, today release an exclusive sneak peek teaser video together with pack of four screenshots introducing the forthcoming patch which will upgrade the military simulator ARMA 2 to version 1.05.

The video, available for download at http://www.arma2.com, introduces the bonus campaign “Eagle Wing“ featuring the new AH-64 Apache attack helicopter. The “Eagle Wing“ mini-campaign expands upon one of the seven unique endings of the original ARMA 2 over two extensive new levels; It's the year 2012, the war in Chernarus has overgrown into a conflict between the USA and the Russian Federation. The player finds themselves caught in the middle of an escalating conflict. As a pilot of the AH-64 Apache attack helicopter, the player's task seems easy - to get behind enemy lines and attack. However the situation is about to change rapidly...

Amongst other things the 1.05 patch features a new warfare mode "When Diplomacy Fails", including 3-side support for diplomacy between all factions allowing players to enjoy the strategic part of the game in a size never seen before. Warfare mode is a unique gaming experience first introduced in ARMA: Armed Assault. The mode combines tactical FPS gameplay with strategic elements which allow players to either join the fight in the front lines attacking the enemy directly, or to crush them in a commander position giving orders to other players whilst managing resources and the main base. Moreover each player is allowed to lead his own squad. Up to 32 players are supported, this multiplayer mode is a true war experience.

ARMA 2 patch 1.05 will be released later in December 2009."

there is partial concealment within the grass. I.E when prone the lower half of the body is concealed. i believe its been implemented in 1.05. but not expereinced it yet.

Quite incredible what BIS has done for 1.05 patch. the AH64D is a pleasure to fly and use. Eagle Wing campaign being very exciting indeed. on a twilight mission in early morning a small scale nuke has been detonated , the apache crash killing my pilot gunner, i find myself in enemy territory and no knowledge of what to expect. I have an mp5 with 2 clips. about to recon 3 enemy camps.....

Overall perfomance has been increased severly, it appears to be the optimised mil-sim everyone wants.. thoroughly enjoyable game now.

using Ace2 is excellent too.

Just wish there was driver support for the ATI 5970, performance is absolutely diabolical.

Go back to Nvidia cards, they work with games.

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.

One amazing thing in this patch is the native support for FreeTrack! Bohemia seems to have listened to its fans! =D

So please provide screen-shots from multiplayer and show how grass actually works for seeing ppl @ longer distances). Is it finally fixed, or still major gameplay flaw.

indeed they are terrible. whilst analogue support has been added it still does not work incrementaly. Keyboard is alot easier and more responsive. Its fair to say you shouldnt buy this game based on your love for flying aircraft. However on a purely tactical basis u can have a heck of a lot of fun with it.

Very true.

The flight models in any of the series (OFP, ArmA, ArmA2) have never been realistic. Better FM's than the BF series, but definitely not simulator realism at all.

Think of ArmA2 as a first person, real time strategy game most often played in simgle player or online coop. The infantry gound pounding is what the overall game focuses on. It really shines when you are playing online missions with no or limited respawns and fixed loadouts.

It's out! If anyone gets it and plays it, let me know if the grass actually provides concealment.

Oo...great game, really. But not in case of the campaign in my opinion, because of bugs in the missions and very simple story line. Much more interesting and realistic is online gameplay. Now im not playing, just a break for a couple of months. Have a temper - have a play))

no matter what i do i cant get above 25 frames per second :( and i have 4 gigs of ram an ATI 3870 and an intell C2D 3ghtz E8400  its unplayable even with my machine? heavily optimized? i think not! BI does not no how to optimize themselves out of a cardboard box! Bad video drivers or something? i am at a loss.

3870 is not enough for this game! For some comfort you need a card like GTX285. This needs a lot of video RAM too. Maybe optimization is not so good as it may be, but look at the graphics and game space - its amazing. In what game did you seen similar level with such realism - ballistics for example?) This is a natural simulator. And "real" simulators were always not for their age - i mean hard for them) And ArmA 2 is not exception)

Upgrading from my old 1950xtx to a 5770 saw some improvement with my aging computer I had.... once I got an i7 it totally changed everything and now I'm getting about the same performance I had before, but every single visual setting is set to a higher level.

The right man in the wrong place makes all the difference in the world.

i was not complimenting on any kind of lack of realism or detail, ArmA 2 is absolutely incredible!!! I am just a bit frustrated that the game is not optimized well and a few years ago i spent a fortune on this rig i have now. take a look at the first ArmA, game release there was no optimization and with how many patches later it is light years ahead of where it began. my system is a really good system, its not the BEST system of course but i think my system should be able to get above 25 frames per second with everything on low? they have engineered a game where only the rich can play?!?

Well, it is just a matter of time - in one year today's high-end setup will be much cheaper.....

And this year will be used to get ARMA2 in even better shape, with new patches, campaigns, Add-Ons and optimizations.

Personally I (still) see it as a tech-demo of what can be done.

It is not perfect yet, still with some bumps, the vehicles' simulation is way too shallow, but: this is how the future of military simulations might look like... the direction it is developing is promising ....

Add a more solid network-code (maybe even MMO?!), and voilà - one might end up with the perfect simulation .... one day .... *cough* year .... *cough* decade! ;)

Absolutely! one thing that i think of from your post weasel, is a conversation i had with a group of buddies of mine in 3rd squad back in the day when the first ArmA was what all the fuss was about.... the conversation was about, what if there were 2 games such as ArmA for its incredible ground combat and infantry simulation, and another game like Black Shark for its incredible helicopter simulation.... Who had the same network code and map for multilayer online where if i wanted to play as a infantry man on the ground fighting my brains out i could hop into a game like ArmA and a buddy of mine could support from the air theoretically in a sim like black shark. just mentioning these games as an example of what could be in the future. as to where instead of one inCREDIBLY taxing game to simulate everything known to man and every scientific equation representing the physics of flight and bullet travel wind and everything.... you could have 2 games split the taxing power where each game could both be intertwined in its network code. where if you hop in the helo portion of the sim you will see your buddies on the ground as slightly less detail as the ground grunt in the other game would see his buddies next to him, because the helo sim is meant to represent helo simulation of course, and fighting above and along side of your friends who might be in the ground combat portion of the game. something like that could be really interesting. anyway there's my fantasy someday 2 cents for the day :P

This need a global simulation virtual space. Based on single engine with many addons from real life, such as Earth landscape. I thought about that too) Some games are very close to this in their specialization - FSX) If were talking about FPS gameplay or manipulating i think in first 15 years its almoust unreal) And commercial part of it is one of the main halters) And you are surprising - why is your card so slow in ArmA 2)) I can asure you - GTX275 on Core i7 920 is enough for ArmA 2 to play on very high with little discomfort) Maybe Bohemia spent more time optimizing this?)

PS^ or maybe all is result of world conspiracy because they afraid of matrix))
