gauge above your head?

any one know what the gauge above your head is for in BS? I know it's not functional in game, but what is it for in the real Ka-50?

Looks like an external temp gauge... +5 -> -10 degrees.... This is only my guess tho :)

Yes. its the OAT (outside air temperature). Unfortunately, it's not functional. If you want to look at the OAT, read the briefing, or look at your EGT gauge and your oil temp gauge.

Interesting, shouldn't be that hard to implent the outside air temperature? And I think it will be useful to have a clue how effective your rotors will be (which changes by temperature).

Mmm... Yes that's interesting. With all that system simulation, one little detail, like the OAT gauge, shouldn't be to hard to do... I like to think that it's INOP and the MMEL says "time to repair indefinitely". lol

Well, you got anti-ice warning in game, but it's probably activated by altitude rather than temperature. Shame, ED guys didn't implement temperature sensor :/

The game models the outside air temperature properly, you just don't know what it is. Well, actually you get the temp on the ground in your briefing, and you can apply the standard lapse rate to determine what it will be at altitude, but what a pain. I hope the OAT gauge gets put in one of these days.

 

I think the ABRIS will show you what the temps are at the assigned altitudes of your various waypoints on the flight plan page...I can't remember and I can't check it right now.

I get ice warnings when I fly 2 meters over the ground in winter.

Well, it wouldn't be problem to imagine algorithm like:

 

CURRENT_TEMP = MISSION_ASSIGNED_TEMP - (ALTITUDE * TEMP_COEFFICIENT)

 

 

But as AlphaSixOne said, outside temperature is modelled, so we are waiting for next patch.. ;)

While ED is at it they can add a clickable zone for the cockpit door and the throttle levers. That's gotta be crazy-straightforward.
