F-100/F-104 revival??

 

I believe long ago the F-100 and F-104 were being made for DCS, and for some reason both of these awesome planes were cancelled. Is there any chance of these beautiful planes coming back to DCS? A lot of us would love to see some early Cold war era jets from the US.

Yes, 2 great examples of aircraft, would be very nice. However, personally I'd like to see them with different variants.

 

That being said, I'd rather ED focus on getting the more behind the scenes things out of the way with DCS (such as the merging of 1.5 and 2.0), updating old and tired textures and 3D models for older stuff (also in progress). Then move on to adding more aircraft

reason being, the early model 104s didn't have radars (at least none with iff), so in the end, they'd just sit with the mig-15 and f-86 mostly be used offline or in scripted missions, not really able to go on dogfight servers because of friend or foe issues.... would need at least the 104S, that's the first italian variant (I think)...

 

the F-100, having its nose be entirely an air intake, has no space for a radar, so no versions of that plane had radars.

Pretty sure F-100 had a ranging radar similar to the Sabre and all F-104 had a radar

The 104's radar was weak I believe. I think its the perfect counter for the Mig-21.

they had non-processed radars, no IFF or direction finding, just raw blips on a scope...

and the f-100 did have a ranging radar, like the one in the f-86...

 

if you want to call those radars, you might be technically right, but knowing there's something there isn't the same as knowing what that something is.

Whilst I do love the F-104, and I've said this a fair few amount of times already, to be totally honest I'd rather ED get everything on the same level as everything else we have - we still have to make do with tonnes of stuff from LOMAC and FC2, plus the whole DCS 1.5 and 2.0 merging business, plus there are still some small teething problems that are still around that haven't (yet) been addressed.

 

Once all that has been done I'm more than happy to jump from the fix and update boat into the more aircraft etc boat. DCS is more quality not quantity.

 

That being said I do love the F-104 and hopefully some time in the future in makes it into DCS

 

hence why this is a "DCS Wishlist"

 

as in... things we wish there were, not necessarily things that will be...

for some reason being the underdog, using the worst equipment possible, but still good enough to compete, is the most fun for me... basically the only requirements are a radar with IFF, and enough speed to catch up to an F-15...

 

seems to me, the F-104 is the bare minimum...

The F-100D would make the perfect addon if it came since it was the one that carried 4 GAR-8 missiles like the F-86's and went supersonic. Plus it had mid air refuelling capabilities! ;)

I'm not sure if those graphs are from the HAVE DONUT test, because that is when they evaluated the Mig-21 and compared it to other planes they had like the F-4, F-104, F-8 etc.

depends on what mig-21 they tested.

 

If they only had a older variant maby the F-104 did better but a mig-21Bis would likely have slight advantages in most areas (performance wise atleast)

This poll was the top four aircraft for a few years, then they added more.

 

I think its mainly the vocal switch clickers that don't want super-modern aircraft...?

 

Personally, I think the Raptors systems could be done (there can't be that much to it, really...), but the flight model is a big mystery...That would take some serious work...SFMs are generally unacceptable for people here, so I feel that's the hang-up with that aircraft. I personally don't care, I just want more aircraft in the sim. :joystick:

As an F-14 pilot once asked about the DCS Hornet: Will ED put it in its proper position...Behind a tanker?
